Yo-Zuri Hybrid is an excellent line, smaller diameters for spinning, and 12# an "all-around" for casting... It is a great leader to attach to braided line. I use braid for mainline on every one of my reels. Just how I roll. I feel it manages better, especially on spinning gear. And using YZH (and other lines) as leader, I am able to keep my braided mainline for longer periods, cutting it less thanks to having a leader.

Kayak customization is a personal thing, i.e., making it how you like it. So everyone suggesting you spend time fishing out of it first is spot on. Then you will have a better idea of where you like things. Things such as - "hey, I would rather put my rod in a holder here, as opposed to there, where company X installed it".... YouTube is a great place, as are just googling and looking at kayak mod images. And welcome aboard, @hisjr!

Welcome aboard! What price range? I'm a fan of St. Croix, BPS Carbonlites, older Shimano Compre rods. The most expensive rod I have is a St. Croix Legend Tournament - a great rod. I like MXF and MHF for "heavier" TX rigs, generally what the rod specs mention for weights. Also use ML for lighter rigs.

Prefer sub-6'6" rods myself, and 1000 size reels. However, a 3000 President should balance well with a 7' rod.

Good topic. There was a span of time when I let the Bait Monkey hop on my back with abandon. But I have endeavored to be content with what I have. Not that contentment is always...content. As for baits, like others, I do not throw every technique in the book, therefore, I do not need all manner of baits. So at this point I pretty much top off what I'm running low on be it terminal tackle, line, baits.

While I haven't handled these reels, I've looked at the specs. The "standard" for bass fishing is a 2500 size reel. But this doesn't mean we can't deviate from that standard and do just fine. I use 1000 size Stradics as my "standards". Personally I think I'd pick the 30 size, and primarily because it is lighter. Either will perform well, and if you picked the 40 you'd be in good company with an FLW Pro that uses 4000 size spinning reels for his arsenal. For what it's worth.
