  1. Prefer sub-6'6" rods myself, and 1000 size reels. However, a 3000 President should balance well with a 7' rod.

    likewise!
  3. Good topic. There was a span of time when I let the Bait Monkey hop on my back with abandon. But I have endeavored to be content with what I have. Not that contentment is always...content. As for baits, like others, I do not throw every technique in the book, therefore, I do not need all manner of baits. So at this point I pretty much top off what I'm running low on be it terminal tackle, line, baits.
  4. Splendid report, congrats, and continued success!
  5. While I haven't handled these reels, I've looked at the specs. The "standard" for bass fishing is a 2500 size reel. But this doesn't mean we can't deviate from that standard and do just fine. I use 1000 size Stradics as my "standards". Personally I think I'd pick the 30 size, and primarily because it is lighter. Either will perform well, and if you picked the 40 you'd be in good company with an FLW Pro that uses 4000 size spinning reels for his arsenal. For what it's worth.
  6. No can help, but welcome to the site, Mike!
  7. Sweet muskie! And on a 10# leader, too! Nicely done.

    Welcome aboard!
  9. Funny, sad, yum, and true (the shirt), and not in that order. And yes, Caledonia was a long ride. To fend off boredom, I think I found maybe 20 or 30 different routes for the commute. But was hard to avoid the interstate.
  10. We dodged a bullet here in the middle Peninsula; however, just north of us in Williamsburg, a few inches. My eldest had to drive to work up there as the temps dropped, lots of cars spun out due to slick conditions along the Colonial Parkway. Another son out near Farmville said they got over 12". And @J Francho, I absolutely hated the commute to Rochester back when I worked downtown in the 90s. I remember days driving home (Caledonia) and the sun was directly in my eyes on 490, and the road was a sheet of ice. I loved the summers, but hated the winters. Potholes big enough to swallow Ford Fiestas, LOL. But yeah, unless an act of God intervened, not even skating rink highways stopped the commute.
  11. Welcome aboard! Your best answer is ^^^ from @J Francho. I looked at these years ago, ended up going the kayak way. but these would have been better when my boys were younger....

Welcome aboard, Gary! Cardiovascular sport of bass fishing, eh? I'd have thought rock climbing was more-so. At least for me, my heart would be pumping overtime in fear of heights, LOL.
  16. Welcome aboard!
  17. Welcome aboard! Depending on where you are in VA, there are some places that will carry higher end rods. Bishop's Bait & Tackle comes to mind, in Yorktown on Rte 17, though he does mostly saltwater business.
  18. Welcome aboard!
  19. Welcome aboard! Ned rig is always worth a try
  20. Yup. You got that right. I've had that happen a few times, so I got VERY observant and always leave at least one top latch shut when I'm out on the water...bottom is closed most of the time.
  21. That's excellent! Congrats!
  22. I've been all over the map in terms of this topic. Backpacks, worm bags, "regular" tackle boxes, utility boxes, and so forth. I currently use a Plano Guide Series box for freshwater, something similar for salt. That said, I am ALWAYS looking for more efficient methods. I *almost* went with what @Catt and @J Francho like. That may be on my radar in 2019 to try out. I really like BPS's utility boxes for senko and other soft plastic storage....
