Well they gotta get a rating somehow. You could be the first . Me? I look for 97.7 ratings and above, preferably 100%, as we all probably prefer. You can always email the seller in hopes to get a "vibe", but as @jimmyjoe said, trust your spidey-sense/gut.

Have a 1000 FK and CI4+. The CI4+ just *feels* more refined, the bail mechanism *feels* crisper, and of course the weight savings are big.

I use 1000 size Stradics, but out of your budget for brand new. Daiwa's new LT reels are getting rave reviews online, sizing is great, as well, they're smaller form factor than previous gen models. If i were in the market today I'd take a very hard look at the LT models. Also used Daiwa and Pflueger. I'd rank Daiwa and Shimano as best, Pflueger is a good value, but as said above, geometry is a little different.

I fish Ned on different setups, but mostly on 5'9" or 6' spinning rods. Current fav for Ned is my 5'9" (cut from 6') St. Croix Premier along with a 1000 Shimano Stradic CI4+, 15# Power Pro SS8 and varying leaders, either 6 or 8# Gamma Edge fluoro, or Yo Zuri Hybrid. Also varies for me. I've got 6 colors of the TRDs and have caught on all, with maybe mudbug, Junebug, and GP Orange the tops. Getting set to try the CrawZ in watermelon red and Junebug. Yes yes yes. Great for leader material. I use mainly 6, 8, 10, but have gone up to 15 and down to 4. They all work very well. I did have one mishap, probably 6 years ago with a fresh 10# leader, no nicks or anything. It snapped on a bass I never got to see. Was a very strong fight, likely a big 'un . Lost confidence in the line for quite a few years, but since regained.

I run a TM powered Native Ultimate 12 which is a hybrid kayak/canoe. Built the setup myself using a Minn Kota C2 30, running cables to my foot pedals, and I use a variable power module giving "infinite" forward and reverse. The folks at https://www.wirelesstrollingpro.com/ are fantastic to deal with, and make a great product that is finding more and more popularity among kayak anglers. Found this company out through YouTuber called Aksman - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnl__DThu7j5W32-_8BFzkw/videos You might find his videos interesting. As well, I do not sit low in my kayak, rather, I built a platform to raise my seat to the gunnels of my U12. Yes it makes it a bit tippier, though I have never capsized it, and I also stand and fish every outing. There are kayaks that are wider and more comfortable to stand in, but they will weigh more.

I will say that I've handled the CI4+ 2500 and 3000 in store and given how small and light they are, I wouldn't have a problem owning them. @Brad Reid, I like that rod, do you have the L or M power? My current fav is the Premier 6' MLF which I purposely shortened to 5'9". Just prefer shorter rods.

Huge fan of the 1000s (2) 1000 FIs, (1) FJ, (1) FK, (1) CI4+ The CI4+ is by far my favorite. Have caught so many bass over the years on these with L, ML, M, MH power rods. I prefer 1000 size over all others and have zero issues using them for bass. They are *more* than capable, and I even use them for striper fishing from my yak.

I use Zman's weedless jigs. They work for me, though I do find the wire a *tad* stiff. I've caught bluegill on them, though, so I don't think the wire is a real issue. Have also bought regular Zman Ned jigs and tied a strand of 40# mono leader. A little tedious since there's not a lot of room to tie, but they have worked well for me.

I dunno either But I'm not surprised one thing works for someone but not another. Got a buddy who swears by bubblegum senkos, trick worms and all that at HWM. Never caught one on that color myself. So go figger.
