  2. I agree with what has been said....heavier line will fix the problem. If you're looking for a baitcaster to throw 6# line, you won't find it at WalMart! Be prepared to shell out some serious $ for a JDM model of some sorts.
  3. Great video. He sure can captivate a room. I had the opportunity to have dinner with him the last two years at the ICRBE. Here's a pic from last Saturday. and one of my wife and I at the NFC booth.
  4. I have a 5 on the console and 7 on the bow (both gen 1). I do not have the LSS, I just ahve the two connected together with the ethernet to share waypoints. I believe you can share a LSS unit between 2 head units. If you want to use the LSS on your yak, you would need to move LSS unit and the LSS transducer to the yak. If you don't want to to that moving each time, you wold need 2 LSS units.
  5. Here's another little morsel that's gonna be getting a work-out when the bite is tough.
  6. Can't comment on the Loomis Mag-light DSR, but I have a Mag-Light North Fork Composites IM and it's lighter in power than I'd like for Great Lakes smallies. I did, however, boat some 4# and 5# fish with it this summer. It's a good river/resovoir DS rod though.
  7. I gave up on tubes years ago for goby type baits and worms. I have a friend that pours some pretty nice baits kinda similar to the Darter but not really........ and I haven't caught anything on them. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
  8. that's colored up like a wild fish. The fins look perfect too.
  9. The junk! Favorite reel on my second favorite rod (NFC DS6107-1) Favorite reel on my favorite rod (St. Croix 5S69MLXF)
  10. I think all of those blanks are a "special order" from Merrick. I've waited over 3 months for a special order from them before. Give Karen at Bingham Enterprises a call. Some of those blanks she stocks and if she doesn't, she'll have it drop-shipped from St. Croix. I assume you're a wholesale customer since you mentioned Merrick. St. Croix wholesale cost is the same no matter where you get it. Retail price is too, unless it's a discontinued model, then there is a deeper discount.
  11. I've built a few rods with the K-Frames and they work as advertised. The only problem left is tip-wrap, but I hear there's a matching tip for them on the horizon.
  12. Assuming they are Fuji's, Hardloy would be the gray ring and the brownish ring would be Aluminum Oxide. Both perfectly acceptable for use with braid.
  13. St. Croix: 3S69 MLXF 4S610 MLXF 3S70 MLF 3S76 MLXF Pick your favorite length, all will fit the bill.
  14. What DVT said. If they were a quality ceramic ringed guide, you won't have any problems.
  15. Gander has had many manufacturers of rods and reels over the years.....at one time, St. Croix made a line of rods got them. I had a couple spinning reels about 12 years ago that were BPS branded Shimanos. St. Croix reels were made by Daiwa about 8 years ago. I would assume that like Gander, BPS puts out for bid when they want a new line.
  16. Plan a trip to Erie. No need to have a big boat either. in the spring, you can fish it in a canoe, no more than 200 yds off shore and catch fish over 4# all day long.
  17. I made the mistake of building her one! It's been downhill since.
  18. Guess I got lucky with mine! She doesn't seem to care what I get. She even went as far as telling me to order the boat that I wanted instead of 'settling' for something that I wouldn't be happy with.
  19. I haven't seen a ceramic ringed guide that can't handle braid. the metal ringed guides...that's another story. Now to expand on the braid a little more. it's not actually the braided line that is the problem.....it's the sediment that gets deposited on/in the line as you use it. That is what can be a potential problem on certain components that aren't up to the task.
  20. Dark side is right. Pinners are the "bass boats" of the stream.....EVERYBODY hates us! That's why I bass fish out of a walleye boat! Haven't found a way to disguise my pin though!
  21. I didn't know you were a pinner too! BTW, those pink worms don't work
  22. I run the blue StaBil all season.
  23. the foam knob is the reason I made a cork one for my CI4.
  24. I completely disagree. 2 of the lakes I fish have up to 30' visibility at times. use a "visible" line and you won't get a bite. I've fished mono next to fluoro and didn't catch a thing on the mono rigged rod.
