Coach Fran is gone!!!
You don't understand Texas Aggie football. Its about beating us t-sips, not about what he makes on the side. Winning is the motivating factor at most colleges that have a winning tradition. Matt

Fact From Fiction II Last post
If bass can't smell oils in the water, then why did Dad and others alike always make us wash our hands after messing with boat oil and gas. On one theory, its a petroleum product, which is oil based, why wash your hands? Fish can't smell oil based products. My theory is simple. I want to better my odds on having a good day, so eliminating what I can individually, and thats up to me. I try to eliminate boat noise all the time, I turn electronics off all the time when approaching big fish areas. I try not to wear LBH's bright Orange shirt he gave me on bright days. I try to blend in to the sky contrast. I have washed my hands in the boat before. I try to keep the sun in play at all times. And yes, after a short time fishing and it appears to be tough, I apply scents or attractants. Not even sure which is proper anymore, scents, masks, or attractants. Matt

Fact From Fiction II Last post
http://www.another site/article11.htm There are too many articles that can be googled that give so much evidence, its over whelming. Evidence that makes you look at both sides. This article I just read is one of many that could have links posted to. Simple, Google, Scents, and Bass together and you will have endless reading material. This is were I wished Doug H would come in and give his .02. Seems to me, the debate I have read about, oils and water soluble properties require both properties. What I have read has no gospel. But alot of articles, one such refered to lots of Texas Wildlife Biologist studies. I have faith in Texas programs as I have witnessed the great strides the state has made in research of bass. I go back to the statement I have mentioned many of times. It gives me confidence when I have applied my Bang, Lunker Sauce, and a few others to my baits. Help, confused in Texas, Dear Doug, Can you help a fellow basser out? Matt

Coach Fran is gone!!!
RW, Didn't Coach Callaghan just get a contract extension recently? and for what did they base that on? a 9-5 record last year, now they have to propose a buyout for that extension. Same with the Aggies, Fran just got contract extension also, and now they have to do buy out. I don't understand colleges giving extensions to coaches who have done nothing for the program. matt

U of Nebraska's AD FIRED!
Husker, I have seen UT beat Nebraska 3 times, Nebraska has some of the classiest fans I have ever been around after those loses. My hats off to your fans, I wished I could say that Texas displayed better sportsmanship all the time. Not all are bad, but a few do give your college a black eye sometimes. Good luck on finding the next T. Osborne. Hard shoes to fill. matt

Coach Fran is gone!!!
Word on the street from the Ticket, radio sports station in Dallas, coach Fran's contract has been bought out. Looks like Texas A&M will be searching for new coach. Bout time, Fran hasn't done nothing for the college or the Big XII. Matt

Scenario!
Where ever the bait is, the bass won't be far. Spoons, crankbaits and swimbaits are good methods for persuing bass when they are in chase mode. Fall means changing weather patterns and fish are doing the same. One day they are on a mainlake point, and the next day they are two miles up the creek. If you are graphing bait, look for top water action in the same areas to start soon, specially mornings and late evenings. Late fall, warm fronts may push bait into the backs of the creeks, and cold fronts may push them back to the mouths of creeks and coves. consecutive warm days, I fish mid way to the backs, and on colder days, I fish mid to the mouths. Once the water cools way down, flats on warming days next to deep water may hold lots of fish. Traps and such maybe the ticket, if that don't work, jerk baits and jigs will catch some fish. I like spoons for the suspended fish over humps and creek channels and similar contours/structures. A spoon, tail kicker like a little george, if fished properly can boat fish all fall and winter. For those fish closer to the bottom, drop shot and C-rig do the trick. Matt

Gar, bad for bass?
Gar are considered a rough fish. If you skin one, they are very good source of white meat. I had a coach that skinned and cooked one. I couldn't tell what kind of fish it was. Good meat and eating period. The trick was to skin it over cleaning it. matt

U of Nebraska's AD FIRED!
Don't know about Gary and Texas A&M, but was very pleased to see the Texans get him, it won't be long if they give him the players he needs, they'll be competitive. I don't know what the Aggies pay for Fran, but I think its too much. Normally a die hard Texas fan would be thrilled to give Fran a vote to stay, but this goes deeper than Texas vs A&M, its about restoring the balance in the Big XII. Would Gary have come home if the money was right, or is the pros where he wanted to be? Don't get me wrong, I do love UT winning, but not having balance between the South and North hurts competition. My two outside longshots this year have been Mizzou and KU. I like the KU coach and Chase Daniels was from near by school. Great QB that had no place to go in Texas or someone that was gonna be starter for a few years more than Chase wanted to wait. The Black shirts need to give them back also. That defense hasn't been the same since the Osborne days either. matt

Slowest buzzbait
http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=61294&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults ths one is pretty slow also. Matt

Slowest buzzbait
Dirk, I make adjustment by bending the blades in more will slow the bait down, also by bending blades in or out, you control the noise and splash. On calmer days, bending the blades in more will make the bait quiter and slower. Obviously the opposite for bending out more. The less splash is because the bait rides higher but slow due to your speed. You can buzz that thing and get some serious splash, sputter, and noise. Just tinker with the bait and you'll see what it takes to get it where you want. matt

Gar, bad for bass?

Which do you enjoy more???
The water restorith thy soul. Fishing gets me away from the rat race, the city, the career, and the sad, sad, sad news that is on all day long. You can't turn the TV on without hearing about 5 more murders, a wife beating, a kidnapping and a overdose. Using the tackle, no question, Matt

Deepwater swimbait? Looking for a fix
I have hopped and yo-yo'ed them off road beds and such, but normally in open water, I swim them slowly thru the schools. Tom Redington has great fall articles on his web site about finding and catching the fall bass, and help on finding the active bass. Don't know if he posted it on here yet. great article, good info. U of Nebraska's AD FIRED!
I wish someone would fire our head coach. Fran needs to GO!!! > Biggest mistake ever, Firing Slocum, or running him off. When Slocum departed, so did the "Wrecking Crew". Slocums offense might have been lacking, but his defense was amoung the nations best most years!!!!!!!!! Very good for Texas, Bad for the Big XII. Same goes for Nebraska, I don't think the pass has "caught" on very well. Tom Osborne was tough act for any coaches to follow. Appears they may go thru a few more coaches to find a coach like Tom. College Football - Who ya got?
Its too early. South Fla, still has 3 key games to get by, Rutgers on Thursday night I believe, Louisville, and Cincinatti, which just lost first game. South Carolina and the rest of the SEC still got some games to sort their mess out, and SEC championship. VT is still over-rated in my book, there victories haven't been impressive enough. OU got its first test against Miszzou, other than that, they haven't had a tough schedule. Freshmen at QB, give them 2-3 years to make serious run for the title. Pac 10 will sort themselves out also. Big Ten will see Michigan or Ohio State coming out of that conference. Even though Michigan got beat twice already, they did score some points, so offense wasn't lacking, it was defense, and that appears to have been patched. OSU maybe the sleeper to walk in to the title game. Still alot of football to be played. Hookem Matt

Is This For Real?
I wouldn't make any of those baits until the register door closed with the money for the order already in the bank. Think about that. How many ordinary fishermen can afford one, not to mention more than one? Would you have 30 of those in stock laying around? I'd make them as requested. Matt

Deepwater swimbait? Looking for a fix
jb, first off, when you have followers, they are interested, but there is something they didn't like about the bait. I can't say what your bass are currently feeding on, but do know in Texas, that the shad have spawned numerous times this year and the majority of the shad are small at this time of year. Maybe try smaller cranks first. A slight variation in crank color also. With clear water or fairly clear water, I some times down size my line, down size my trebles, and my baits. Yesterdays great adjustment came on weight vice colors. I normally use 1/4 oz or smaller on T-rig, but yesterday they wanted a faster falling 10 inch, my color has been on, but it was the weight that saved the day. I did try some other colors but had nothing going until I opted for faster dropping bait. What depth do you think you are getting down to? How do you know for sure? There isn't anything i can't fish or cover with Storms swimbaits. One hook don't matter if the fish aren't hitting anyway. And my lakes have so much timber, you can't afford to have treble hook stinger. Making that simple adjustment is a confidence statement to yourself at the end of the day. Just remember, the fish have already indicated to you they are some what interested in that bait, now just make that small adjustment. matt

What bait do you think takes most skill to fish?
I'd say a jig is the hardest to master. Whether thats a discipline or skill. 95% of a jig is detecting the hit. Most baits requires some type of action to be emparted to the bait. Then again, fishig deep water is a tough skill to master for some and not to others, with any type of bait. Matt
