  1. I've been fishing with Booyah frogs for the last couple of seasons and can't believe how well they hold up......i've been fishing a private 80 acre lake loaded with grass and nice size bass this year....you can usually catch about 20 bass or more fishing a full day with most being between 3lbs and up to 6lbs. I started thinking the other day that i've been using the same Booyah Poppin Pad Crasher for about the last 4 trips i've had to the lake and the darn thing is still going strong. Still looks good, barely takes on water and the hooks are still pretty sharp. Way to go Booyah.....great quality at a great price. Here's one of the Pad Crasher Bass I caught on Thursday August 24th.
  2. I'll have to try a couple.....Glenn, sorry about your Poe RC3's breaking.....i still have 5 that are basically brand new.
  3. yep...i used to be the same way.....and people always said the jig would get bigger fish....and now that i use them a lot....that seems to be true....biggest fish in my tournaments have been from pitching a jig.
  4. Here are a few reasons for those extremely long rods: 1. To sell more rods....there will be a couple of pros who will be using them and will say "without having that 9.5 ft rod there is no way i would have caught those fish" 2. To bring in more patients for physical therapy.....a.k.a. fisherman's elbow / chiropractor / etc.... 3. To increase boat sales...longer boats with longer rod lockers 4. Can also be used as push poles in shallow water I can pitch and flip with a 7'3" or a 7'6" all day...anything longer and heavier....not for me.
  5. wow.....no contest.....and never an issue? ummm...this is from Quantum...which apparently is admitting that there has been an issue (which i have personally witnessed) ....this is from their website and from the new Series 3: e “Achilles Heel” of many baitcast reels is a poorly designed thumbar system that creates reliability problems. Our newest design features a stainless steel kick lever that will not wear out and we’ve added an anti-corrosion barrier plate between the frame and kick lever system to eliminate sticking issues created from saltwater corrosion..... And like you, i have worked on reels for years...and I have witnessed Abu reels with worn kick levers, indentations so bad the lever wouldn't reset the clutch. Just observations...no big deal.
  6. Yep....which is good on that part.....but how about those Shimano spinning reel friction rings? Mega failure....but every company has their problems at some point.
  7. Hey guys, How many of you have a reels in the past fail due to a worn kick lever? I have had so many that it has always made me wonder why manufacturers didn't upgrade the part to stainless steel...(probably because they want them to wear out so if you can't get a replacement part you have to buy a new reel) Well, finally Quantum has stepped up to the plate and will be making the kick lever out of stainless steel starting with the new Tour S3 and Smoke S3 models. Never been a huge Quantum guy but i might try these out. Seems like they are making a lot of higher end upgrades and keeping the reels within a decent price. I love me some durability.
  8. ummm....i actually have a very nice copy of that book.....i was looking on amazon and other sites....i can't believe its worth that much...but it is written by a PhD from Berkley....the fishing company.....interesting.
  9. Hey guys, I've been using the new P-Line Tactical Fluorocarbon for the last month and have to say that so far this is very good line. I've always been a Seaguar fluoro guy but i wouldn't be afraid to change to this at all. It is very limp and strong. Haven't had any issues with it on 3 different setups. And they had a sale going on in April buy one get one free to get it out on the market. So far very impressed.
  10. I've had a couple of inconsiderate scoundrels do that to me before and only had one confrontation.....i settled down and left but said my peace. Last summer i was on the other side of a point that is covered with trees and a teenager on a jet ski came flying around the point and buzzed right beside me....but he really must not have seen me because all of a sudden he stopped and looked terrified and said "sir, i'm so sorry i just didn't see you in time to stay away from you...I thought holy crap, this kid gets it....so i told him i wasn't mad at all since he stopped and apologized. I told him that was good enough for me and told him to have fun. It was good to see that from a kid on a jet ski....apparently he had some parents that told him to respect the fishermen.
  11. Yep....bought two of the 2.0's......only fished with it once so far but casts a mile and is lighter and smaller frame than the original....should be a great reel.
  12. Retailers but not sure if it will be on their website....
  13. Fellers! Trust me on this.....In March, P-Line is going to run a sale on Tactical....buy one get one free as a way to get people to try it....big promotion.....i'm waiting on that deal to stock up.
  14. they are well worth $50.00...a total steal at that price.....check out Goose's 5 year Pro Qualifier study on this site and you will see that it is made to last a long time....and it casts very well....I fish higher end reels but i'm going tomorrow and pick up about 4 of them just because of the price....
  15. Oh yeah....we are getting robbed....but they are so pretty! We tackle hoarders can't help ourselves....it's kind of like the tobacco industry....get people hooked and they will continue to buy buy buy...no matter what they cost. I'm sure since most are made in China, they probably are being made by kids at pennies on the dollar so that the owners of the companies can make about an 80% profit margin off of a piece plastic, a couple of cheap hooks that you have to change out and a paint job that they act like Picasso painted. I mean at least Strike King cranks are priced halfway decent....but they are starting to go up too.....
  16. It's all about bearing placement. Shimano puts their bearings in the critical places to make the reel work to it's highest potential. A lot of reels have 2 or 4 bearings in the handle knobs which doesn't do anything for casting or retrieving. So the Shimano 6 bearing reel is just as good (probably better) than others 10 bearing reels. (ooppss, may have opened a can of worms with the probably better comment...lol)
  17. Like many of you guys, i have fished a lot of different brands of reels. I don't like the fact that some manufacturers press the anti-reverse bearing into the side plate. It's harder to find a side plate than it is another anti-reverse bearing if the reel is older. Do any of you consider this when buying a certain brand? Are hard hook sets the reason for these bearing failures or is it a combination of a hard hook set and the angler putting pressure on the handle at the same time? Just some thoughts. Would like your opinions. Thanks.
  18. If i see them do it, i just shoot them....tie on 2 cement blocks to their limbs....then drop the body off at a break point for fish cover....just kidding...but people who do that are pathetic. How hard is it to dump trash where it belongs.....lazy people.
  19. Yeah they are great reels but parts for the older greenies are getting harder to find....
  20. I've noticed on a couple of different sites that a lot of the Abu Garcia rods and reels are going for 20 to 25% off.....wonder if they are updating some of their lines or if they just have overstock?
  21. Hey Hootie, i think Goose is going to do another 5 year durability test on this new version.....just kidding Goose....but that first one was great.
  22. Hey guys, just saw that Bass Pro has a new version of the Pro Qualifier. 1.5 oz lighter than the original. Looks a little sleeker and updated which it needed to be. Same price though...that's good. May have to try one out.
  23. Hey guys.....I just want everyone else's feedback on what they think of reels around 6 oz or under. I've worked on and cast many times reels like the Daiwa Steez, Revo MGX and Lew's Tournament Lite Baitcasters and just don't like the feel of these reels....to me, just my opinion, they feel cheap....we all know there are not, but they just don't feel refined....i know the magnesium frames are expensive but the light weight just doesn't have that strong mechanical feel. Sure, they cast a mile but i need that feel when i'm retrieving a lure. I know during a long fishing day that lighter will make it easier to cast all day but i have to use reels no lighter that 6.5oz and up to 8.0 oz. What is your opinion?
  24. The Bass X line just now came out so the durability isn't known yet but since its St. Croix it will probably be very good. And they also have a 5 year warranty on those so you can't go wrong. I just ordered 2 myself. My buddy has a Vendetta and he likes it. I would probably go with the Bass X if i were you.
  25. Nice fish! I usually fish Geist and Morse....are you fishing a private lake or is it public? If public mind saying which lake that is?
