  1. Bassmaster has your address... you have a subscription! And if it (the address) was wrong and you never got a magazine, you would have called them long ago. Sounds like a "bill me" when it arrives type of scam.
  2. They list it as a Med. power. I think the upper end lure rating may be a typo... even as a mod action, I wouldn't get near 1.5 oz. If it were mine, I'd pretend it said 1/4 - 1/2 oz. Here is the copy and paste from the all star site: AC GT2 Crankin Stick 6'6" C 1/4-1 1/2 10-20 Moderate M 7 + Tip
  3. Dave is also on about 350 radio stations across the country and you can download most of his show via the web site. back on topic... Tipp, If you already live there and they aren't leaving, why buy it now? Why not wait until they either leave, move or in time, pass away. You can still buy out your 2 brothers at that point. In the mean time, you will have a chance to get your career established, build an emergency fund and start saving money for the house, boat, etc. At this point, piling up cash in the bank may be your best option. (after you fully fund a Roth IRA) Just owning a home isn't always the best option. As a few hundred thousand foreclosures can and will attest to. back off topic... You might look into "Financial Peace University" in your area... it's a 13 week class (usually one evening per week) that will teach you how to handle money throughout your life. The basic principals will allow anyone, regardless of career choice, to control their financial future. If interested, enter your zip code from this link and see what's close to you. http://www.daveramsey.com/fpu/home/
  4. Diminishing returns? yup. But sometimes better really is better, even if it's only a little. (in my case, I like light weight reels) It's not for everyone, but if you can afford nice gear, very few people ever regret buying it. As for being afraid to hurt it... You just have to decide that you are going to fish it. If it gets scratched then it has charactor... I find that I'm careful even with cheap stuff so I don't worry about the $$$ stuff either. If you bought it to sell later, you are a collector... if you bought it to fish with, then enjoy the spoils and have fun.
  5. because so many of "us" are cheap! The $$$ market isn't very big over here.
  6. But don't "count" on the rent payments... buy a house you can easily afford, even in hard times. That way the house is a blessing. Buy too much and the house owns you in more ways than one! (are you a fan of Dave Ramsey? he has some great guidelines for buying a home)
  7. I believe the Core would be the counterpart. At least based on looks.
  8. She is a pro! One of these days, you'll need to give her a raise! ;D
  9. Red, If BaitMS is right, just send it fedex a few days early. Most rods I ship cross country are under $25. (insured)
  10. There were also 2 Daiwa's in that first pic. 1 has since been sold but, if makes you feel better, I am going to sell the Revos and add another 50MG or 2... I like the profile of them and they fit my hand better. The old Abu's are sentimental so even though they rarely see water these days, they are enjoying a plush retirement. ...lol
  11. So did I... You get a big "atta boy" for caring about your rods like that! Have a great trip and catch a few smallies for us!
  12. Here are a handfull of my projects: Here is a pic of the rods given to Glenn and Kerry at the fork trip. The top one is Alpsters
  13. Custom leather is always nice! I have a few pieces that I wouldn't even sell for 3X what I have in them. Ask him is he can cut it on a curve to get the length and then stretch it back to shape (so it lays flat) when it's molded... you might be surprised. I've seen some incredible things done with leather. Or use a contrasting alligator, shark, or elephant accent band in the middle, so it looks like the seam was only to accommodate the decorative band.

My panic box has another name... the cooler. When fish are tight lipped, I'm not. In reality, I'm with you. If those baits always work or get you out of a jam most of the time, they are what you need to be using on a regular basis.
  15. Do you mean the hood cushions? If that's is the question, they are supposed to hold the reel more securely and not scratch the reel's feet.
  16. Well done, Eddie! The rods look great! It adds another sense of satisfaction when you catch 'em on a rod you built! Congrats! Are they spiral wrapped or conventional? -keith
  17. As stated, be careful when buying it... I bought some from cabela's about 2 years ago that was in reality, cg-2 or 3 and was not worth 1/4 of what I paid for it. > And I also bought some from another source with the same result. I've still never actually seen "Flor grade" in person. Since there is no industry standard, everyone (with a few exceptions) overstates what they have, leaving the builder stuck and disappointed. That's why I only use Lamar Exotic Burl in my own grips. It's exactly what it is described as. Rarely is there any noticable variance. It's tougher, better looking (IMO) and less expensive than "good" natural cork.

Not so fast... we've got 4 more months of night fishing... then schooling in Oct (LMB) and then the smallie - crawfest in Nov., and last but not least we have Dec. PRESPAWN in the power plant lakes!!!! And then... we have Christmas!!
  19. For me it's as simple as line choice. Spinning reel gets #6 -#10 and Baitcasters get #12 - #25
  20. search "rod case" on BPS and you'll see 6 full sized hard cases on the first page. RW uses the Flambeau Bazooka, but I think they are all pretty good.
  21. I've got a couple of the Shimano Sedona's that I use for loaners and family. For the price, they are great and i just checked, they are on sale right now for $39 I've had them a couple years and are perfectly trouble free and user friendly. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=53109&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults For rods, you can get decent stuff at Academy or other local places. I'm not much help in budget spinning rods. And for line, I'd use (mono) #6 or #8 trilene XL. available everywhere, inexpensive and pretty good.
  22. Yes, search BPS or Cabela's, you can find a few different models. Or, you can always make one from PVC or a variety of other things.
  23. It's a few dollars more than your budget but worth considering... I copied it from this thread. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1202925290/6#6
  24. Telescopic won't help with It's 7'6" when you are fishing. I only suggest them if it's mandatory for storage. I have one suggestion if you buy a +T rod... don't spend a lot. Every one I have ever owned has broken in the same spot... where the butt hits the rod when collapsed (just below the butt guide) it will wear a circular groove, just like a tubing cutter and then it just breaks when loaded. On the onse i make, I wrap that area and double finish it to add protection. I don't know those rods but have seen threads on the Kistler jig & toad rod on this site... most were very pleased. I haven't noticed the other mentioned, which tells me something...
  25. The Core isn't black. And the red is metallic. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the fish won't care.
