  1. I have a question for all of you who have thrown this rig. Do you have to or prefer to use actual mojo weights (cylindrical slip sinkers) or can you use tungsten/lead worm weights and peg them with a bobber stop or rubber peg? I really want to try out the rig and not really sure I "need" the mojo weights. I'm looking to try something different from what I normally throw on a spinning setup, the Drop Shot.
  2. I have a spiderwire bag similar to that, without the front flap velcro part. It holds a good amount of tackle. Maxed out, probably a 3700 size terminal tackle tray and about 2 3700 plano boxes, plus a worm wallet. I switch between that and a Molle Sling Pack: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-Tactical-Gear-Molle-Hydration-Ready-Sling-Shoulder-Backpack-Daypack-Bag-/112328508788?hash=item1a274d0574:g:3WgAAOSwfVpYwGwi It depends on whether I want to go smaller with the molle pack or larger with the spiderwire. The only drawback is the spiderwire doesnt have a bottle holder. If I had to do it again I would have just gone for the molle pack.
  3. Definitely the Drop Shot.
  4. No worries dude. Just thought I'd ask... No risk, no reward. Honestly, I dont blame you. If I had a good amount of a discontinued bait/lure i wouldn't sell them either.
  5. Is your supply sizable enough to part with a few bags?
  6. Off topic... But WHERE did you find the Berkley Beasts? I have been looking everywhere for them... Especially the Breen color.
  7. I have three reels that I use for swimbaits, Daiwa Lexa 300, Abu Garcia Orra Winch, and the *** with a deep spool (for smaller 6" swimbaits).
  8. I only bank/shore fish as well, I don't know anyone with a boat or been to a real lake and rented a boat. I have been relegated to just going to local city park lakes and fishing there. A lot of the times I catch the skunk and probably average 1-4 bass a month (I also only fish 2-4 times a month on the weekends) so I know all too well what its like to go fishless... But I am a firm believer that if I can catch Bass in heavily pounded/pressured city park lakes, I can catch Bass anywhere. If you are only going to take a couple rods with you, I would save up and spend a little extra on better blanks. Most reputable rod manufacturers have value driven rods that are very good for the money. iRod has the Fiber Series, G.Loomis has E6X, Powell has the Diesel and Nusance line, and Dobyns with their Fury line of rods. I would definitely look into those. Like I said before, none of my rods are over $200 and most of these rods are about $80-$120. You get what you pay for with rods. So I would recommend a MF spinning rod and a MHF casting rod and that will cover most of what you might be throwing.
  9. Are you only looking for budget rods? How much are you willing to spend on a rod? I ask because when I started fishing and didn't know any better, I bought a cheap telescopic rod and reel combo from Ross and then upgraded to the cheap Walmart Shakespeare rods, then I got bit by the Bass bug and have over the years built up a 13 rod arsenal. Multi-purpose spinning and baitcasting combos, technique specific combos, etc. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely have saved up and sprung for a good MF spinning rod and MHF casting rod, it would have saved me a little money in the long run but not up front. You can certainly tell the difference between the budget rods and higher end rods. I have to admit though, that I do not have rods that exceed $200, in fact the rod that I use the most would be the iRod 7' HF casting rod (~$150), followed by a *** 7' MLF spinning rod (~$70). Both are not overpriced and handle just about everything.
  10. If I run out of Roboworms and don't want to place a $50+ dollar order on TW, I just pick up a bag from Walmart. You get less (8 per bag vs 10 per bag) but they come in a Roboworm ziplock bag vs the plastic bag with the cardboard top stapled on. I tend to keep my Roboworms in those bags if not in a plano or worm wallet.
  11. I actually bought these as an impulse buy on facebook... but I have fished the trout glider and it does sink slowly and horizontally. I added a split ring to the front and it does help it glide nicely. You can swim it and it has a nice lazy S motion, and if you twitch it it will dart left or right, and if your do a hard snap and give it slack it will turn 180 degrees. I really think this bait is a good alternative to the S-Waver or Savage Gear Gliders. I also took advantage of their sale, where I got 3 lures for like $30. I haven't pulled the joints or line tie or hook hanger with 80lb braid... but they all seem pretty solid.
  12. i think its bass herpes... berpes would be the technical term...
  13. Most definitely... That would also be a great name for an attractant! Lets copyright that and get crackin on the anti skunk formula!
  14. I fish local city park lakes in So Cal. so they get pretty hammered. But the most productive technique for me over the years has definitely been the Drop Shot. Also I'm not catching bass every hour, if I do catch any its more like one to three per outing. I catch the skunk a lot...
  15. It'd probably be a 4.5" Roboworm in Oxblood Light Red Flake. Drop Shotted.
  16. I hold the rod with the reel on top, and reel backwards... I'm kidding, I've seen a few people do that and it makes me laugh every time... I hold the rod with the split grip so to speak, 2 in front and 2 in back.
  17. I switch all of my split rings to the oval split rings. They keep the knot away from the split.
  18. Whats with the copper/bronze spool and highlights? Reel would have looked better with a silver or black spool...
  19. Never used them, concept is interesting. I'd probably throw a fluke type plastic or small paddle tail and fish it like a spybait.
  20. Looks like a Keitech Sexy Impact.
  21. I have been using the SK Caffeine Shad JR's I think they are a little heavier but have some nice action weightless or the double rig. Also TW has the Owner JR Minnows on clearance for a buck and change, they come in a plastic tray and are all perfectly straight. I have not fished those much but they do have some good action.
  22. Can you have a productive day on the water with just two rods, with a spinnerbait and a jig? I have been recently fishing with just minimal tackle at local city park lakes and the freedom of just one rod and a few lures is amazing. I would like to just bring two rods with the aforementioned lures tied on and bring nothing else. Do you guys think that I might have a good day just with these two lures? Thanks.
  23. You'll probably get better advice from more seasoned swimbait fisherman, but look at the rods ratings. If the weights of the swimbaits fall under the rated weights the rod can support, you're golden. I prefer a little faster taper than the moderate/moderate fast swimbait rods offer, I know that with a softer tip you can load the rod better and chuck a swimbait a good distance. Others will chime in shortly with better advice than I gave you.
  24. I actually have that reel on my iRod, the Daiwa Lexa 300 is on my big swimbait stick (Mattlures Swimbait Rod - 7'11" Heavy w/Telescopic handle)
  25. I've got the 6'9" MF that I use for Jerkbaits and weightless plastics. Its a surprisingly light rod and has performed well so far. I agree the butt cap is a little large and takes some getting used to, but it actually feels good with a two handed cast. I'll also add that the kinda micro guides are pretty sweet too. All in all I feel that it is a nice rod for the price.
