  1. brittleness is not the issue with the modern rods and materials... wall thickness of some of the higher modulous rods can be a concern, though, since it takes a lesser impact or nick in the blank to cause a catastrophic event. These rods are not built to kill snakes with - like the older thicker walled rods were capable of. As stated, the warranties are so good now that you shouldn't worry as you will be covered for a very small fee. *edited for spelling
  2. That does suck big time but, unless it was the first cast, into open water, with a fresh perfect knot and a toothless fish, how can you discount all the previous positive experience over a single mishap? Any number of things could have nicked it or caused the failure. Even a hook eye or split ring can bust a knot if you hit an edge. I could be totally wrong but what popped into my mind as i read your post was "big fish at the boat, last second surge and drag set a hair too tight".
  3. Really? Since when does manufacturing and quality report up through marketing and customer service? Answer NEVER, unless it's a very, very small operation with one guy running all the functions. Given the most common definitions of customer service, I'd say they did exactly what they should have. They didn't even ask for a return... just learned of a problem and offered to send replacements out, no questions asked. There is no better response. Unless they have a crystal ball, they can only help those who take a minute to contact them.
  4. Congrats!! Having just had our first, I can tell you it's a wild ride! Pregnancy, delivery and the first couple months with a newborn aren't all wine and roses... but I wouldn't trade it for the world!! Baby her for the duration, she'll need extra emotional support. Our prayers for a safe and healthy pregnancy, followed by a safe delivery!!!!
  5. Smooth and tight... looking good! Did you use forhan locking wraps to finish it off? Can't really tell in the pic, but it looks like you didn't. If not, you should take 5-10 minutes and learn it... you'll be glad you did! I use it on every single foot guide I wrap, period. The tutorial is here: http://www.rodbuilding.org/library/forhan.html Can't wait to see the first joint build from you two!
  6. I bought 3 earlier this month... first new rattle traps (or lipless baits of any kind) that I have purchased in a couple years... 2 of the 3 had the tacky paint. Obviously it is something wrong with the process as any paint will dry to the touch in the weeks or months since it's manufacture. Maybe we got baits from the very beginning or very end of a run where paint or thinner was running low/out causing the cure issue. ? I haven't looked to see if the paint has cured since I bought them...
  7. Huddleston 6" baits, 3:16's (several choices under $20) or matt's baby bass or bluegill
  8. Dang, what a domino effect! Have you considered changing your screen name to Murphy? ;D
  9. Nice and light, easy to cast.
  10. You're bad, Dom... funny, but bad!
  11. So the difference now is that we all get to wonder where certain people are. (and post about it) I liked the "ex-member" thing and while were are on it, I also miss the "banned" titles... both were clear, both were honest and neither left room for speculation. Yes, I know 2 or 3 people out of 18,000 accidentally deleted themselves, but it was easy enough to come back when they decided to call the deletion accidental. ;D (no offense intended) the software glitches are a different story.
  12. Mattm, he's from west va. where you have to cook meat well done- roadkill has a lot of bacteria on it. :
  13. Wayne, I think everyone has killed a battery or two at some point! There are literally hundreds of chargers that switch to maintenance mode when charged. I think all the onboard chargers are that way now. I leave my boat plugged in 24/7/365 when it's not on the water. Have been doing it this way since I bought this particular boat in '94. Never a problem. **One thing I do these days is buy battery acid (electrolyte) from the auto parts store... instead of water I top them off when needed with the acid. It's only a couple dollars for about 1/2 gallon... since I started using it I am getting longer and stronger battery life.
  14. Sorry about that... having a new baby in the house will certainly make you miss a week here and there! ;D I still think they were a MUCH better team with him!
  15. It depends on the cut and type of steak. Good beef: med rare lesser cuts and lesser grades: medium. I agree
  16. I didn't realize that the Jets were a lock to win the super bowl, before Favre came along. : Whether you like him or not the truth of the matter is that he took a sub par team to the playoffs and then had a tough day. Too many picks? Yes, but where was the pass block and open receivers? There is MORE than enough blame to go around... anyone blaming Favre alone on this is just a hater. The off season drama is another story altogether.
  17. Some of us old guys are still under 40!
  18. Lucky dog! And congratulations!!
  19. Tx record caught 1/92 (18.18 lbs.) There has been a lull of sorts with big fish but I think it's starting to trend back up so I'm hoping to see it broken in the next couple years.
  20. I wish I was going... had the money already set aside. But with a newborn baby now home, my travel is very limited for a while... I'll most likely be there next year. Eddie, Get a bunch of pics for us to drool over!
  21. As I understand it, Fedex express (air) doesn't deliver to residential addresses on Sat. But they do deliver to businesses if specified. Fedex ground (freight) does deliver to residences on Sat. It sucks that you spent the money before you knew the deal. Lesson learned, I'm sure. As a side note I always call the vendor before a overnight shipment, to be sure it will go out that day and be delivered the next.
  22. ;D muddy - 1 burley - 0
  23. You can get a MBR844C IMX in your price range on ebay... It beats everything else on your list, IMO.
  24. Your best bet is to get rid of the mice. until then, I'd keep something next to the rods that the mice like more than cork... try peanut butter crackers.
