  1. The entire lake will probably be muddy for the next couple of days due to all the storms we have had. They will be moving a lot of water. Stay safe.
  2. The way I did points was: Attendance to meetings -10 Fishing a tournament -25 Fishing a regional -50 Participating in Conservation Work -50 Having a guest speaker to teach -50 Finishing top 15 regional-25 Finishing top 10 regional-50 Finishing top 5 regional-75 Finishing 1st regional-100 Lunker in regional tournament -100 because this qualifies you for state
  3. I have 5 boat captains. The problem is we only qualified 3 boats for the state tournament. This is our first year and figuring things out as we go. I thought if you qualified in a regional tournament with 5 boats that is what you carried to state. However, they take the least amount of boats in any of the 3 regional tournaments you had to fish. I have 10 anglers. I can only use 6 in the state tournament. Based on the point system my top 2 boats are set. However, my 3rd and 4th boat tied with points based on how it's set up. 1 boat fished all the tournaments to accumulate their points. The other boat won a regional tournament My 5th boat did not accumulate enough points. If I use total weight as a tie breaker the boat that fished less but won a tournament goes. However, I do not want to discredit the fact the other students fished more. All the students who tied are 8th and 7th graders. I don't like to draw names because it has nothing to do with fishing. I thought about having a fish off between the 3rd and 4th boat. Winner gets to fish in state.
  4. We have a high school club that has 10 members. We qualified 3 boats for the state tournament in 2 weeks. I have a points system setup and I have 4 anglers tied with the same amount of points. 2 of the anglers have fished more tournaments to accumulate their points. 2 anglers have fished less but they finished 1st in a regional tournament to accumulate most of their points. What is the fairest way to choose the anglers and coanglers? I am trying to be as fair as possible. Any ideas. Thanks
  5. Was on Wilson 3 days the past week. Water temp was 63 on main lake Friday and yesterday it was 69. The water was not muddy but it was stained up more than normal. I never left the main river that much so I do not know what the temps are in the creeks. I caught some fish that was prespawn and I caught some that already spawned out. All phases should still be going on. There are only a few places that are dangerous to run. Be careful around Hog Island, mouth of Bluewater creek, inside Town creek, and between the towers and the North bank below Wheeler dam. Probably a few more that I can not think of right now. Good Luck to you guys..
  6. I like to use Carolina Keepers instead of a swivel and bead. It is a cylinder that you can squeeze and run your line through. It eliminates the swivel and an extra knot. Sometimes they will slide down if using a heavier weight. I slide on my weight, then my carolina keeper to the desired leader length, and finally tie one knot at the hook.
  7. I have a 96 Mariner 150 HP EFI. I have been running Mercury synthetic oil for the last 2 seasons. The cheapest I have found this oil is $27 per gallon. Would it be a problem to switch to a different brand? What do you guys recommend? Thanks
  8. I have a an older bac rac system and I love it. It is on a 1996 Nitro 190. I will try to take a picture and post it on here.
  9. Thanks.
  10. Pretty sure the water is not muddied up right now. I am going in the morning to Wilson so I will give everyone a report.
  11. A tip for you guys. If you put in at Safety Harbor DO NOT park your truck and trailer in the parking spots under the trees. Park out in the middle of the parking lot. The buzzards are bad about eating the weather stripping around your front windshield.
  12. If any of you guys know how to fish in the tailraces I would be throwing a swimbait. A lot of the bigger fish on WIlson come from up that way.
  13. Wish I would have signed up to attend. I hope y'all have a good time. I will be fishing Wilson during a few of those days so maybe I will see some of you out that way.
  14. I have an old Navionics Card southeast. I need another card for the front depth finder I have. I was told that I could purchase the update version of Navionics as long as my card was a legit card and download the new info on a SD card. Will this work? Should I just buy a new card and be done with it? I am only interested in premium version. Thanks

I am wanting a rubber style net that I can use if I am by myself. Which one do you guys recommend?
  16. I had 2 blue tops running my 24 volt system. They lasted me for some time. However, 1 of them always went out before the other one and it seemed like I needed to buy 2 anyway. This last time I purchased Deka Marine batteries and they are lasting all day so far. I went with them because my fishing partner has had good luck with them. He purchased the Sears Diehard battery for his cranking and all his low voltage issues have gone away. I have had the walmart batteries and I know people like them on here, however I would not buy one of them again.
  17. I have had numerous rods in the $100 or less range. I have broke all types except for one, the older Houston, Texas version of the Allstar classic is still in service for me. I have 3 of them that I use every week. Not sure about the newer ones though. I tried a newer Allstar ASR series that I did not like. I am a huge fan of Lew's reels. I have not used their rods yet but I am about to try some to see how I like those.
  18. Humminbird 859ci HD DI Combo vs lowrance elite 7 hdi Anyone have any experience with either of these units?
  19. I had the mettle for over a year when one day fishing a tournament the side cover broke off and fell in the water. I carried it back to academy and they gave me a brand new one with no questions asked. I am pretty rough on all of my stuff. I have 2 of them and plan on getting more. They are solid little reels.
  20. Sunline fx2 My experience. I have used braid on a lot of techniques for a few seasons. I have tried power pro, sunline fx2, berkley power braid, samurai, suffix, suffix 832, spider wire, and viscous. I had really bad luck with samurai last year and will not go back. My favorite is Sunline fx2. I am in the process of switching all my braid setups to this line. Regular Power pro would be my 2nd choice. I will not use any of the other brands again.
  21. Thanks. I misunderstood him. He has external with 998 and internal with 598. I was afraid it would not work.
  22. I have a friend who wants me to set up his Humminbird units to share waypoint data. He has a 998 with an internal antenna at the console and a 598 unit at the trolling motor. Will the interlink system work between these two units? Also, will he need to purchase an additional external GPS antenna?
  23. That is what my friend was told as well. I was trying to help him fix his system. It is fixed now. It will allow you to hit waypoint on the head unit and it instantly saves it to the older front LMC 520c unit. We used the lowrance network starter kit and 1 additional t connector. The main thing is you have to wire the backbone to have its own power source.
  24. It works now that I ran a network through nmea2000. I was told from multiple sources that it would not work. I contacted lowrance and they said it would work through ethernet. It requires nmea2000.
  25. I have purchased 2 different ones from Walmart that had a 5 year warranty. They do not hold up at all. I will buy a $20 tarp the next time.
