Moved Back To Middle Tn (Need Some Help)
www.bassfishinghomepage.com for reports (just click AL or TN) The good thing about Guntersville is you can catch them on your style.....from offshore cranking/jigging to frogging and flipping grass. One of the best places to get a bite is at a causeway like Brown's creek causeway. Also, working walking/popping top water over submerged grass in Seibold is working right now and senko type baits on grass edges as well. Although I have not fished Tim's Ford, I have heard it takes roughly 15-17 pounds to win tournaments and since it is deep lake, is more of a pleasure boater lake; while Guntersville usually takes 27-32 to win. Not sure how far you are driving to get to Tim's Ford, but IMO is worth the extra time to get to a lake where you have a better chance of catching an 6# or better fish. Thanks for your service and good luck.

Petition for Lake Guntersville
Anybody have any thoughts on the petition for lowering creel and possession limits on Lake Guntersville? I am not sure how they are going to enforce tournament mortality rates, but I am sure they will think of something. I am for it.

First Tournament and Outing on "The Big G"
It was pretty packed on Saturday, Sunday was a bit less crowded due to the wind and rain. My friend and I are also going to be fishing the Big Bass tournament out of J.P. Coleman State Park (Pickwick Lake) this weekend, I believe the last total I heard was only 55 boats, but more to register on Saturday morning.
-
First Tournament and Outing on "The Big G"
1,101 participants, I believe there were approximately 500 boats because you could have up to 3 people in one boat.

First Tournament and Outing on "The Big G"
Fished the big bass splash this weekend (both days). Yesterday (3/20) was a beautiful day to fish, but we did not do any good; only boating 3 fish, with our biggest a 4.8, which was caught at 11 a.m. and everytime we cut the radio on, it never was in the top eight places (or even 10 places on the odd hours). Today (3/21) was a different story, the weather was rain and wind, but the fishing was on fire. My friend whose boat we were fishing out of had the best day he ever had on Guntersville. He was able to weigh in and get his entry fee back, expenses for the boat/truck, and some extra cash (so the tourney only cost me my entry fee). Sealy Outdoors cut the checks at 2:45 p.m. and had the drawings for a boat, day on the lake with Gerald Swindle, and a stealth ATV. It was raining so hard, that my friend after getting his checks turns to me and says "lets go." He turns to walk to the truck, turns around and says "with the day I had fishing today, I bet we win something" and sure enough we won a door prize. So my first time on Guntersville, I get two days of fishing and a good story to go along with a tournament that had 1,101 participants.

Touranament Winnings and Taxes
I know that if you fish a cash tournament you are suppose to report that on your taxes (most people don't), but what about winnings from organizations such as FLW or BASS. Last year I won about $500 bucks on BFL, but never got a 1099-misc from FLW....did anyone get one? I know everyone is thinking, "man this guy loves to pay taxes," but its more like "man this guy really doesn't want to get auditted!" Thanks in advance for any responses.

Bass in Southeast La
The spillway has some good fish, but it is a good place to get lost and it can be dangerous. True story: Fishing a BFL as a co-angler out of Berwick, LA in 2006 and as my boater rounded a bend, a guy in a reno skiff had slowed for whatever reason. My boater did not slow and threw a fair size wake on him. The guy FOLLOWED us to our fishing spot, stopped 10 feet away from us and began to trim his boat up and down while going forward and reverse. My cousin crawfishes the spillway for a living and has told me other crazy stories that will have to be left for another day. Back to where the good spots are: Lake C is really good, Delacroix/caneravon canal, Manchac (between Hammond and Laplace) usually has alot of open tournaments at the Public Launch in Manchac, Tchefuncte River has some fish in it (Rice Fields), False River (freshwater oxbow), Bayou Lacombe, and the East Pearl River (which also can be dangerous). Good baits to use are soft plastics in red shad, grape shad, green pumpkin. Also caught alot of fish on baby 1 minus cranks, and single colorado blade spinnerbaits that were used for saltwater fishing (like a cocahoe minnow set-up with sparkle beatles), black and blue jigs with green pumpkin trailer. I am giving up the info because I just moved from Hammond, LA to Huntsville, AL. google "Louisiana Sportsman" and see what they have to say about it.

Do's and Don'ts of Co-Angling
1. Give the boater some cash the night of the tournament. You may have to give him more depending on the run you make, but giving the boater cash shows that you know that it is your responsibility to foot some of the gas bill. At the BFL regional, both my boaters declined the cash, I gave it to them anyway b/c word will get around quick that you short a boater. 2. Ask the boater how many rods and gear. They will tell you. 3. Bring your own life vest and face mask. 4. Try not to talk too much. Some of my tournaments I did not pre-fish, and was able to stay at a relatives house, so my expense for the tournament was about $175. However, the boater has gas for truck and boat, hotel, higher entry fee. Even though you may have limited investment, the boater more than likely has some cash tied up, so let him concentrate. 5. Be upfront and let the boater know you will probably get hung up (hopefully not), and how to get un hung without disrupting the grove. Also, let him know that you will not purposely throw in front of him.

FLW IS BETTER THAN BASS!!!
I believe you are comparing apples to oranges. First of all, take a look at the Kentucky Lake standings this past go around when the BASS pros hit it (6/3-6/6) and then soon after the FLW guys hit it (6/11-6/14). That is pretty close to apples to apples. The BASS pros put up more weight. What needs to be compared is the overall quality of how the tournaments are ran, television coverage, sponsor promotion, and payout vs. entry fees....just to name a few. At the end of the day D. Walker, G. Hackney, M. Iachnelli, L. Nixon, T. Omari, C. Baumgardner fished the 05 classic. So that just shows you that pros jump between the series, and do not believe that one is better than the other. P.S. That is just my opinion. However, if I had to chose it would be FLW and not BASS. I only say this because I feel that BASS has steered away from its roots, mainly due to being purchased by ESPN.

Is the Forrest Wood Cup on Three Rivers a good idea?
There is an article on flw about how the fishing conditions are going to affect weights. D. Lefebre is a local (who also should be in the top 5) and says that the year when the classic was held was an extremely poor year.

TOURNAMENT ANGLERS: How do you practice for a tournament?
Non-Boater: Call up the guy that you guarranteed with and tell him that you will pay for the gas in the boat and the truck and make plans to pre-fish sometime before the tournament. $$$$ is a great motivator. This also helps because you practice very similliar to how the tournament will play out i.e. limited tackle, fishing from the back, and if going out the weekend before, very similliar weather and water patterns.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA!!!!!!!
I am holding it down on the Northshore (Tangipahoa Parish). This site is not as good as Louisiana Sportsman, but it will do. I would not be surprised if someone mentions all those fish you killed on your profile. I on the other hand have caught and released plenty of fish in da grease hehe. But some of these yanks actually do not understand....fishing=dinner. Just a heads up.

FLW--will it become stronger than BASS?
What a great thread. Everybody likes a pros and cons so maybe that is an easy way to break it down. BASS: Pros 1) name brand recognition 2) Big hitters/Big Salesman (Van Dam, Clunn, Skeet, Horton, etc) 3.) More events and more prestigous Cons: 1.) no co-anglers (what does that say about the future?) 2.) Part of ESPN (just another minor thing they do to all the "big time sports" 3.) no key boat sponsor, if skeeter pays, then they push skeeter...if triton pays then they push triton. FLW Pros: 1.) Make it easy to "climb the ladder" (bfl to stren to series to tour)2.) Gotta admit that website navigation is better (target market of tournament anglers are usually your non computer folk) 3.) Ranger Boats (IMO, a great product) 4.) Most Americans support our troops (whether or not they support the war) and FLW does an awesome job of making sure everyone know they do (National Guard Sponsorships) Cons 1.) FLW gets the leftovers of BASS 2.) Sometimes they try too hard (watching the weigh in via internet is kinda acquired) 3.) Tournament strategy could be tweaked (BASS will fish Falcon or Amistad which brings in big bags, bigger crowds, more potential sales) What it all boils down to is return on investment for these companies. If these companies conduct market research that shows that either tour brings them more sales, they will move sponsorships.

INSURANCE POLICY BASS AND ISH
Rules are Rules, I agree. Here is a scenario......... A college athlete is fouled on the last shot of the game and sinks the first free throw (assume he is allowed 2 free throws). Now the game can be won or lost on the next shot. Before the ref bounces the ball to the player, he notices that on the last play of the game the player must have been fouled b/c a small amount of blood is visible from the players arm. Time is called and the player is taken to the sideline and gets a bandaid because the rules says that a player can not be bleeding on the court. Now as a fan, coach, player....would you not be a tad bit upset that because of a "rule" that the emotion of that player, momentum of the game, and mind set of that player towards that next free throw was somehow altered?? Could you say his mojo (if you will) was somehow corrupted?? So Ish is set to blast off, he is thinking I may hit the first 100 yards of a spot I found 2 miles up river and then 30 minutes I have not boated a fish, then I will hit spot 2. I need to keep my eye on water temp, wind direction, and sunlight (since it is partly cloudy). If they seem to be active on the sub-surface I will throw the jerkbait, otherwise I will stay with the swimbait. Be aware of cover so I can flip the craw. Then the "ref" comes up and ask him "ohh by the way, I need to see your insurance card because I forgot to do it last night and before you launched your boat @ 5:00 a.m." Hey don't shoot the messanger, its the rules. Again, 100% agree that the rules are the rules. However, you can not say that the tournament director (much like a ref) did not in some way alter Ish's mindset.

INSURANCE POLICY BASS AND ISH
Problem with this situation: Yes............he should have not got on pad and cursed out the Tourney Director. However, let's break down the situation.... 1.) The man got on pad, therefore he was in his boat and launch time was approaching.....how early do we get to the ramp? I fished a BFL this weekend, launch @ 6:30, I was there @ 5:00 a.m. Why was the card not asked for then? If you break these tournaments down (FLW, BASS, or your local circuit) it is a business. I think BASS is getting away from one major factor in generating revenue: customer service. All Ish is going to know is that he has give $$$ to a business that has treated him like garbage (in his perception and perception is reality), I would not be suprised if you see Ish on more FLW circuits. Just me .02 cents.

300$ to BassPro
You want opinions, well here ya go.............until you hit the water hard, put the gift card in the dresser. Check w/ BPS and make sure that the card does not lose value over time and find out when it expires. I think people get any gift card and want immediate gratification and end up wasting it.

BFL Newbie
If it were me, I would call FLW outdoors and ask for the regulations on boats, I do believe there is atleast insurance requirements, also your fuel tank has to be non removeable, I would check with them (to get the info from the horses mouth).

before n after katrina
There is only about 5 people on this site that understand bass fishing in S. Louisiana. I fished the LBTA winter circuit in 2006 out of the EBI canal, and 18 lb stringers in December was winning weight. I live in Hammond, and bass reports on the Northshore, tickfaw, petite amite, natalbany, tchfuncte are also coming back better than ever. I have also heard good reports coming from Venice on the bass, to bad that is about a 2.5 hr drive. Getting back to Delacroix, where are the good reports oak river, grand lake, lake leary? Appreciate any info

caernavaron
yep fished the LBTA winter series in 06-07, and last time I fished was early february 2008. That syphon puts a ton of freshwater in the marsh and some heavy bags have come from there (18 #). Some people actually run from pearl river to there (2 hrs one way) if the fishing is hot. Better have some braided line and bring a gps and map, easy to get lost. You will not find alot of people on this site that know about LA bass fishing try a website for Louisiana Sportsman, you will get better info. Where you from? Northshore here, send me a PM if you wanna chat.

Mississippi - Lake Okhissa
Its the real deal! Threw back 2 in the slot and 3 that were less than 13". We were the 2nd boat there and the 2nd to last to take out. The guys we were first there and last to leave caught 50, biggest 2 were 6.5# and 5# (told us they were caught on black and blue jigs in 20 to 40 feet of water). This report comes from tuesday 2/5/08. God bless and vote for Mike Huckabee

Mississippi - Lake Okhissa
Not alot of info on this website about southern lakes because it is filed with nothing but yankees who love TALKING about bass fishing. If you go on a sportsmans website for Louisiana (where the real anglers and hunters are) you will find boo-koo reports on okhissa because these old boys do not mind driving too Bude to fish...........ohhh and btw, they ENCOURAGE you to take your daily limit.
