Diving Birds has been good pattern also. Cheapest fish finders on the market. I try to employ the birds as often as I can. Funny story, I had a few boats follow us a few years back, we were targeting the late fall open water schoolers. You know the drill, if they are busting the surface, a stealthy approach may keep them on top longer and we have had the same two boats come running up on them two days in a row. On the third day about the normal times, we saw them coming out of the marina, so on this day, I brought a tube of crackers and crushed them and scattered them on the water. The birds came, so did the boats as fast as they could, and we slide out went up into a creek. WE lost them using an old trick I had seen striper guide use on locals who did the same when the big show was going on!!!! Matt

Sorry we keep missing each other. come on down on some weekend and get out on the boat with me!!!!!! I'm hoping Ltrain and myself get to meet this weekend and do some fishing together. LTrain may be up for fishing a couple of Open tourneys in Dec together on Cedar Creek with Media Bass. That would be cool. We did leave the lake Saturday and stopped off at Lake Tawakonia to catch a couple of stripers or hybrids for supper. I pass right by her and hit a public ramp. On and Off the water in 40 minutes with supper in the livewell. Chris and I will do that on most trips when coming back from Fork. Heck, I should have put on a Berkley Gulp and caught my dinner on a good Lake Fork Cat. That one is almost guarantee also. That Gulp is the best Texas rigged catfish bait I've come across. Never had much luck using it for bass, but the kitty fish like it alot. Hookem Matt

Most small bait fish will go deep when the temps drops low enough. Currently in Texas, we haven't seen temps plummit, so our shad are still cruising the creeks in the shallow. they may move 3 miles in a few hours, they will continue to seek the plankton blooms in the creeks. On those inactive days, you find the bass suspended below the bait in the winter in deeper waters. Learn to jig a spoon vertically to them and you may see your catch rate improve on those slow days. If you are fishing 200 boat docks on a lake, first off, lots of lakes have building criteria on certain bodies of water. Like using steel pole for corners, or Wood. If you are flipping docks and you catch a bass on the shaded cormer on a coupel of dock, what more do you need to attack all shaded corners. In Texas, we havent had the brutal cold front to drop most lake temps, but when it does happen, one of the first places I check on one lake is the walkway pilings going to the boat dock. These would be the wooden poles that are shallow and heat up faster. I have noticed on Cedar Creek, that bigger bass like to move from under boat docks around 10ish on sunny days to warm up in shallow water. kicker is, its the docks with beech sand in the shallow. The softness asorbs heat and warms faster. So once I find one big girl sunning, then its on like Donkey Kong. Matt

Everyone looks at the Stats being thrown out. Sounds like some Bass research and only the data that applies to the study is used to make a point. Colts havent lost since last year. Colts have taken the undefeated streak far into each season. Colts have already beaten their div. on the road this year, which is by far a lot more competitive than the Pats div. or anyone else they played thus far. I say if the Colts played the same schedule that the Pats did, it still would look like Pats are better team. Dungy has too much class to run the scores up and pad the teams stats. I'll take the -5 1/2 points that will be the game time spread and the colts at home. Brady does currently own the series and most of the stats, last time I checked, Manning was still gonna play even though the media and most say its blow out. We'll see just how bad they do get beat. matt

First off, fishing in general is done one on one for most part. That is you and the fish. My DAD always taught things in perspective as to respect what you persue. Its you against the Bass. My DAD taught us that is is more sporting for "us" to land the fish by hand. Nets are better now days, but still take some slime off every time they are caught. So lipping a Bass to me is about sportsmanship, kinda like shaking hands with the other team whether you won or lost at the end of the game. To land that fish one on one is fair fight, you are giving the fish a chance to survive. My Dad said that fish, that little Green Fish that I fell in love with gives me free therapy, stress relief, enjoyment and pleasure that I don't get from other avenues in life. The least you can do for something that gives us so much pleasure is to ensure its survival!!!!!! Whether for sport or supper, they are fun to catch. In short, Texas is a little more open than some states, we were taught that its not sporting to hunt deer on feeders, we always had feeders to keep doe in the pasture, but never to hunt off them. Its about respecting mother nature and displayng sportsmanship to those that we persue. I have seen bass lost because of rookie netters, and just cause its meant to happen once in awhile, just as lipping some, you may lose one now and then. Matt

Okay, not to sound like a Jerk, but JC, have you watched football at all???????? Manning has won the last 3 straight, by the way, Brady won the first 6 straight, There you go, they have played 9 times total. And as for the receiving core over the years, he's had some good weapons out of the backfield to go along with these receivers who got bigger contracts with teams willing to pay them One thing the Pats haven't tried to do is pay the better receivers. Anybody remember Deion Branch, who got paid to play for Seattle i think. How about David Patten, or David Givens, or Terry Brown, or Troy Brown. Brady by the numbers is bettter than Mannings numbers, but don't make excuses that don't exist. If these guys didn't have talent, they wouldn't be in the NFL or called PRO. Brady didn't get those numbers by not completing, obviously some one was good enough to catch all those passes since starting in 2001. And I didn't mention his LB/TE whos been pretty impressive, Vrabel. I'll still take the Colts in close one. Matt

Alot of spots have red eyes, spots above the lateral line and the biggest character difference is that when a LM's mouth is closed, the jaw extends past the eyes. When a spots mouth is closed, the jaw does not extend to the eyes or past. A spot in Texas averages about 1/3 the size of the LM, our record is 5.5lbs. Matt Great looking fish 4bz's. Congrats on the Team win. I took a test ride in a Legend this year and can say they are superior boats. Danny Golden, a guide on RayRoberts had his boat doing 70 miles across the water on Fork, shut her down to neutral, and let the boat come off plane, and not one drop of water came over the stern of the boat. Very smooth ride, impressed. You guys won a really nice boat. Hookem Matt

That was a slam, and a good one too ;D Russ, can a lady help carry your boat in and out every time you fish that nursery you call a fishing hole? Or do you need muscle? I have never asked, but how long is the hike to launch your boat, and how long does it take for you to be on the water once you arrive at your private honey hole. I think you have said its not as much private as it is just having the issue of carrying all your tackle, a hastle. Nice place that doesn't appear to be pressured. Matt

Hello, NFL Europe done failed!!!! Why still push it? Do you think the season ticket holders got a refund for only having 9 games this season? Most cities have stadium bond elections. By moving the games to other areas, the biggest effect is on the local economy, which in most cases, the business owners whos taxes are raised, along with taxpayers, are promised that the games will increase revenue, so how can a city benefit when you lost the potential revenue for a game. I don't see how its fair to the season ticket holders who paid for that game. Also, most dollars that Owners garner from the NFL are American dollars, I don't think its fair to Americans to take games from us. The Giants made the playoffs because they got the Extra game at home due to New Orleans Dome being repaired. Giants was 6-2, and 2-6 to finish the season at 8-8 and a playoff spot due to 9 home games. I would also agree if Europe really wanted our football, NFL Europe wouldn't have gotten canned. Matt

Mark paid both deposits. He said that he couldn't physically fish both trails. He will have decision on which trail he goes with in about 30 days. I can see he's leaning towards the Elites. I really think the reason that stands out is the 11 events over only having 6 regulars events on the FLW. Matt

Okay, lets start with the first statement. has anyone been watching football the last three years? Obviously, you didn't watch the Colts or the Pats the last three years !!!~!! Colts have won the last 3 meetings they have played. So the second to last paragraph which stated Manning has beat Brady once in his career is bogus statement. Manning has won the last three straight meetings. Including last years come from behind 18 point come back in the AFC championship game. Granted, Pats have won the last 2 out of 3 playoff games but the Colts have won 3 straight. The last point about defense and the Colts. Colts don't man up on the corners, haven't in the past 7 years, its zone all the way. Opening day game between Saints and Colts, Colts cornerback, or EX corner back Jason David, who left to go to the Saints got burned all day by his former QB, Peyton Manning, why did he get burned so bad while playing for New Orleans? NewOrleans had him in man coverage, something he never had to do in Indy. Exactly what good teams have the Pats faced. Theres only one real team to show how the Pats did, and that was Dallas, who did put 27 on them. Dallas played them for almost 3 quarters, something no one has done. Funny how the Champs are the team to start undefeated in the past 3 seasons and they get no respect. Who has stopped the Colts the last three seasons? Not many!!! The team that trys to run the ball more than they have,(above season average) will probably be out of rythym and lose their first. I'm taking the Colts, they are the Champs, still unbeaten also, and have plenty to be upset about for not getting any respect. Any body remember Moss and Minnesota, came out and set the all time scoring record with Culpepper and Moss, Carter. What did they win that year? Well, Ring Fry, I left all of Forks bass in the lake for ya this week. Saturday, I got skunked. North wind the past few days prior and on Saturday, with lake temps in most areas 65 degrees. Talked to abunch of couples fishing a tourney. Tough day for all. No spinner bait, crankbait fish or trap fish. Those are the no brainer fish, that I couldn't catch. It happens. Nothing has shown up on the Rumor. Matt

I'm in this dilemia right now also. Looking to upgrade and was thinking about a remote unit. I have used a bunch of TM's, don't have nothing bad to say about most TM's. A lot of good things posted. Most units have been upgraded, and existing wiring was left in place and in-adequate for new motor. Thus the heat build ups and melting wires. Poor maintenance on batteries is also another factor that leads to problems. Waiting to charge batteries after usage is hard on them, not checking battery fluid leves, not using distilled water as directied, tap water has too many impurities in the water that damage the cells. Never upgrade the circuit braker with out doing the math first. I have MG hand controlled unit with 2 zerk stomps on deck. Looking to upgrade. I have gotten used to hand control and buttons on deck, I can say that not having foot control has been nice on the fact that the deck looks clean at all times. If I do get another TM with foot/cable control, I will have boat put in shop and have deck recessed for installation. I have had BassCats with the ergonomical trolling motors, and also love the way they keep the boat looking neat. Good thread. Matt

Last time I checked, Washington was ranked 3rd in defense, and I'll agree, it will be the best defense he has faced thus far this year. Shouldn't be a problem for Brady and crew. I'm curious to see how well the Skins move the ball. The Pats should win this one. Matt
