  1. Never thrown a robo on a carolina rig, they are however some of the best drop-shot worms out there...
  2. Any nonkeeper, which is anything under 14" around here
  3. 1. Drive the steel home 2. Whack'im 3. Hit'im And my personal favorite, "LEAN BACK" And the hookset is usually followed by a simple "Fish" or "got him"
  4. Good suggestions, however, nobody seems to have mentioned one of the deadliest tactics for this time of year...The drop-shot. I have caught more and bigger fish on the drop-shot than I have on anything else this time of year, I just tie it up with a 2/0 Owner offset worm hook, about a 7-inch leader, a 1/4-3/8oz weight depending on the current, and either a ZOOM finesse worm or a Reaction Innovations Flirt worm. I mainly fish tidal rivers so I target steep banks with heavy wood cover on high tide, and then on low tide I back off and target the first drop-off into slightly deeper water. Once I find the right cover I throw it out there and lightly shake it in place for about 30 seconds, then I hop it and shake it for another 30 seconds, then I reel it up and throw it right back to the same spot 3 or 4 more times. They key here is not only to fish slow, but to make multiple casts to the same area...My biggest smallmouth out of the Pamunkey river was a 3-3 (which is huge for the pamunkey) and it came on my sixth cast to a ledge with my drop-shot rig... Winter fishing can pay off big time, you just have t be willing to fish very slow but cover water at the same time.
  5. I'm only 16 and I'm 6'2" 175lbs. and I just go to Tractor Supply to get all my clothes and Carhartt workwear. I like Carhartt stuff because it seems like it lasts forever, and I need that because I work on a couple farms throughout the year and the work is very tough on clothes... I actually have a pair of carhartt jeans that have lasted me 3 whole years of farm work.
  6. The day a Largemouth Bass goes dormant is the day I quit fishing...They still have to eat, not as much because the cold water slows their metabolism, but they still have to eat and will be actively feeding at some point throughout the day. Bass will suspend at different depths in the water column, but never will a Bass go "dormant"
  7. 4" ZOOM finesse worm on a drop-shot rig...
  8. Well I've been pretty busy with conditioning lately, but hopefully I'll get at least one day on the water this weekend... And I'm pretty sure ole T9 aint been fishin in a loooong time, haha ;D
  9. Yeah, it specifically refers to a jig with a Pork chunk trailer but its also a general term for any jig with a trailer
  10. Like Fourbizz said, as soon as I get bit, I really lean into that fish as hard as I can. A quick snap-set won't get the job done, you have to really put your whole body into it and drive that hook into the fish's mouth.
  11. I actually play ball year round, in the offseason I practice and play with an AAU team and in the fall I play on our school's wood-bat team. And what we are doing isn't an "official" practice, its just me and a couple other guys that go down to the field and workout to get ready for the start of the season in mid-february.
  12. hmm, I'll have to try that. Thanks Dan!
  13. I hear ya hookem, i love it to... but tell ya what, aint nothin like taking infield during a snow shower haha. We went down to the field this afternoon and it was snowing pretty good, got a lot of honks from people drivin by. I guess they were just amazed to see kids playing baseball in the snow ;D
  14. Wow, talk about a serious slap to the face. I used to have the utmost respect for BASS and its youth program, mainly because I wanted to go to the Jr. Classic, but not anymore. I guess thats another reason to be happy that my club is a TBF/FLW affiliated club...
  15. Exactly what I'm thinking, but knowing the guys at Greentop they will probably place an order soon.... hopefully
  16. I guess that's a valid excuse... CONGRATS!!!!!!!
  17. A couple of my buddies and me went down to the field after school for our first pre-season workout and gooood Lawd am I feelin it.. 1 mile warm-up run, long toss, infield drills, base running, bull-pens, polls, sprints, and ab workouts... But what can I expect, its always hard to get back into the swing of things when you haven't worked out in over 2 months ;D
  18. It's ok, you are not alone...I am also affected by this horrible (and very expensive) condition I frequent several rivers around here with my trusty 5-weight, mostly in the summertime though cuz wading is out of the question this time of year and its easier to catch em on conventional stuff. But,in the summertime when I do most of my flyfishing, I have 3 main patterns that are very effective on smallmouth and are pretty much the only flies I use for em... The first is a Dahlburg Diver, an extremely effective topwater bug that when stripped hard dives under the surface and works like a popper. The second is my hand-tied Clouser minnows, I tie them with bucktail and marbou to give it a little more action in the fast flowing water. And the third is also hand-tied by me, a woolly bugger type flie with a long rabbit fur tail and flashabou tied in around the body.
  19. wow man, nice fish and beautiful river!
  20. Around the fifth or sixth fish i swore he was gonna throw me out of the boat haha ;D
  21. Gooood Lawd man, you got em dialed in over there 8-)

4" finesse worm on a drop-shot rig, homemade 5/16oz finesse jig, and LC Pointer 100 jerkbait. Those are my 3 top producing winter baits.
  23. Dang man yall lucked out over there, I am not impressed with our new Gander Mountain to say the least...
  24. eh, most of the baits and colors look like garbage IMO...
  25. I love Persuader jigs and spinnerbaits, but I dont buy into this whole "E chip" thing....
