  1. Welcome aboard, Avery!
  2. Welcome aboard! Native makes excellent kayaks, so does Wilderness Systems, Hobie, FeelFree, Jackson, Ocean Kayak, and many more. I'm not sponsored by any kayak company and I've sat in quite a few boats. I settled on the Native Ultimate 12 because, for me, it felt better than the Wilderness Systems Commander. Both are hybrid kayaks. I have not been disappointed in all the years I've owned it. Your best bet is to go to a kayak store and demo as many as you can -- of those you're interested in. Reviews and recommendations are one thing, but they are subjective. Only you can determine what will fit best for you.
  3. Happy b-day, Mike! Good luck going after a birthday bass tonight
  4. She's a beaut!
  5. Welcome aboard! Great catches!
  6. Welcome to both of you! No help from me as I'm in the Tidewater area. But there are many here in NoVA who will probably chime in soon enough.
  7. Welcome aboard! I'm a fan of Bass Pro's Carbonlite rods paired with a nice Shimano Chronarch. I've heard great things about the Aetos, but I'd also look at a St. Croix Legend Tournament, fantastic rods, though starting around $240. As for PFDs, what are you in? Bass boat, jon boat, canoe, kayak? I recommend a PFD and it doesn't have to be brand name, for all of those. I always wear my PFD when kayaking. Always. It happens to be a Bass Pro Ascend version and has worked well for many years. There are the Mustang or BPS inflatables, that would give you a little more comfort and lightness. Just have to have extra gear for reloading if they inflate on you.
  8. I usually go to where a GBH is fishing, means there are fish there...kind of like how they look for birds when fishing in the ocean.
  9. California, here I come!! ... What honey? I can't go? Ok, California, you're on my bucket list along with Florida. One of these years I will come down. Oh, and Mexico bass, too.
  10. Wow. That's a hefty smallie lady. A beauty.
  11. Hard cider doesn't agree with me very much. I've tried several, including the mixtures with black cherry, and so on...usually only as a mix with a light beer as alone it is too sweet for my taste. But any way I try it, my stomach says "please, don't do that again...."
  12. Welcome aboard!

    Welcome aboard, Jeff!
  14. I do both. I like to measure and weigh when the bass is "significant" to me, usually 3# and over by guess. I'll weigh-only if it is, by guess, under that amount, if I think it is worth weighing...
  15. Fantastic! Never happened to me...
  16. Welcome aboard!
  17. Nice catch! I never mind single-fish days when the bass in question is one like that!
  18. Welcome aboard! Senkos are fish catching machines in my waters, too. That's why I fish them so much, but moreso wacky than TX. I normally use Zoom Trick or Finesse worms for TX.
  19. No tourneys for me, either, but over the last couple years I've fished very little during the summer. Just haven't had the passion. The heat and humidity are a pain, doesn't matter the body of water. Gaining weight makes it all the worse. So that's got to be a priority for me and it isn't. Taking time off also helps me focus on my sons' and their interests--they only focus on fishing during certain times of year. They move on to other sports, and things they and their friends are in to at the moment. It also helps with spending money on things I don't really need. Keeps money in our bank account. Fall brings insane travel for elite level soccer for two of the boys - almost every single weekend is travel. And now one of my boys has taken up mountain biking - racing with a local club. So there's travel for that, too. I'm learning -- at 47 -- to just enjoy the curves life throws at me and not worry about missing out on bass fishing five days a week. Life is much bigger than that.
  20. Welcome, Son of BankBassing!
  21. I do, but usually on non Gamakatsu hooks. I'll try to buy hooks that are sharp out of the bag and only sharpen if they were dinged up on a snag or something. Now I have used BPS hook and have had to sharpen them out of the bag. Though to be fair, that was not on every BPS hook...the thing that threw me off BPS hooks was breakage.

    I remember...
  23. I can't speak for the Tatulas other than the excellent reputation they've gotten from a number of members here. As for the Lexa, I do like it, I gave mine to one of my sons and he's doing very well with it. I think Daiwa makes a great reel in this price range, FWIW.
  24. Wow, $600 worth of frogs!!! They're beautiful, no doubt. Hope they catch you a record!!
