FINS windtamer braid
I myself have never tried it but I’m sure WRB(Tom) will chime in on this one. He’s spoke of fins braid before.

Are you brand loyal ?
Rods, no Reels, yes..only Japanese made Shimano’s that I’ve had for years. Cores, curado’s, citica’s and chronarch’s. Never even had a level wind pawl fail. They just work

Jig fishing: prefer braid or fluoro? Advantages of each?
15-20# fluro always for jigs..just like everyone says, can’t beat the slack line sensitivity.

Handle nut for Shimano reel...
Exactly right..once you cross thread the drive shaft threads, there is no do over, you’ve already rolled the threads.brass is soft metal. It might tighten up and you think you’re good but all it’s doing is tightening on the rolled threads and it will come loose again just like it did. Just like Phish said, new driveshaft and nut is the only thing that’s going to fix the problem.

Handle nut for Shimano reel...
Is it a left or right hand reel?

Handle nut for Shimano reel...
Unfortunately yes, you have to pretty much disassemble most of the reel. I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself if you’ve never worked on reels and on that curado mgl the idle gear is completely different the way it attaches unlike the K series. You have two small plastic pieces and two small springs. It’s very tegious putting those in without them becoming a projectile and you’d never see them again. Yes, a new nut will not fix your problem. You’re going to have to have a new drive shaft.

Handle nut for Shimano reel...
Very easy to cross thread, very fine threads.I just replaced a driveshaft on a curado Mgl and a bantam xg because client crossed threaded nuts on both of them.

Do you have an all time favorite fishing reel?
Chronarch 50mg, I have 6 of them that I've been using for years. I installed brass gears in two of them that I use for braid to be more durable

Official ICAST 2022 Post...
Yeah I don’t get it either, just like on the old red Cumara..I hate the nubs for grips..even my gen 1 Zodias rods I have were too short for me so I modified them.

Shimano vs. Lew's Reels
All I fish and have fished for years are the older Japanese made Shimano’s with VBS braking system. Set em and forget em. Chronarch 50 mg’s are my favorite..have 6 of them. Curado 100D/DSV’s are my next most used, have 5 of those. I’ve tried and don’t like the SVS system on the newer Shimano’s but to each their own.

Specific noise with my high end Shimanos
No doubt that is the drive and pinion gears meshing together.Nothing wrong, my Shimano’s do it, some louder than others. It don’t bother me.

Lb test for jigs?
Yes, it’s some tough stuff!

Brand new reel, drag is not right
When and if they exchange the reel, before you leave the store, tighten the star drag and hold thumb pressure on the spool while turning the handle. Handle should be tight turning it if the drag is working properly.

What is the absolute best steal of a deal you have ever gotten on fishing gear?
Chronarch 50 mg $20 7’ 2” mh Zodias casting rods $99 at academy sports. Didn’t even know they carried Zodias rods, found em in the crappie/panfish section. They had 4 and I bought all of them.

Need guidance on $200 rod.
What do you want for the Heavy Zodias? I’ve got 3 7’ 2” med/hvy and one medium and could use a heavy. Is it the 1st generation?

What is your lightest power bait casting combo?

Shimano Curado 100D/DSV parts
I’m also a reel tech, specializing in Shimano’s..It actually does have a brass drive shaft, I have 9 100D’s and 2 MG 50’s Cause that’s the platform I like to fish with. That reel is just a paperweight without the drive shaft though..threads are stripped is the problem at the nut and you can’t build it up with JB weld and retap cause of the way it’s designed. Any ideas are welcome.
