  1. I too have a lot of luck with Baby Brush Hogs. I have caught a few with the regulars, but very few. Watermelon Candy is by far my best color. The regulars are soo much bigger than the baby's, I wish they made one just slightly bigger.
  2. Or you could go this route
  3. If you are buying new, check out the RAM "express", pretty much its a 1500 that is pretty plain, but comes standard with a Hemi V-8. I think the price is like $23,000- $24,000, something like that. RAM came out with a similar truck for fleet sales that is selling like crazy, so they decided to offer one to the every day pick up buyer. You pretty much get a v-8 for the price of a v-6. Like everyone else said, any of the half tons would do what you are wanting, I would suggest a V-8 and towing package. You might get by with a v-6, but I don't think you will like it. Using the truck at near capacity all the time will cause things to wear out prematurely. You don't need a diesel unless you need to pull heavier loads, you would love pulling with one, but it's overkill. Figure up the extra cost of acquisition, cost of operation, and cost of maintenance, it just doesn't pencil out. If you can, Buy American! (just my two cents)
  4. That looks really painful. Wow, I can't believe that lake is up so high! I knew they had a lot of rain, but I didn't know they had that much! Good thing about that lake, it takes alot to get it muddy. Did you catch a bunch of 'em at Sugema?
  5. That is awesome! I bet that was a great feeling to be able to do that for him! I hope he appreciates how great his family is.
  6. I am watching a Roland Martin show right now (was supposed to go fishing, but my wife is sick), and I think he is fishing at Trophy Country. He said he was in Central Mo, on some ponds. He was fishing out of a Nitro but then he said that he had to get in a boat owned by the property to access a more remote body of water - and it looked like one of their boats. Anyone know if he has filmed a show there? He's never said exactly where he's at, but I may have missed it while I was cooking breakfast.
  7. If my history classes serve me, Chaplin had a confusing idea of politics. He hated what Hitler was doing, but was sympathetic to the communists.
  8. I would never be one to squelch one's entrepreneurial spirit, just do your homework - look into potential customers. You don't want to buy all that equipment just to mow five lawns. That being said, there have got to be other jobs around if this one is not working out. Get on craigslist, etc. I am paying someone to mow and weedeat a my yard at the house I am trying to sell, I pay $45.00 a week.
  9. That guy should have his man card revoked!
  10. I fished Sugema on the 12th & 13th for a couple hours both evenings, they were biting pretty good. I can't really remember, but I think the water temps were in the mid to upper 60's, but they have had some colder and rainy weather since then. I love that lake, its a really good crappie lake too. They killed off the shad in that lake last fall, and with it they got some of the other fish - reports say that the walleye took it harder than the other species, bass didn't seem to be affected by it too much. Saw a lot of people cleaning crappie too, so they must have come through it ok. The fish kill have people scared off some, so it may not be as crowded as usual(I've never had to fight for a spot to fish anyway). Seemed like the bass were up around the rip rap and flooded trees when I was there, I caught a lot of bass when I was targeting crappie.
  11. I have been wondering the same thing, I am sure it will be up. Let us know how you do!
  12. I swear that picture does no justice to how big that drum was!
  13. Trophy country? Did someone say Trophy Country?
  14. Aurora covers are probably the best you can have made. I priced one and decided I would see if I could find something else. I found a good cover at a good price on boatcover.info. I looked up the options they had, and called them to make sure what I was ordering. My boat is a small (17.6) fiberglass boat, and I bought a waterproof, heavy duty, trailerable cover for $213. It was what they call a semi-custom, and Carver is the manufacturer. I am really pleased. I have towed my boat through two bad storms (one on the way to the Roadtrip on Friday) and nothing under the cover was the least bit damp. I think the fit is the key, this is a semi custom but I don't think a custom would fit much better.
  15. I'm back home from my short stay at the Roadtrip. I had a blast and wish I could have stayed longer. I was glad to meet CWB, Long Mike, CJ and his wife, Big O, Steezy, Simp, Scrutch, Road Warrior, Fishing Rhino, Glen and Keri. Wish I could have run into the rest of the bunch. The fishing was pretty good for me - I will definitely go back there soon. I am now living vicariously through you that are still down there, so post some pics!
  16. Ok, I know I left myself open for that, but really? I said I think it is a good idea, and I will probably get one - until then I will be ok. I am not making light of the points already made, but there are much more dangerous things in my life than fishing without a life jacket on a boat that is sitting still. Just so this is not misinterpreted, I am pro-life jacket.
  17. Here is the latest report from Dave Stewart - see ya down there! April 14, 2011 Kentucky Lake: Water Level at Ky Dam - 357.77 Surface Temperature - 64 Lake Barkley: Water Level at Barkley Dam - 358.00 Surface Temperature - 63 Both lakes are about one foot below summer pool. These levels are just above the normal TVA River Operating System levels for this date in April. Earlier in the week, the lakes were fluctuating up and down about 6 inches every 24 hours but they have seemed to stabilized some over the past 36 hours. This has been another week of cold fronts with two frontal passages earlier in the week resulting in three plus inches of rain in the lakes area as well as up river. The backs of some of the creeks on Kentucky Lake are stained due to the runoff but more than fishable. Some of the creeks on Barkley are heavily stained and some are just stained. We have another major cold front approaching the lakes area tomorrow with strong storms in the forecast as well as windy conditions. This front also is predicted to drop another two plus inches of rain in the local area. Windy conditions are also in the forecast for Saturday. Anglers venturing on the lakes tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday need to check the latest weather and wind advisories before you launch. Fishing has not changed much since last week. The Largemouth Bass are still staging on lead in banks and secondary points for the most part with some later fish still out on main lake primary points or in the front halves of the creeks and bays. Reports on the Crappie indicate that they have not improved a whole lot over last week. Folks are catching some nice fish just like last week but the numbers of fish caught have been reported as less than one would expect for this late in April. Most of the Crappie being taken are still over staging brush piles in the creeks and bays with only a few reports of shallow fish. This is probably due to the up and down water levels this past week, hopefully the lakes will stabilize or at least quit the yo yo ing up and down so these fish will settle into good spawning patterns. Largemouth Bass: Largemouth are being taken on lead in banks and staging points just off the spawning flats. The numbers of these fish are good with a few nice ones being taken. These fish are staged up to move up to the spawning areas as soon as the water levels come up, which should be within the next week. These staging fish are being taken on medium and shallow running crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, Texas rigged lizards and creature baits, tube jigs and jigs. Some Largemouth are also being taken on main lake primary point and on channel banks and secondary points in the mouths of the creeks and bays. These fish are obviously the latter part of the spawn fish which have yet to move toward the spawning flats. These fish are being taken on deep diving crankbaits, Carolina and Texas rigged lizards and creature baits and jigs. Smallmouth Bass: Smallmouth Bass are being taken on gravel banks in main lake cuts as well as on gravel banks and points in the front parts of the creeks and bays. These fish are spawning. They are being taken on Carolina rigged creature baits, tube jigs and jigs. The numbers are being reported as low but a few nice fish are being taken. Some of the productive lures reported this week are: Strike King series 5 and series 3 crankbaits in sexy shad, Spro Little John medium running crankbaits in spring craw and black/chartreuse, Bandit 200 and 300 crankbaits in rootbeer/chartreuse and black/red patterns, Strike King red eye shad lipless crankbaits in red craw and sexy shad, Zoom lizards in green pumpkin and pumpkin, Charmer timber pups in green pumpkin, watermelon/purple and watermelon candy, Charmer tubes in road kill, green pumpkin orange flake and green pumpkin orange and purple flake and Slong's jigs in phantom with Net Baits paca chunk trailer. Crappie: Crappie are being taken over brush staging brush piles in 7-12 ft of water by vertically fishing with small jigs and minnows in the creeks and bays. Some nice fish are being taken but the bite is reported as sporadic and numbers low for this time in April. A few reports of early and late in the day Crappie being taken on shallow gravel banks by casting curly tail jigs and road runner lures. Most of these fish are being reported as smaller males. Bluegill/Redear: I have not had any reports on these fish but I would like to comment that over the past few days some of my clients have had Red Ears biting the tails off their plastic lizards as we are fishing for bass on gravel bars and gravel banks just off the spawning flats in about 3-4 ft of water. FLASH: The Cabin Bait and Tackle located on U.S. 62 in Kuttawa will be holding an Open House event on April 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to closing and on April 23rd from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be seminars during the days by many bass fishing professionals and industry representatives. These include professional anglers Guido Hibdon, Deon Hibdon, Payton Hibdon, Bill Smith and Ramie Colson as well as industry representatives Robert Nosbisch (Outlaw Rods) and Steve Riley (Shimano). Noted electronics expert Ben Parker will also be there on April 22nd with a seminar on Hummingbird Sonar and Side Scan. There will also be a number of tackle representatives attending with product specials and more. Be sure to mark you calendars now and plan on attending for some great information, deals and fun. The Cabin also has been given word that Kevin Van Dam will be making an appearance at the store sometime later this summer but no date has yet been set. More to come on this as more information becomes available. FLASH: Fisherman's Headquarters located at the U.S. 68/U.S. 641 triangle in Draffenville has returned to normal seasonal hours and is now open 7 days a week. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to dark Mon thru Sat and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. The store is stocked up with all your needs for bass fishing and panfishing. Come by and check out all the great new bass fishing tackle and get the latest fishing information. I highly recommend both of the above stores for all your fishing needs. The folks at these stores not only know fishing tackle and are friendly, but they are also knowledgeable anglers and can assist you in selecting what you need to put those big fish in the boat while you are here at the lakes. You won't find better tackle shops anywhere else in the lakes area. I also would like to recommend that while you are here in the lakes area that you stop by and visit Jet-A-Marina which is located on U.S. 62 in Calvert City just a couple of miles north of Ky Dam. Not only does Jet-A-Marina have a great showroom full of the latest in Ranger and Stratos bass boats as well as accessories, they also boast a top notch service department that has the best reputation in the region for great service. These folks have taken care of my clients many times when they have had problems with their boats while here and virtually saved their fishing trips from becoming a trip with no boat to fish with. These folks will do everything they can to keep you on the water if at all possible and do it right...no one could ask for more from a boat dealership. Jet-A-Marina also boasts some of the lowest prices for bulk engine oil anywhere. GUIDE SERVICE: For those of you that may not be familiar with my service: I am a full time catch and release bass fishing guide. I only guide for bass. 18. I know I changed mine, and it was like I never had a problem. The tech told me to rev up the engine in neutral for 30 sec or so after idling around all day to keep it from happening again. Like I said, I'm no mechanic just telling you my experience.
  19. I'm no mechanic, but I had the same problem last year with my boat. I was told it was from idling too much and not getting a complete burn out of the cylinder (fished on a lot of idle only lakes). I know also that the fogging oil can foul the plugs the first time it is used after winterizing. I would think that if your Carb is causing the fuel to run to rich at times, it could cause the same scenario.
  20. Doesn't get much better than that!
  21. I should have an extra bed in my room for that night, just shoot me a pm. Probably won't take my computer, so get with me the next couple of days - see above for phone #.
  22. Not to high-jack the thread, but do you use a trailer on a finesse hair jig? I would think not, that the hair serves the same purpose. I bought some and was wondering about that.
  23. I usually just have mine on anytime the big motor is on, mainly because I can't stand to fish with it on. After reading this I may get an auto-inflatable to wear all the time, they are just so expensive.
  24. That's how I am starting to feel about it lately. I think I must be between stages, because I am still having trouble with going out and catching nothing. The last time I went to FL I hired a guide. We were trying to pick the best place to go to fit my goals for the day. He said "Would you rather get 25 to 30 bites today, or get 5 to 10, and have a chance at a monster?". At that point I was torn, deep down I knew I would rather get the chance at the monster, but I also knew if we only caught 5 dinks and not the monster, I would feel like I didn't get my money's worth. I chose the latter, mainly because a cold front came through and he thought the bites would be stingy either place, so we might as well try for the big momma. I caught 7 fish, 6 that might have weighed a lb each, and one that was in the 9lb range. Catching a whole lot of quality fish is a different story, however. When I fished with ghoti at Trophy Country we easily caught 80 between the two of us. We had some dinks scattered here and there, but 90% were 21/2 to 31/2 lbs. That was a blast.
