  1. I'd like to have a "Tall Boy" of miller lite and a seat in the back of the boat you guys fish from... Just to listen and observe. I bet you two are a lot of laughs.
  2. Interesting.... Must be better in TN. I think the pay is weak in Tx. And when you factor in having to duck bullets here and there I think it's downright low!
  3. I sent him a PM earlier saying exactly that. I do have a couple reels worth of cash set aside for when "my" next reel is produced. ...lol
  4. As much as I love having all the tackle and like to have options on any given day. I basically keep 3 rods out 365 (t-rig, c-rig, fluke) and a forth rod that alternates. All my plastics that actually get used are sitting in the windshield... usually 3-4 bags. The rest of the X00 lbs of tackle in the boat only provide ballast and noise deadening qualities. ;D
  5. At least the 50MG was light! I guess I reacted a little too strongly- I just had really high hopes. I'm sure it's just me but I don't see the need for another $200+ that weight 7 1/2+ oz and holds about the same line as the others in that class. Seems like the Curado E fills everything in that space and does so for less $. No? I still have high hopes and will wait to see what comes out later in 09'. I should have a few nice new rods to put them on by then. :
  6. If you don't love it, you will profit on the sale.
  7. RW, I agree with that and I do have both. I don't know about that one... I would buy another Curado E over the new chronarch. Bantam, Thanks for the info.... I know that you have to use some of the same stuff but my point is that the "original" stuff is what is so well received. Look at the Curado E's and Core... they are new and at least were more original... and they are the talk. And I bet they sell way better than the "dumb down models" - pardon the expression.
  8. Already have 5 of the 50MG's... don't really need a 6th. I was just hoping that there would be something original coming out... you know like they used to do, when all the "new" reels were new? Seems like lately they make a new reel then a number of models with a bearing or 2 less and call it new. They don't need a "citica" for every decent reel. It's just disappointing.
  9. Maybe I should have said "Thank you Shimano" for protecting my discretionary income, since there is absolutely ZERO chance of me buying that. I should have no trouble buying rod blanks this year!
  10. I'm calling BS on Shimano now. Another reel with no "regular speed" option.... Another reel built on an existing body type.... Another reel with mostly existing parts... This is the Core's "citica" I hope it's as short lived and the CU and CI D's were. Hey Shimano- "D" stands for doomed! Build something as good as you took from the lineup.... > or your faithful following will be looking at Daiwa's 09' offerings. :-/
  11. Don't you remember Jay Novacek?
  12. Thanks. Now I remember that they fished a lot deeper than the rof #'s. I knew there was something that wasn't obvious. Have you seen the new phantom patterns in real life? I like the phantom rainbow in the pics but sometimes the pics aren't true on my screen.
  13. At that point it's all preference. You'll just have to try your favorite techniques on each rod... you'll know very quickly which you prefer. I prefer fast over x-fast for worming, but many prefer x-fast. I believe that is going to be the case for most things... a split response.
  14. Muddy, I try to take you seriously... but really, how can you take the word of a 30+ year old second grader? ;D ;D
  15. I know that this has been covered but I couldn't find it in the searches I tried. I'm planning to get a couple but don't have the room to carry more than about 2 of each size. What depths are you guys fishing the different rof's on both the 8" and 6" hudds? Thanks

Worms. T-rig the worms and fish it on/in the coontail. T-rigs are pretty weedless so don't be afraid to use them. Also flukes or senko type baits can be worked just at or just above the weeds.
  17. What depths is that sinker running? Will it stay put on a slow retrieve?
  18. What's the difference between the floater and billed floaters... other than the bill. I'm sure there is a good reason for both, I just don't know what it is. Thanks
  19. What a pleasant surprise! Don't be a stranger... we still need you in these parts.
  20. Alternatively, you could place it in a small box, wrapped in a cloth or foam, ship to ReelMech for service. Enjoy Christmas with your family and then when it's returned, it's like a new reel... and another Christmas present.
  21. As stated, Batson makes some nice blanks and offers some great values. You have a number of options to choose from. They make a mag bass IMB846 (RX7), MB846 (RX6), swimbait ISWB904 (RX7), several musky and saltwater (RX4, RX7, RX8) blanks that all fit your weight ranges. Excluding all the fly rods, I have built on the RX6 & RX7 mag bass and RX7 musky blanks, and am currently building the RX7 swimbait blank- ISWX945 and the XMB844 RX8. All are good blanks that have a purpose and a niche... Part of your decision comes down to length and which application you plan to do more of. No. It won't add any structural integrity to the blank. When finished with Threadmaster or Flexcoat, size "A" thread will hold up to more stress than the musky and swimbait blanks will take. (even with single footed fly guides) In other words, the blank will break before the guide is ripped off. (trust me) Only when you get to saltwater applications is A thread insufficient.
  22. It took some getting used to in the beginning. I also have fat fingers- I actually hold the small guides on each side between the finger and finger nail... and rest on a little wood block for filing. It sounds odd when reading, but it takes less than 30 seconds per guide to shape them.

Glenn, Just talked to my folks (in Dallas) and it's not as balmy as it seems, the wind chill is in the upper 60's. :
  24. I'm still much smoother and faster with my my needle files and hand holding but for power tools, I think that tool makes great sense. (especially from a safety standpoint)
  25. I've been using the LL buzzbaits exclusively for over 20 years. (except a 2 day trial of the cavitrons) In fairness to Cavitron, my results were good but they do not offer a 1/2 oz bait...
