  1. I would guess it pays for the salary of the "teacher" and the apparel. ? I also think it would eliminate some of the people who wouldn't take it seriously.
  2. I loved the pic of the dink with a rattle trap "diving for the lure" ;D Did you notice that he quoted a couple local sources?
  3. I haven't used sunline but Bud and a few others talk very highly of it. Haven't heard a single negative review, only price.

any BPS, cabela's and most hunting stores. It's used for a number of things... from predator hunting to rodent repellent. google... first link besides the story above: http://www.predatorpee.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=FU
  5. Wow, do they actually carryall that in stock? If so you are in HUGE trouble!! Kind of glad I don't have a local dealer or I would no longer have disposable funds! ...lol
  6. It has seemed unusually bright the past couple nights... good to know that even though I'm on team depends, I'm not on the downward slide just yet. ;D
  7. Bahh.....Reel Mech probably just needed some scotch on the rocks. Natural, Just fyi, ReelMech and ddigit are 2 different people...
  8. which dealer is it? (it's always nice to know of suppliers with a store front)
  9. For starters you'll have fewer things to get repo'd. ...lol the first step is a small emergency fund... but it, like everything Dave teaches is adjusted for risk. if you are in a high risk position, the greater the emergency fund needs to be. The fact that you have debt puts you at risk so there is always a little risk until you get out of debt. Daves plan gets you out from under the risk in short order. tyrius, I understand the numbers all too well. The one thing I mentioned that you didn't do was to mathematically adjust for risk and taxes... by the time you take the taxes out and adjust for risk, the investment rarely is ahead of the "lower" rate debt. Not considering risk is naive, not to mention an incomplete formula... picking up a point or 2 of interest when you risk losing everything isn't worth a few $ more on the upside. I think there are about $700 billion worth of people who are wishing they had adjusted for risk about now. That's as far as I am going to argue this today. Dave will tell you... There is a reason that he's been a millionaire twice... the first time he ignored the debt.
  10. You haven't adjusted for risk. When something happens or you have to dip into those investments for cover a layoff or something, you'll get hit with about a 40% tax and penalty.... in the end, the debt free guy usually comes out ahead. Plus, the extra money freed up each month from payments, can be added to any investments- which will usually make up for any short term missed investment while getting out of debt. If you get laid off, how easy are the mortgage, auto, boat, credit cards, etc. payments to make? If I get laid off, I can work at home depot and be just fine... Besides, trucks and boats with no payments do ride a little nicer. ...lol
  11. all those charts are a part of the course. You can find him on the radio or listen online to get a feel for who he is. There are a number of members here who have followed Dave's plan and all have only good to say last time he was discussed in the forum.
  12. I'd use my day time spinnerbait rod. : Using braid with a spinnerbait, you should even feel everything with a wet noodle of a rod.
  13. While you asked for different advice... I wouldn't waste this opportunity to get some IMX or GLX worm or Jig rods. ANY COMPANY makes a good cranking stick and several make good swimbait rods. Having said that, congratulations on picking up a sponsor!
  14. I forgot to mention this- buy a copy of Dan Miller's book, "48 Days to the work you love"
  15. Pay off the debt first. For what it's worth, I would look up "financial peace university" and find a class near you. It's the Dave Ramsey course that will teach you not only which decisions to make, but also the why's behind those decisions. if you follow his guidelines, you will be financially fit and recession proof. It's easily the best $100 I have ever spent.
  16. I only want to add that most rattle trap hooks suck. If you buy the regular traps with the chrome hooks, take a minute and replace them. There are lots of good ones, I happen to like Owner best.
  17. Someone said it was in the local library so they didn't even have to buy it. Here is the inex to the articles you were looking for: http://www.rod-crafting.com/resource/article/custom-rod-shop.html
  18. I've built with the UD style pvd tich w/ zirconium, just not the ALPS. Good guides, but a little pricey I though. The ALPS are stout, and way heavier duty than I would ever need. My advice to any beginner is to use either Alconites or Hardloys by fuji. They are very good guides, can be found anywhere and are pretty inexpensive. The Batson rx7 blanks are pretty nice, and for the money they are hard to beat. The rx 6 are also a killer value. I currently have a couple MB 843 and 844 Batson blanks... they are a little heavier than a Loomis rating with the same number. (just fyi) I've never dealt with swampland, but have heard very good things about them.
  19. You're getting it! Don't worry about the finite details, they will smooth out with time and practice! The rods look good and will fish great! (They don't usually fish better even when they look perfect! ...lol ) I still owe you a trip out to use all the new rods! We'll have to make a few trips to Stillhouse this spring! I did get into some smallies on Belton, on Sunday. What's funny is as soon as I saw the dust, I thought about the camera lens and flash... and threadmaster is like a magnifying glass on thread! When working on really little stuff, I actually use the macro lens and flash to take pics of 'it' and look at it on the computer screen. You would be amazed to see what a pinhead sized imperfection looks like at 5.1 megapixels on a 17" monitor!! I like the 6 minute gel by Locktite... never had it set in under 3 minutes though. I have used it enough that I know when I'm mixing, how much time I'll have. I'll use the temperature differential in the house vs. garage to buy time if I need it. I've gotten between 3 and 10 minutes of good working time out of it, depending on the air and epoxy temps when I mix it. Knowing when you don't have a lot of time is valuable information!
  20. No problems at my house... a few funny looks and head shakes though. ...lol We get "fun money" every month to be spent or saved as each sees fit. I guess it's the adult version of allowance. I was thrifty for a couple years early on and now have a healthy bank account to support any tackle and trips I want.
  21. A quick search found citica E's as low as $99 with free shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/Shimano-Citica-200E-Casting-Reel-CI200E-2009-NEW_W0QQitemZ280289690157QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item280289690157&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 http://cgi.ebay.com/Shimano-Citica-200E-New-for-2009_W0QQitemZ370125958064QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item370125958064&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 http://cgi.ebay.com/Shimano-Citica-200E-Baitcasting-Reel-200-E-09-New_W0QQitemZ290276449270QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Shimano-Citica-CI200E-3-Ball-Bearing_W0QQitemZ300276847390QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116
  22. It's about the oldest trick in the book. I'd avoid that shop if they resort to keeping a reel that is either broken or has been altered as a sales tool. Any person that has ever been behind the counter would know that there was something wrong with it. And then to intentionally pull it out.... well I think it's dishonest. I would however give them the benefit of the doubt this time and tell them it's obviously screwed up... if they continue to use it in that way, and don't send it back, they are not the kind of people I'd support.
  23. I really don't have a problem with braid... it's just not for me. (and I was kidding for tin's response above) I have recommended it to many people that have asked for help with certain situations. I see it's value for a number of people, situations and applications... I just didn't like it. When guys (and there have been many) make the braid is mandatory kind of comments, it bugs me. Mainly because you don't know how I fish or that I used to use braid. You assume that I don't have a frog rod or even know the basics of frogging or the mechanics of braided line in vegetation. Those assumptions are all incorrect. I do fish frogs pretty regularly, with good success. By the way, I actually still carry a spare spool of braid with me in the boat... just in case I ever get in a position to need it... I just never needed it. Again, for clarification, I have no problems with braid, or ANY of you guys... carry on.
