In line buzzers
Not really these are spinners not buzzers. A buzzer would have a buzzbait prop or maybe even a propbait prop instead of the french or colorado blade. So instead of subsurface it would be a topwater lure. You do make a good point though about using a big inline (like the silver/white one) as a wakebait. I have some but I need to find them and photograph them.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Started off throwing a spinner I made with a single hook. The lure was spinning very badly so I put on a proven spinner from last outing. Soon I had a decent bite but missed it. Continued downriver, these would be new spots for me. Hit a nice looking bank, following a rabbit down its hole. Bam fat little largemouth. Then same spot farther cast bam smallmouth. Now I continued down the rabbit's path, but the trees would make it difficult to cast. Looked very fishy, with old gas cans and rotting sleeping bags. Then I came upon a great refuge of this river, where fourscore or more birds of every kind stood and loitered. Taken aback, I sauntered down to the river, watching my back in peripherals. This spot looked very fishy. Still throwing the spinner that got the bites moments ago. I was burning the lure to keep it out of the weeds. I thought I snagged the parlor carpet. That moment when you hang up, there is a second every time when you ***** if it is a fish. It was a fish. Kept firm pressure on, it moved towards midriver, then came up, not a headshake but just enough to spit hook. I dont know if the hook pulled, or what exactly. I have noticed a pattern with these river LM. They face the rod tip, emerge slightly, and free themselves. I think it has something to do with how shallow the river is. I would hit the hole again with other baits, but nada. Further downriver, towards the exspanse of the basin, I sat down and tied on a buzzbait. First cast smallmouth on splashdown. Good sign, but I would start walking back now. Came back to where I missed my first bite with the buzzer, and bam he hit! This was a good fish in shallow water and this one came unbottoned to! At this point the outing was more about the fish I lost than ones caught. Tried a spot on the way out near reeds, smash at the bank. There is a keeper for redemption. Pictured.

Is anyone making in line buzzbaits, or have any guidlines about how to make a good one?

Need help understanding lead blade dynamics on double willows
So it can be surmised that, at the angle, that lead blade gets less resistance, so a very small blade does not encounter enough resistance to spin fast?

Looks like you and the crew caught a lot that day. Do you have a picture of the teaser? The deckhands at Eastmans were great guys, but I questioned the captain's decisions. So we run all the way out to Jeffreys ledge, 28 miles, 2.5 hours. I thought great we can't get skunked there. So right away we are catching haddock, mostly on the mark keepers some short. Then he decides to move, I thought maybe he wants to find bigger fish. Nope, next spot was less, then we move again to what seems like the cusk hole. Moved afew more times, trying a drift sock to. I think why jump around so much if we already have a 5 hour run and we were bringing in keeper haddock at the first anchor.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
It was Eastmans dock in Seabrook. I was in the bow but I heard guys in the back were killing it more with mackerel bait, rather than the squid the charter supplied. Still though nothing huge was caught. The way it is managed and harvested it seems like a keeper haddock is exactly a keeper. Definetly a fun fishing experience, still thinking about it. At one point I snagged bottom and thought I had something huge. So I picked out an outfit that had a firetiger tube/teaser on it. The redfish and sculpin (that is sea robin?) Had taken the tube. I am not sure if other specie were shy of that big bright thing. No doubt though that the haddock feeds visualy. Look how big their eyes are. If I go again I would bring like some orange or green hook tubing and just put a little piece on plus bait.

Big-uns!
This pic is classic man, the August haze, the summer doldrums, the big lake dog days. The water looks like late summer. It is the feeding season for big smallmouth. They are feeding if you can find them. This time of year I feel they tend to wander more.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Hey, had a tough outing at the local river stretch. Lost one in the bushes, caught a dink, and lost my special prop bait. Gave a mouse wakebait a good effort but only had something small smack it. However, last weekend some people from work and I went out on a charter party boat. They went all the way out to Jeffrey's Ledge. We caught haddock, cusk, and pollock, I also pulled up a small redfish and sculpin. Weather was perfect. Great time had by all. Cusk fillets cooked up well.

Predawn Smallmouth
Topwater, I would go to a weightless tex. fluke/ sluggo or even a buzzbait if the floating weeds are there.

Personal Best Largemouth Bass - 6/1/2022
Yeah nice fish. I have never caught a double digit largemouth, but without a scale, there are no digits! So I think you can say yah, I caught a ten pounder here, but to claim with certainty that it is a double digit fish without a scale or at least a length/girth is too much.

Going west to the frontier
Considered; the Willamette is a tributary of interest, as is the Sandy River, I wonder if anyone has fished the Sandy River and its delta complex? It is very close to my lodging.

Going west to the frontier
I am going to a wedding near the beautiful frontier town of Portland, OR. I am staying in Troutdale, and I intend to fish the Columbia and nearby tributaries. I intend to use my 'river rat' tactics and techniques, that consist of bank fishing large stretches. I will be there the first week of August. Any clues that I should be aware of that time of year? Will water be low, allowing an easy rat? Is water usually clear or stained? From some research on this board, it seems like it can be a dynamite SM fishery. Anything else I could hook? Pike, salmon, or trout? Is that area tidal? thanks.

I am a big in-line user. The bait absolutely shines the brightest in moving water. If you use the bait in the lake or pond, you may have luck, but to me they are at their best a current and river bait. For example, last weekend I was bank fishing a reservoir. High water, and there is a spot which is an inflow, with moderate current. Started with a spinnerbait, fished all around it, nothing. Went to a subtle floating jerkbait, nothing. More time elapsed and I came back again with a 1/4 once gold blue fox vibrax. Bam, bass tight to the cover near the moving water. Missed some pickerel strikes. Bam, another bass. So that day was two bass, mid-day, high sun, high water and calm; could have easily been a skunk if I didn't find in the reservoir what is my go-to river pattern. I learned early in my career that the spinner is deadly in the river my friends and I fished. It would catch smallmouth (including the biggins), as well as current oriented largemouth, and of course the inline would be deadly for pike as well. A 6lb+ pike will take a little 1/4 oz spinner eagerly. Line twist shouldn't have to be a concern. So, I have a rig, very simple: the spinner, with about a foot of leader, and a swivel, connected to the mainline. The leader can be heavier than the mainline, to help with snags and brush if not Esox. I have found I get much better performance out of the swivel with this rather than just having a snap-swivel right on the bait.

Most disappointing lure
The Live Sammy was terrible for me.

How do you pluarlize fish species?
In Ichthyology, bass could refer to multiple bass of the same species. Basses would be used to describe multiple bass of different species. For example a school of white bass, you would say, 'look at all the bass'. However a shoal of white bass, largemouth, and smallmouth; it would be correct to say, 'there are many basses here.'

Nice lure, would be a good night fishing spinnerbait to.

What is this fish?
White perch. It has been mentioned that they eat well, but big specimens also fight pound for pound better than bass. The lakes in NH hide some big white perch, usually in direct competition with adult smallmouth. The river I fish now has many white perch about the size of the ones posted, but I am yet to catch a specimen as big as those in the deep rocky lakes.

Had some luck over the weekend. My April has been much improved over last year, maybe it is never too early to get the spinner bite going.
