  1. Good looking out on the Dick's sale. Thanks.
  2. i do that frequently. nothing wrong with tring to master your skillsat a particular lure
  3. I would say between 6 1/2 and 8 pounds. Luck you.
  4. Congrats, you got my pb beat by 2 1/2 pounds.
  5. Save your self the time, and energy you will spend messing up a perfectly good running bait and by one that is designed to run at 20 feet or what ever depth you want it to run. I speak from experience. I have watched shows and read books about coustomizing baits and have been disappointed at the fact that I ruined a perfectly good bait. Just one mans opinion.
  6. I started my youngest fishing when he was 4. Nothing is truely weedless unless you texas rig a worm then skin hook the worm slightly. That rig is truely weedless. Most lures with weed guards are not really weedless anyway. Here are my suggestions: Mann's baby minus 1 in a shad color. Its a crankbait that is great for kids b/c you constantly retrieve it and it only dives to about 6" under the surface. When not retrieved it will float on the top. 3/8 oz. White or white with chart. skirt spinnerbait with a colorado blade(s). Again its not weedless but a constant retrieve so it keeps the kids interested. You can also use this all year around, it will produce bass and the wire on the bait usually deflects the bait from getting really snagged hard on. Chatterbaits share the spinnerbait theory of mine. A topwater wakebait. It will float and not dive at all, however it has a single belly treble hook so throwing it around pads is out. Spro makes one called theBBZ Shad I think. Last but not least, snap proof lures makes frogs that r great on, in, or around pads and other vegitation that is visible. It floats and in my experience, its as close as "weedless" gets. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  7. Take a breath for 1 second. I think you are way over thinking here. Line size and reel ratio. Reel ratio tells you how much line will be brought in per 1 revolution of the reels handle. That's going to tell you how fast or slow to reel. Line is important as well. You don't want to put say 50 lb test on a crankbait. The largeset I go is 20 lb braid which is equivelant to 8-10 lb test non braided line. Crankbaits will tell u on the package how deep they will dive. If you have a crankbait that will dive to 6', you can crank you butt off and make smoke come out of your reel, its still not diving to 16'. If you take that same 6' diving crank and retrieve it at a snails pace it will still dive to 6', it will just take longer to reach its diving depth.
  8. You have 2 choices. 1 you tie directly which I prefer or 2 you take the split ring off then tie a loop knot. I would no tie direct if you take the split ring off. It changes the action of the bait. I know a lot of people who don't like extra hardware on their lures and take off the split rings, and they all tie loop knots to simulate the split ring.
  9. You can buy a lure for $2 or u can buy 1 for $20. Either one will catch or not catch fish on any given day. I have expensive lures that have never produced anything and cheap lures that clean house. If you like it and are on a budget give it a shot. Remember its not a fashion show. I have fished tournaments with people who are using garbage rods and reels, not to mention their line and have out fished me and my Pflueger reels and St. Croix rods. I say get em and try em.
  10. I agree with donbeatya.
  11. Plastic swimbaits this year. It seems like every year it a different one. Last year it was jigs. Every year I like to try to "master" a lure and one always ends up collecting dust.

If your talking about the lures that flash a red LED when your fishing them, the yes, they are ish. I got scammed by them already. I saw the infomercial a few years ago and bought them. Never caught anything on them. Now if you are talking about the Lazer Lure that Mike Iconnelli endorses than I can comment b/c I am not willing to pay like 28 bucks to try it out.
  13. Yes! Fish @ night. I always use black lures. Black spinnerbaits, black topwaters, black and blue chatterbaits, dark colored baby minus 1's, even a black worm from timt to time. I my opinion I would save the whites for bright sunny days. Many articals I have read use this as a rule of thumb "bright days light color lures, overcast and night time, dark color lures. Fishing at night can be extreamly productive. Good luck.
  14. This site is an excellant place to find answers. Some manufactures will have instructions on their websites, I would start there first. Wlecome back to the fishing world.
  15. I actually have heard of this. I saw it on a fishing show and also read about it in a mag. Crazy stuff, but cool.
  16. The truth hurts sometimes. If its your boat, its your pedal. Maybe you can convience him that it would be a good idea if he learns how to fish from the back. If you fish a Fed. Nation tourney and u r a non-boater, you will be fishing with a boater that is chosen for you. You will in fact be in the back of the boat. If he's you best friend I think he will understand if you correct him when he mispositions the boat. I am always learning new things when I am fishing, maybe you can use that angle. Good luck.
  17. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. It really sucks!!
  18. 2-3 times a week if I am lucky. Friday after work, Saturday and Sunday in between taking the kids to baseball. On a good weekend with little or no baseball games maybe15 hours a week. Not as much as I would like but probably a lot more than others. School and the work asscoiated with it needs to come first. Keep at it when u have time and sooner than later more time will become available to u to fish.
  19. I wanted to do the same thing previously. I did a lot of research and from what I gathered it is hard to impossible, especially in a 30 gallon tank. Look into if it is permitted by your local law before you put too much time inti it. Good luck.
  20. Pause, twitch, and directional changes are all great ways to induce a strike. I personally don't pause for too long, maybe a 2 count. I don't want them to get too good of look at my bait.
  21. Well if u want to learn, u have found the best website to help you. Read articals, ask questions, and be patient. There's a lot to learn but once u start putting your learned knowledge to use you will be rewarded. Read some mags. like BASS. Good luck.
  22. If you go to the ESPN website you can sign up to receive their BASS Masters mag. Along with the subscription, which is very affordable, you will become a member of BASS and will also receive issues of BASS Times, which is kinda like a newspaper. Go to Barnes and Noble to where they have mags, they have lots that you won't have to wait for in the mail.
  23. 4" pumpkin seed berkley powerbait power worm with a 1/16 oz. split shot weight on an owner EWG 1/0 hook. You can either fish it like you would normally fish a worm or you can use a slow steady retrieve working it like a swim bait giving it an occasional twitch. The tail make a vibration that makes the fish hit.
  24. If I can land them after the strike and put them in the well, I love them all!!!!
  25. I have an upcoming tourney on the Delaware River. We will be launching out of Big Timber Creek, I belive to be in Gloucester City, NJ. I have never fished the Delaware and will be a non-boater so I have two disadvantages. Can anyone give me some tips of what the I will need to do to pull in some weight. I will not be able to pre-fish. Any advise?
