  1. I keep seeing the misconception that fast reels can move fish out of cover faster. Nothing could be further from the truth. I also see a lot of folks saying a slow reel will winch them out... again, this is false. (no offense to the guys in this thread as it gets posted all the time. Any fish (other than Burley sized fish ;D) are moved out of cover with the rod, not reel. Any reel, fast or slow is subject to the drag setting which 98% of the time is set to low to "winch" anything out, fast or slow. In bass fishing, the reel's gear ratio is for working baits and retrieving slack, not bringing in fish.
  2. I don't buy kits. They never seem to have the reel seat or guides I want in the sizes I would use. The savings on a kit is minimal... and non existent if you have to change anything. As for good value blanks, try Batson RX7 (or RX6 for lower $). Dollar for dollar they are tough to beat.
  3. Can I buy multiple items? Click the first one and straight to paypal i go. I'm trying to buy Christmas gifts for a buddy (and myself) ...lol Do you carry size N or 0-3 yet?
  4. Except roadtrips... he shows up to half of them a few days late! ;D ;D So if I find great value in a few of the higher priced reels/blanks, would I still qualify as a Low Budget Hooker?
  5. Should be easy to find most of them... not many people use cash anymore.
  6. Would anyone here trample, walk over, kick or step on anyone they saw gasping for air, lying on the ground? I bet not... so the thought of planning for this is not within the normal realm. Maybe I'm just naive. You might check that based on the hour of day... Our WalMarts (all I have ever lived near) always restrict to one entrance during the overnight hours. I know this because I always park by auto (fishing) and then have to go to the "front" if it's before 6am. And since they post signs saying what hours they close certain entrances, I would be their are within any ordinances or zoning. You probably are right for exits and fire exits though.... but they have one way locks so you can't come in by all doors.
  7. Like L.A. should have been ready for the riots. Come on Mike, that's about as logical as saying GM is at fault for drunk drivers.
  8. depends on your water.... around here the 844 is the all around rod.
  9. it's not that other lines are junk, but the IMX & GLX are just so good that the rest are weak by comparison and other brands do as well as those other lines for less.
  10. so wal-mart is at fault for the [criminal] actions of the public? What a load of crap. People have to be responsible for themselves... they should have locked the doors once this happened and arrsted everyone involved. It's not always possible to plan for other people's stupidity... if planning were so easy, there would be world peace and everyone would like thier in-laws.
  11. I've had a core since 1/08... very nice reel but when i needed another, i bought my 5th 50 MG. A side note- core holds even less line than the 50, so if you use mono, consider that. try a search or two, there have been a few comparison threads on these two reels.
  12. do some searches on recoil guides (here and rbo) lots of mixed opinions on them :-/
  13. I'm guessing they mean a walleye jig and spinner rod... their spinnerbait rods say spinnerbait rod. The bass jig rods say worm/jig.
  14. according to Loomis, the mossyback is between the GL3 and IMX.
  15. no problem, it wasn't a challenge, it was just a statement of my past experience. Poor wording by me, I meant that I fished 2 identical rods, except one was pegged. I did the side by side several times... pegged was better for me every time. Sounds like unpegged would win in your hands... Sort of my point, no one way is best for everyone. Garnet, what's your point? Holding hooks in my hand does not replicate a fishes mouth. I would feel the same thing with any hook as long as the shank doesn't clear my hand. (but I use Owner wide gaps which have a very different design than EWG) Once it does, with any of the hooks, I'll feel the point, unless the string angle is in line with the hook. But in fishing, you are always above the fish so there is almost never a straight line pull. I don't see what the argument is about. There are lots of us that peg and some of us are pretty decent fisherman... do you think we are all liars or just very consistently lucky? Think about jigs... they are pretty similar to a t-rig in this argument... if the weight caused you to miss all the time, the jig would be the worst lure on earth. Pegged just works better for me, and some others... You obviously won't change your position, and I'm firmly planted in mine. I'm going to step down now.
  16. We just have very different experiences... I can honestly say that my misses are very few and far between. When using lead, I get the teeth marks on all the time, as in nearly every fish. It proves nothing except that I set the hook on a closed mouth bass... which I would venture to guess is 99% of the time. I have fished unpegged side by side and in the same brush piles as pegged... I catch a lot more fish pegged and hang up way less.
  17. No offense to Larry Nixon or the OP but if they were right, my 20+ years of pegging a t-rig wouldn't have been very successful... and the funny thing is that it's my strong suit. Even funnier is that the small fish thing keeps coming up. I guess you could be right, though.... I have yet to land a Bass over 11.5 lbs on a t-rig. : I'm out of this one.
  18. All in the name of science. ...lol No wincing here, I have broken a couple blanks (on purpose) while testing certain things.
  19. I believe that when you do your part correctly, the weight clears the jaw before the hook begins to penetrate, regardless of the fish size. Yes there are a few exceptions but they are just that- exceptions. If you are hooking most your t-rig fish so deep that the weight is still in his mouth when you get him in, you might want to go back and read the high end rods thread. ....lol
  20. not everyone... If you could scientifically separate a reasonable sample of bites with each scenario, you might be able to draw a conclusion... The biggest problem with your train of thought is that your position requires that the hook gap be less than the diameter of the weight and that the hookset be in a straight line at jaw level which can't happen. I would still counter that your argument, even if it were true, does not account for the fact that in cover you will get more bites with the pegged sinker. (since you spend less time hung and do not disturb fish in the area) not to mention that you have a straight line connection with a pegged weight... with unpegged, the fish can take the bait off in any direction and the weight's position could create slack on the hookset. Oh, and any argument on hooking should consider hook design and the relative position of hook point to eye. It does matter.

  22. I agree! Looks pretty good.
  23. no, flexing the rod won't change the power or action...
  24. The official break had previously been set at 30 years old.
