  1. not sure how a vibrax would work on bass, but up here i kill the silvers (coho salmon) and king salmon on them. probably would work on lunkers though
  2. i have the megaforce on the tierra rod and it works perfectly for me (topwater and soft plastics). just my two cents
  3. HOLY!!!! dude that's a copious amount! Silverbullet 32
  4. where i live we have alot of salmon (kings, humpies, and silvers) and steelhead rivers, i live in washington state btw, and alot of the old timers use it for scent. it actually does work. but i dont think enviromentalists would like it so much
  5. thanks to all of you who have gave me advice along with great topwater lures. can i catch bass in cold water/ spring weather?
  6. thanks for the advice guys! my rod/reel setup is a daiwa megaforce with 7.1:1 gears (i love the high speed), 303 tuf-line casting braid, and a 6'6" mh rod, soon to be replaced with a 7' rod. thanks again!
  7. hey everyone, i really, really, really, really, really want to catch my first topwater bass. i know a guy that fishes jitterbugs at night, but my boat isn't set up for night fishing. i have a couple topwater plugs i made, i also have some buzzbaits and a topwater frog. soon i will be getting a couple spro frogs (a black one and a green one) and i'm also gonna get the cabela's frog kit. i dont really have too much confidence in topwater (same with jigs and for the same reason) because i haven't even got a hit from topwater yet. just wondering how many of you felt the same way and ended up catching topwater bass.any advice would be great too. thanks! LJ
  8. well i set out and tried it on my current baitcaster rod, just a berkely el cheapo. it actually came out better than i thought and only took me about 20 minutes all said and done. the pic below with the cork grip is my buddy's that he did today in about the same amount of time. and i gotta post up the megaforce haha Man, your foam grip one looks great. Looks like it shaped nicely.good Job! thanks! i appreciate the confidence boost! haha. i coulda got it a little better but i dont really care, it looks fine and serves its purpose
  9. ok thanks for your sharing your knowledge. my father bought this boat about 20 years for 300 bucks and it came with a grand new evinrude 6hp with no paint even chipped off the flywheel teeth! wroks as a great trolling boat. im gonna try and find a wider-style semi-v jon boat. thanks everyone! LJ
  10. i know exactly what you mean. last summer i found fly tying and i enjoyed it very very much, but doing it everyday for a good amount of time lost my interest. i also jumped right into fly fishing but used my dad's old fly pole. fly fishing is very fun but pretty frustrating at times. my advice: everyone should try it atleast once, both panfishing/bassin' and trout fishin'. also, fly tying is a good time waster and doesnt cost alot of money. just my two cents! LJ
  11. Getting backlash out is a bit easier for me anyway. Just watch the weight of the baits you throw, that reel isn't going to do well with light baits. yep i do all my worms and smaller soft plastics with spinning gear. it's just unbbelieveable how the pros just quickly whip their rod using a tiny crankbait or worm, and get distance and no bird's nest
  12. last year it was 4" TR power worms in tequila sunrise, but that's about all i knew how to catch bass on lol
  13. well i went to the local tackle shop today and picked up some tuf-line in 30#. this stuff casts very good and is very round! im very happy with my $15.14 purchase, haha. here is a pic of it spooled up on my megaforce thanks for the help guys!
  14. well i set out and tried it on my current baitcaster rod, just a berkely el cheapo. it actually came out better than i thought and only took me about 20 minutes all said and done. the pic below with the cork grip is my buddy's that he did today in about the same amount of time. and i gotta post up the megaforce haha
  15. brush hogs work very nicely on top, but i would reccomend hardbaits too, such as zara spooks and jitterbugs, or hollow body frogs like the bronzeyes from spro LJ
  16. shallow suspending crankbaits, jigs, and almost any soft plastics should do the trick. Good Luck and Happy Birthday! LJ
  17. i have the megaforce, and the twitchin' bar was the selling point for me. i wouldnt take it off even if i wasnt gonna use it. totaly out of the way. works very well for jigs and workin plastics slowwwww
  18. shimano sienna and a north x northwest 6' light action rod. it's my trout gear and i love the combo
  19. i thought about doing something like that. dont worry, you arent wasting my time thanks LJ
  20. ok thanks. this reel is brand new lol. i do just fine until i lose my focus and whip the rod and then i get a bird's nest lol
  21. can this be done with foam grips? i want to try it on a cheap rod before i just go full ahead on an expensive rod lol thanks LJ
  22. keep the center of gravity low and you should be fine. i dont know about that boat, but my v-hull has styro-foam underneath the seats, and i would not advise to remove that. if you flipped your boat, that foam is the only hope you have to keep it afloat. my 12' v-hull is a little on the tippy side, but i stood while my friend sat, and that worked out well. good luck! LJ
  23. hey everyone! about two months ago i got my first baitcaster- daiwa megaforce. i sure love the high speed gear ratio and twitchin' bar. but as with all beginner bait caster users, i have experienced a fair share of bird's nests. im getting better at tuning in my brake for each lure, but i still get the occasional bird's nest. im going to be fishing in lily pads this season so im putting on braid, probably 30# to 50#. are bird's nests hard to get out with braid? what brand of braid do you reccomend? thanks LJ
