Deepest you have ever fished?
I rarely fish anything deeper than 20 feet, but I have fished in water up to 40 feet deep.

Kistler Helium LTA
I just got my first Kistler and I love it. I couldn't afford a Helium or Magnesium so I got a 7' Graphite Plus and man that thing kicks bass. It is extremely strong and sensitive and the quality is unmatched on any other rod I have owned, as for their warranty service I haven't had any problems so I'm not sure what their customer service is like..

jigs for big fish in winter waters
Bass Magnet, by supercold I mean 40 degrees or lower. However, a hair jig will catch fish in any water temp but they really shine during the cold months.

Jigs
I always have a 3/8oz. black/blue jig tied on for flipping and pitching. I can make that jig as heavy or as light as I want, by that I mean I can increase or decrease the rate of fall very easily. If I am fishing in 3' of water and I want a slow fall then I'll take that 3/8oz. jig and add a big bulky floating trailer to it, and depending on the conditions I might even add another skirt. Now if I'm fishing 10' of water and want that jig to get down then I will trim the skirt to the length of the hook and thin out the skirt, I'll also add a small profile trailer like a small craw or grub. Using these modifications I could make a 1/4oz. fall like a bullet and a 3/8oz. jig slowly glide through the water. Jigs are some of the most versatile baits out there and with a little tweaking you can make them do whatever you want.

bass tracker boat question?
I have a 1996 Tracker Pro 17 with a Mercury Tracker 40 (a little underrated I think) and I've had it up to 38mph with 3 people, a full tank, and lots of tackle. With just me in it it'll cruise pretty good around 45. Also, this boat had a large front and back deck which make it easy to fish out of, my only complaint is it doesn't have enough storage space. But like dizzy said, go for the biggest and fastest boat you can get you'll be very pleased if you do.

Color?
I'm looking to get a new depthfinder and I've been looking at the Lowrancw X96, but a few people now have suggested I go with a color unit. However, I can't really affors anything over maybe $300. So I am looking for a quality color unit for under $300, anybody got anything? Also what are some advantages of a color unit? Thank you.

jigs for big fish in winter waters
In the winter I always trim back the skirts on all the jigs I use. This is to achieve a more subtle finesse profile to the fish but keep sufficient weight to get the jig to the bottom. I trim the skirt so it is even with the shank of the hook and in clear water situations I thin the skirt out. For trailers I mostly use a small ZOOM chunk or a plastic craw like a GYCB Baby Craw. Also, don't overlook hair jigs in the winter. Hair jigs are deadly in supercold water because the natural hair fibers flare out and "breathe" to make the perfect profile of a craw or baitfish. For colors I mainly use white, white/chart., black/brown, and orange/brown. I tie my own most of the time but I suggest getting some Punisher hair jigs. http://www.punisherjigs.com/

Curado reels
The "almost gold" one you are talking was probably a Curado BSF. The SF stands for Super Free, it was basically an old curado with a ported spool and a metal braking knob.

Zoom TRICK WORMS!?
There are many ways to fish a trick worm, but here are some of my most productive techniques. In Spring and summer I like to rig it weightless on a 3/0 wide gap hook and throw it around shallow cover. I let it sink slowly and then twitch it. I also fish the worm on a shakey head rig. Most of the time I use a 1/4oz. jighead and I rig the worm weedless on the jighead. But if you fish this rig be sure to bite about a 1/2inch section off the head of the bait, this is so the head is thicker and flatter, which makes it easier to put oon the jighead. Another good way to fish the trick worm is on a drop-shot. I tie a drop-shot rig with a 1/0 or 2/0 light wire straight shank hook. I rig the worm weedless on the rig and throw it around deep structure. One other to use it that is very effective is on a split-shot rig. A split-shot rig is basically a finesse carolina rig, take 3 split-shot and put them about 12-15 inches above a 2/0 or 3/0 hook. Rig the worm weedless and work this rig just like a carolina rig. Hope this helps

Life is far from over up North
Just because we're from the south doesn't mean we've never seen snow before. We get at least one good snow here in VA every year, except for last year >.

Yum Buzzfrog
YUM did a terrible job with the Buzz Frog IMO. All of them either have some plastic deformity or don't run right, you should try dropping the YUM's and getting some Stanley Ribbits. Ribbits are the best frogs out there, they have a killer action and they float so you can buzz them as slow as you want without worrying about it going down http://www.***.com/descpageSOFTSTAN-SBR.html#

I've got good news and bad news.
I hear ya man, I wounded a doe over thanksgiving. I shot her a little to high above the shoulder with a .308 and we never found her. Think she might have hid on some big rocks on the other side of the mountain but it was way to steep to go search for her

What bait was your largest bass caught on?
7.4lbs caught on a white 1/2oz. buzzbait.
-
hair bass
Yes you can. They work especially well in very cold water , 45 degrees or less. Try throwing them around deep rockpiles or ledges and give it slow dragging/hopping retrieve. Hope this helps.

Chickahominy Lake
I have a pic of the fish but it aint digital . But the fish was 4.53lbs. and 20.5 inches long so it was a little on the skinny side but still a nice fish especially for Chick lake.

your dream lures
I already have my dream lure. A good ole fashioned black/blue jig, I prefer the Persuader 3/8oz. version. This thing will catch fish anywhere, anytime I ALWAYS have one tied on.

New to fishing jigs
Most of my jig fishing is done either flipping and pitching in shallow water or casting around deep structure. For flipping and pitching I always look for very thick cover, logjams, weeds, matted grass etc. and relatively shallow water, no deeper than 5' and no shallower than 10". Once I have ound these things I fish the cover very slowly, making several pitches to the same spot, and mix up my retrieve until I get bit. For tackle I use either a 7' Medium Heavy Kistler or a 7' Heavy Daiwa rod and either 50lb. braid or 25lb. fluorocarbon depending on the water clarity. For a jig I mostly use a 3/8oz. black/blue jig with a black/blue ZOOM super chunk trailer. When casting around deeper structure I use either a 1/2oz. or a 3/4oz. football jig and a twin tail grub trailer. Basically I fish this anywhere you would fish a carolina rig, deep breaks, offshore humps, deep brushpiles, etc. I use a specific techniqur for this, after casting it out I let it fall and pop it off the bottom with a sharp jerk of the rodtip, known as stroking a jig. If that doesn't work then I employ a swimming retrieve. After casting it out I let it hit bottom and then start burning back to the boat, however you must maintain bottom contact so don't reel it to fast. Hope this helps

Chickahominy Lake
Launched from Eagles Landing down at Chick. Lake on saturday. It was a little chilly in the morning, around 40 degrees, but it warmed up and turned out to be a great day for fishin. After launching we went straight down to Walker's Dam and fished the seawalls with shakey Head rigs and Bandit 200 series crankbaits. After fishin there fer a while we headed back to a cove across from Johnson creek and fished a row of Cypress trees. On about my third pitch with the good ole Persuader 3/8oz. black/blue jig I felt a tap and set the hook, the fish took off and made a few runs before burying in the grass, I pulled in a nice 4 1/2lber. We fished for the next 5 hours without a single bite, we tried everything from throwing jerkbaits on weedlines, rooting crankbaits around the trees, and even a splitshot rig. Finally right before we left i got a nice little keeper on a white spinnerbait from a logjam. We weighed the fish at the landing and it came in at 4.53lbs. It was the biggest fish caught from the lake the whole day and it will be featured in the fishing report in the paper and woods and waters magazine
