Lew's service
I'm mainly a Daiwa / Shimano / Abu guy but i've been working on my buddies reels and this is what i call excellent service. He has a Lew's BB1 Pro series reel and it was grinding very badly....so I took it apart and found a tooth had broken on the pinion gear and it had also ruined the main gear. So i called Lew's and explained what parts i was needing (it was out of warranty)...the guy told me that this is a known problem and that he would send me a new set of gears free of charge.....how many companies fess up that there is a known issue and actually try to take care of their customers? I know that there are some but others just try to let it slide by due to the costs of correcting the problem....auto industry for example...lived it, seen it...etc... I know that making any product can have issues but it's nice to know that there are companies that try to make things right. ....i didn't know about this issue so they could have charged me for the parts and i would have just purchased them....Thanks to Lew's for the good service.

Pro Qualifier vs Speed Spool LFS
I believe the new speed spool has a pinion bearing to support the gears' alignment....i don't think the PQ does but it's still a good reel....

Daiwa Tatula 100
I have 3 of them and really like them....for $99.00 that is a great deal....may pick up a couple of more for that price myself. I really like the 8.1 for pitching. Very smooth and solid.

New graphs too good for tournaments?
Maybe most guys will disagree with me on this but does anyone else think that the new fishfinders / graphs are almost too good for bass tournaments? I think it kind of takes away the fun to a certain point in finding fish with lures. You see on tv guys just dropping a bait down to the fish and watching them come up and hit their lure like a video game. I know that just because you find them it doesn't mean you will always catch them but it's a huge advantage and almost takes the fun out of it to a point. (unless you win money!) Give me your opinions on it.

I think it's the Russian's spying on how to catch Bass.

How do you navigate lakes with stumps?
1st you buy a brand new Ranger 21 footer with a 300 HP Merc....then you put it in the lake and blast off until you reach 80 mph....you will know where the stumps are at some point. Just kidding....unfortunately i have to put in the just kidding because some of today's nutty people might just try that.

Fluorcarbon
Yep......i use both but i've really grown to love Seaguar Abrazx for pitching...and i've got a lot of confidence in throwing 20 to 25 lb Abrazx in some nasty stuff and still seem to always bring them back to the boat. Now i'm in Indiana so a 5 to 7 lber is a good fish and it handles those well in vegetation and wood but maybe a 10 lb or bigger in your area might be a little different but Seaguar sure makes a mean fluorocarbon....and i have nothing to do with the company.....i know they are a sponsor on here but it's just plain good line.

Reel tuning? Bearings?
I'm a jig and plastics pitching fool.....i love pitching and i believe that upgrading to the ceramic / stainless steel ABEC 5 bearings does make it easier to pitch very long distances with very little effort. I don't see as much gain with normal casting since you may have to adjust the brakes and tension knob to stop backlashes. My tournament fishing partner is always telling everyone that i can pitch better than anyone he has ever seen......just the right equipment, bearings and practice.

Don't need anything Santa
Dear Santa, I have a lot of fishing gear and companies aren't coming up with anything new and exciting so I don't need anything this year......well, i did see the new Terminator Shudderbait, I could use a couple of those...but that's it....nothing else new looks good out there.....but i did see that new Booyah Squelcher Buzzbait....that looks interesting...so ok...go ahead and bring me 3 of those too.....that's it....nothing else.....oh did you happen to see that new Aqua View unit? Now that i think about it i could use that.....so i'm done...wait Santa.....I happen to run across that VMC Tokyo Rig......if you could pick up a few of those for me i wouldn't complain.....i appreciate it...Have a great Christmas.....HOLD ON!!!! Just saw that new Booyah Melee vibrating jig.....i might like to try a couple of those......oh and one last thing......i don't need it....but if you are in a great mood i'll have one of the new Daiwa Tatula 100 baitcasting reels in the 8.1 gear ratio.....i sure wish manufacturers would come up with some new stuff i might want....This will be it for me.....i won't need any more fishing gear ever again.....unless someone comes up with something cool......thanks Santa...and merry Christmas to all of the other fishermen, fisherwomen and fisherkids out there!

Abu Garcia 5600 C4 odd problem
Hey guys....i've got an odd problem with an Abu Garcia 5600C4.....when i press the clutch to cast the spool doesn't want to move....now if i barely push it forward then it spins smoothly and will cast...but everytime i push the clutch in it has this little glitch. When i take the spool out and spin it on the shaft it is perfectley smooth. Now here is something that may give someone a clue.....if i have the star drag off of the reel and push in the clutch, it spins right away...but when i put it on and tighten the drag at all then it has that little glitch that won't let it free spool unless i push the spool forward first. The spool will spin backwards just fine.....any ideas?

Swapping out curado 70 handle for larger one?
yes sir...i have 4 of the 70's and bought 4 of the Citica I (same as Curado I's) handles since they have bigger knobs....much better than the smaller handles that came with the 70's. I now have the perfect reel!

Knots breaking !
I use Seaguar Abrazx for all of my fluorocarbon pitching...jigs/creatures ect.....one of the main lakes i fish is full of zebra mussels and I can't recall my knot ever breaking while using 15lb or 17lb Abrazx with a trilene knot. double loop, 6 twists, back through both loops and bingo. I've even launched 3 pounders out of the water from 15 yards into the boat....no breakage...won't use anything else until it fails...

Hair and Hats?
Amen brother......and for those young guys who call the barber their stylist (even if it was a woman i would call her a barber) sounds like they're on their way to becoming a little feminine. (Seinfeld reference: Not that there's anything wrong with that!) You will never hear me say i'm going to go to the stylist to get my hair done....no no no...i'm getting a haircut at the barber....gotta keep some kind of the manly stuff alive! Come on young guys!

(Un)official Hoosiers Thread
Hey Geist Reservoir fishermen in central Indy......good news on the reservoir....Indiana Game and Fish magazine had a small article on the health of the largemouth population from last fall..... they stated that 80% of the fish gathered, i take it from shocking, were at least 14 inches or larger! And a lot of 20" + fish were also noted. They say the future continues to look great for us largemouth guys.....wooo hoooo!

Team tournaments / Jacob Wheeler
Hey guys....i have a fishing buddy i fish with in Indiana and we do the team tournament thing on Geist Reservoir where Jacob Wheeler used to fish when he lived in Indy. I believe he went pro because he couldn't beat us on that lake (slight exaggeration, wait a minute, huge exaggeration!) No, just kidding...this is how good the kid was....a few years ago we had a large tournament on a Saturday with a few days of stable weather leading up to it.......we did ok but didn't place in the money and the winners had about 21lbs.......well, Wheeler fishes a different tournament the very next day after we beat the heck out of the lake. (approximately 1900 acre lake) He and his partner end up with just over 30lbs...for 5 bass....in Indiana! He dominated most tournaments he entered and it wasn't like we didn't know where he fished.....he was just better at presentation, concentration and location at the correct time and knowing when to move or stay on a spot. We can always learn.

Shimano service
Yes....manufacturers don't keep parts on hand for very long but usually you can find other parts that may work for your reel....There are companies that make carbon fiber drag disks that can be used in your Curado. Other parts of the reel will have some common parts with other reels but there are some parts that you may not be able to find that are unique to that reel. It does suck sometimes when you can't get parts but i suppose it's very expensive for reel companies to keep a huge stock of spare parts on hand for years that may not get used. Plus....just like cars...they like it when they can't be fixed so you have to buy another one.....it's all about the money.
