  1. On a 7.1:1 Quantum Accurist, 6' M power rod. Always tie on a leader, fwiw. Caught my 7.5lb PB on it last year. This one happens to be spooled with 10lb Fireline, so 4lb diameter. But still thin... My Lexa is spooled with 20 lb Power Pro.
  2. Could be a spool tension and break thing going on. I use 10 and 20 lb braid on two bait casters and don't experience problems you describe.
  3. I agree with flyfisher. I own the Native Ultimate and love the stability, storage, etc. A hybrid, too, without scuppers. Not an issue to me, and I've fished some choppy waters. If it matters to have scuppers, then by all means go for it. Another yak to consider is the Moken Angler. A number of reviews on the web. It can be stood in to fish, has a built in wheel for portage. I looked at one before I went with my Ultimate 12.
  4. My bc's are 7.1:1, I use them for everything, just change my reeling cadence if needed. Like the rapid retrieve when I want to bring it in fast. Actually, do have a 6.4:1 but hardly ever use it.
  5. If there was a possibility that I had a state record, I'd like to have it verified, certified, etc. Bass Pro is close enough that the fish could, if handled properly, plenty of O2, etc., be released in their tank. I was told a local fisherman caught an 11+ pounder out of Harwood's Mill, had it certified at a local shop, but in the transport to BPS, the fish died. Not sure it was taken care of in the process. If one wants to CPR the fish, then by all means! I don't eat bass, strictly CPR for me, so if there was a way to keep it alive and certify it, I'd do it.
  6. First, welcome, Adam. I hear what you're saying. Some are definitely comfortable compared to others. My Shimano Compre rods are some of the most comfortable rods I own. Love the cork, the diameter of the handle, and the notched out spot for my index finger. I suppose it is a "to each his/her own" type of thing. Perhaps it is something gotten used to.

    Welcome and cheers!
  8. Awesomely cool.
  9. Not yet, really need to check the webisodes as I don't get the Outdoor Channel.
  10. If it works, holds up and doesn't slip, it is good! Could also try the Palomar for a simple knot.
  11. I'll assume he's using 10lb Power Pro which has 2 lb diameter. If you want the UL challenge you can use Nanofil as Hooligan suggests, or a smaller diameter braid. Say 5 or 8 lb test. Fine to use for UL, but I actually use it for bass fishing...
  12. Welcome, Jeff!

  14. ESPN 2 says "Fishing" at 9, but it was Sports Center. Grrr. I like Sports Center, but wanted to watch the Classic.
  15. Glory The Patriot Guns of Navarrone Victory (okay, technically not "war" more a combo of war and soccer/futbol) Probably others I just can't think of right now.
  16. Seriously nice boat.
  17. Sounds like a pretty good combo you've ended up with. The BPS Pro Qualifier has 600+ reviews, mostly 4 or 5 star, and that's pretty good. Veritas is a nice, light rod. I think you've done well.
  18. Very curious, indeed. Was this baitcaster pre-spooled? Or did you do it yourself? If prespooled, I'd suggest buying some line yourself and spooling it on - or if you bought it at a BPS, take it in, buy some line and they'll spool it on for you.
  19. Buddy and I spent couple hours at a local pond. Me? Skunked. Him? Couple bass, almost 4 lbs total. Me?
  20. Bob Feller (anybody remember him?! First 100mph pitcher) Jim Kelly Randy White Derek Harper A bunch of sports stars too numerous to remember, got the sigs in my memory chest.

I did a search, and you're right. Dadgum! Will have to see how it sorts out, but still. This is big.

    Wha?!
  23. I like YZH, too, but let me suggest P-Line Floroclear in 6-15 lb tests. I know some of the folks here have had bad experiences with it, but in 3 years of using the mist green in various sizes, I've had zero issues with breakage except where I was snagged and force-broke the line. I think it fishes a little better than YZH. My .02.
