New Shimano Crucial Cranking Rods
I haven't used the rod but I think that you'd be much happier with a medium heavy for traps, especially if fished around grass. you've got a little more backbone for ripping it out of the grass which is where I have most of my bites on lipless cranks. I use a 7' mh falcon bucoo micro and it's absolutely perfect for traps and it can be had for $99

Bearing Upgrades...
If you're already pleased with the performance of your reels, you're going to be amazed at what a proper clean/degrease and lubing will do. As a matter of fact I think you'll be so pleased that you'll wand to forgo the bearing upgrade all together. In general, factory bearings are of pretty good quality. sure, some manufacturers are better than others but like I said, a clean/lube job is going to make your reels feel like a whole new beast. as far as decreased maintenance, I think you'd have more maintenance with a higher tolerance bearing. reason being is that you'd need to use a lower viscosity oil requiring more frequent oiling. Ceramics are a whole different story. some like to run them shielded, some like to remove the seals, some like to run them dry, some like a light coat of oil. Within the ceramic bearings there are sub categories. there are full ceramics with ceramic balls and races and then there are hybrids with ceramic balls and stainless steel races. I personally dont think that the cost of ceramics are worth the few extra feet of casting difference. I use mostly curados and shimano factory bearings are great bearings as are the pure fishing bearings that your pq's use. Hope this helps.

Bow Light Universal Three Pin
amazing I saw this thread. I took the bass boat across the lake to an Island to go kill some woodies and teal and when i got back I kicked my bow light off with my wader boots. got a limit of the 2 best eating birds in the sky though

Filler Line?
I used to tie the two lines together with a double fisherman but found out that even the small knot can make a hump in my spool once i add the good line. taping works best and i use one little strip if scotch tape. was using electrical tape but it does add a significant amount of mass to the spool.

Citica?
learn to like it. this is another hole in your arsenal!!! talking about the flouro. and like gambler said. flouro in the lighter sizes and diameters are very manageable.
-
Citica?
The Citica doesn't offer any advantage over the Curado that I can see unless the $30 difference is a factor. It's a gift, why not splurge? nicely put dvt! I think that this holds true for the g series and maybe not so much on the e series

Swapping Star Drag Of Cu50E W/ Cu200 E
well if you're gonna do that, then why don't you do yourself a favor and swap that awesome 200e handle too. especially if you don't use the e5 that much. the 50 e handle on the e5 will give it the effect of even being a faster reel due to the shortened handle length. it won't actual be faster but the circumference on the actual swing of the handle will be less. I might even try this out my self.

Trolling Motor Size
what size trolling motor should I use for a 16/48 aluminum boat? It's an f&f with a yamaha 50. i have a friend that has a brand new motorguide 45 foot control that he would even swap with me for my quantum smoke 150. will this motor be strong enough?

2003 Yamaha 115 Issues
a lot of people are saying that you might not be getting enough fuel and they may be right. you could be getting too much fuel, carb motors can be finicky especially in the winter. correct me if I'm wrong but I think the carbs have accelerator pumps in them. they are diaphragm pumps that squirt raw fuel into the venturis when the throttle is pumped. I learned this the hard way when I switched from 2 stroke to 4 stroke motocross bikes. you couldnt even have your hand on the throttle when kicking them or they'd flood out. I'd try getting the bulb tight, pumping the throttle a few times to get some fuel in the carbs, and choking the motor until it bumps off. this may take a few times when cold. this is the exact sequence i have to use on my xr6 150. it's just the nature of the beast with carburetor outboards, and a crap load of fuel consumption.

New Quantum Exo Pt
i've never fished with one but i do own a smoke 150 and i'm a shimano posse member. i like the smoke ok. just handling the exo in the store, I did notice that it is more refined than the smoke. maybe it's just me but i feel like the quantum reels all kind of feel the same from the energy to the smoke and thats kind of gearish on the retrieve. kind of hard to explain. i did not notice this in the exo. I don't think there will be any issues with the structural integrity of this reel. I actually think it's probably stronger than the curado's that I absolutely love. I'm really trying to be unbiased here. the only problems I have with the smoke is that sometimes the clutch bar sticks. I've noticed that the pressure required to push it is a lot less than in other manufacturers and that might be the problem. the other is the gear material.

Shortening A Rod Handle
that's exactly what I used and it worked great. I shortened the handle on an old carrot stick that I use for throwing rogues. it was hard to snap the lure with that long handle. works perfectly now. i used the same rod butt. I was just extremely careful when digging the old carbon and glue out of it. it took a while. if i did it again I'd just order another rod butt from somewhere.

Sunline Sniper
I'm really liking this sniper in 20#. I've been a tatsu user since it came out but at 50.00 a spool, it's starting to get to me. sniper isn't quite as limp as tatsu but it's hardly noticeable at all and tatsu is definitely not 25$ limper than sniper. i also don't feel like it cinches down on knots like tatsu but it's pretty dang close all the way around. i guess the tatsu being a little softer on the outside explains the knot deal. i think it's neck and neck in castability with tatsu with a slight slight edge leaning towards tatsu. i haven't kvd'd it yet so this might be the trick. anyways, for 25$ i think sunline has a heck of a flourocarbon with sniper. anyone know anythink about shooter? I heard its much stronger but a lot stiffer.

Academy H2O Lipless Cranks - Anyone Using Them?
how did i never catch this thread. i have no problems with the hooks and i like the fact that they're not SO loud.

Favorite Lipless Crank
I have no problems fishing them as a matter of fact it makes me feel a little more financially responsible. I have a friend that fishes spro's exclusively and while we've never worn each other out while fishing, him with spro me with h2o, we were pretty neck and neck except for in the price department. it did take him a while to bite into the h20 series but now he's a firm believer. I let him sift through the 3 lipless boxes I have and he was amazed at the detail and variety that they offer.
-
Favorite Lipless Crank
I can't believe that nobody has mentioned the lipless crank series from academy. they have nearly the same profile as the aruku shad, great hooks, and detailed paint. not to mention the fact that they're about 3.50 a pop

Quick, Make Up Your Mind!

Suffix Seige
what's everybody's thoughts on this line. I bought some 12 and 14 pound and spooled it up on my squarebill rods and topwaters but haven't tested it yet. this stuff feels like silk. it's so smooth feeling it almost feels oily.

Updated: Pull The Trigger On An '02 Triton Tr-185 Or '05 Skeeter Sx180? (Updated W/pics & Info On Pg 2)
the ranger looks good too but I'm going to have to stick with the triton for 1: it's a newer boat, 2: i cant stand dual console boats. the other console takes up so much room and I almost always fish by myself. 3: hds 5. the ranger is a longer boat and may have a wider deck and a better trolling motor but I'm gonna have to stick with the triton.

Updated: Pull The Trigger On An '02 Triton Tr-185 Or '05 Skeeter Sx180? (Updated W/pics & Info On Pg 2)
that xr6 is a hell of a motor. I think they'll both burn a LOT of gas. I know for a fact the xr6 does but it's pretty fast too for a 150. with all that said, to answer your question, I'd probably go with the triton. 25 hp on the same hull might get you 3-5 mph difference. correct me if I'm wrong

Quantum Smoke Vs Lews Tournament Pro
I've got a smoke 150 7.3:1 and yes it casts very well with the heavy stuff. I got one for my trap rod and decided to try it out on my worm rod and was very disappointed. It simply will not handle light stuff. it also feels like it sits a little higher on the reel seat than my curados. If I were in your situation I'd have to go with the Lews reel.

Which Reel?
I see nothing wrong with being a capitalist. this is exactly how retail works. nothing wrong with making a buck and still giving a decent deal on the reel. I however, would've kept quiet about this because it is a great idea and will work!!!

87 Merc Xr2 150 Problems Again
I was having a similar problem with my xr6 and I don't know how different it is than an xr2. my problem was that somehow when putting the cowling back on the motor, I guess the latch on the cowling caught one of the wires to one of the spark control modules and disconnected it. needless to say I was running on 5 cylinders. just thought I'd throw that out there.
