Lake Fork
This last front over Thanksgiving must have dropped her fast with all the cold rains that was in the front. When you go into Glade, do you ever venture to the bank on the right as you enter Glade. Some good grass on that stretch and bass like that rounded bank. I'm tied up on CC for the next two weeks. WhiteOak is just past the 515 bridge before you hit Birch. There is WhiteOak bay also further up in the NW arm above the 2496 bridge. Some very good grass in the middle arm, and red traps dominate the winter grass in that area. WhiteOak branch into 3 fingers, right , left and middle. Also back out to where all three join. Deep and some huge trees mark the channel of the intersection. Some hawgs come from those channels. If and when I can get out there, I;ll post where and what. Matt

thursday night : green bay vs cowboys
Idle chat around Dallas that has been topic is if Dallas loses this one, they will probably lose in GB because of the Colder weather. Tony Romo was product of Wisconsin. His college stats, even though I don't think any of his games were Dec or Jan up there, was from the north. Tony threw for close to 9000 yard and over 90 TD's in college. WOW!!!! Some serious stats. Also, please don't say Div II don't matter. Cause you still got throw it and somebody has to catch it. And its New England that has the flip side of the coin I thought. I haven't heard that analogy being applied to either team. New England is the team that has played by that script.

College Football Coaches
I think Bob Stoops is very good coach, I just think he's over rated and heres why. Since his brother took the job after the first title., and left for Arizona, the Sooners haven't really been a factor. They lost to KSU in the BIG XII title game only to receive at-large bid to play for national title to get blowed out by LSU and we had USC named as AP Champs. The nest season they lost to USC very badly again. Two years in a row. Now those teams that made the 3 title games were already at OU when Stoops took over. The two fifth year senior QB's and the JR. Hypil, Hybil, and White were all recruited by the other coach. So basically, Stoops hasn't really won anything off his own recruiting.

The Dark Meat
The dark meat or blood stripe as some call them serve two functions. One is to circulate blood and its second function, it is home to sensors in the lateral line, We all have general info on how fish use the lateral line. Filleting the blood stripe out will give your fish a better smell and taste.

Basic Boater Questions
I can only remember footage of seeing one Pro anchoring. I do know in the lesser tourneys, I see guys anchoring or tieing up alot. I have always preached a motto of "Time is money and money is Time during a tourney". I, 99% of the time, break a crank off no matter what the cost, and you can bet I have alot more, cause it don't get tied on unless I got spares. So on the lines of a pro, time is money, and they have alot of reserve tackle, so again, I have never seen a pro go after a lure with a retriever. I have seen a pro or two go after a favorite that was tied on, not with a lure retriever. I do own one, but seldom take time to use it. I loose more money on cranks than any other tackle. As for angles. I will give you one angle to this question. When you approach a dock or laydown tree. Disect that tree at different angles or approach it from the back tossing out to the furthest point working your was towards the back. Move out to one side and try those angles, back middle and furthiest point out. Move out to the front and pitch back the the trunk and work your way out. Move out to the other side and work it the same. Remember, there maybe twenty nice looking areas to pitch/flip to, and hitting them at all angles sometimes produces a hawg. I have seen guys ahead of me make 10 casts and move on. where as I made 35, I got the big girl because of persistence and hitting the angles. As for a dock, lots of guys simply hit what they can from the front approach and move on. When most boat docks have walk ways and lots of stuff located from the shore to the boat house that offers shade and habitat for smaller baitfish. Work the shallow back sides of docks specially in winter were the water warms due to soft sand asorbing some heat. I have found good patterns on the dock walk-ways from shore to the dock, I like the pilings to pitch and flip at. So learn to take angles that don't get hit alot. Learn to skip a tube under skinny docks. Its a practive that isn't used as much as it should. Thats an angle that can produce because of casting where most can't go.

The Dark Meat
We always associated the blood stripe as to be bad fat and aids in the fishy taste. Striper guide told me it was bad fat. I just know to cut it out.

thursday night : green bay vs cowboys
No body's upset about Thursday game not being on cable? Its the rant here local, parts of Texas will not see the game Thursday. Mainly, the Dallas area will see a televised game, and local Green Bay, thats it, if you don't have dish, your not watching. Brett is having magical year. Anything he does the rest of the year would not surprise me. I remind other Cowboy fans that Romo is basically a 2nd year rookie, he lacks the big game exposure and experience that gets you to the next level. I see Romo as young and being around for awhile. Bret would not hurt my feelings if he made one last run at the big dance. When Bret hangs the cleats up, it will be a long time before his ironman record is challenged. Congrats to the Pack fans. Farve has been class act for your franchise for 17 years.

Get ready for a taste of NFL you haven't experienced before. The NFL Ticket has the Thursday game, so if you arent' local and or have the ticket, you don't get to watch this marquee match-up. Let the grumbling begin. Matt

MIZZOU-RAH! TIGERS! #1
Chase Daniels played football for the South Lake Carroll Dragons. Texas 5A State and National Champions. Chase has already played in some big "games" coming from that kind of tradition. Chase never lost a High School football game of any kind. I think KU's QB had some bad breaks early that cost them. His INT was out of his recievers hands. MU looked to be ready for prime time Sat. nite. KU has big game tonite. Arz comes calling, oops, thats BBall. No need to hang your head JayHawks, KU played well this year. And the future looks bright.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. Missouri Tigers
I sure hope it's the "game of the century" (speaking of " .." I still think it's funny that everyone called the OU/Boise State game last year the game of the centry...only 6 years into the century) Cheers to great football! So sorry, the game of the century was UT vs USC Texas winning National Title is nominee for game of the century. tonites game was win win for me. Two Texas QB's, and another new team from the north plays for the title. Big XII title that is. Congrats to the Tigers. Chase Daniels was member of the National Champ South Lake Carroll Dragons, which he never lost a High School game. Kid got Heisman numbers. What was it, 8 games of 300 yards passing. Nothing shabby about that.

Texas Chokes Again.
Ditto. Schedule your playoff games in the non conference portion of the schedule. The very reason Hawaii wont be seen is because there is no one in conference for them to prove any point. Go beat a caliber team to show case your teams potnetial. I like the bowl system

Amistad info?
Lots of big money tourneys in March. That lake also fishes big, theres lots of room. Mexican license needed only if you venture across to that side of the water. Guides are normally booked solid during that time frame. As Big noted, beds are very common in Feb with mild winters. If you can go and read the results and story of the last two years elite series on Amistad, you will see the first year, they caught them on beds all week, were as last year, it was hit and miss, mostly being pre-spawners. Its up to mother nature and always will be as to win they bed. good luck, and please post all the info you find. Amistad was on the list of possibles for the Third Annual forum get to gether, so any info would be welcome. I think two of the biggest drawbacks for Amistad are boat rentals, and the length of travel once landed at major airport. I'm 45 minutes from Fork if you ever get up here. Matt

Any "Sooner" Fans???

Lake Fork
Midways to the back of creeks has been productive where good grass is found. If the other bite isn't working, try the traps on top and the edges of grass. I had water on Cedar Creek that was 67.5 Sunday, so this cold front is not gonna shut them off for long if at all. We'll be on the water some where, Green Durango with BassCat. Matt

Lake Fork
What will you guys be riding in? What time? Details man. Friends tell me that the red/orange and firetiger trap bite has been good. The trap is the best bet for numbers when cold fronts have pushed in, but the jig get the better fish consistently on frontal days when the bite is tough. I'll be running White BassCat with Bevo on the motor. Hookem Horns on both sides. Hope to see you guys there. Matt

Midland/Odessa?
Quail populations are up and down. In the 70's and 80's, we had some great Blue and Bob Whites numbers in West Texas. Fireants are getting to most hatches, the numbers vary from year to year. I haven't had a skillet shot in a few years. I use to go to about 15 spots and catch them under the same mesquite thickets all the time. Step Mom was nurse in Crane for 40 years. Matt
