  1. Hey Preytorien, I believe i fish the same lakes you fish in Indiana.....i also have the curado 70 series (2- 70XG's ) and i love them. I pitch a lot at Geist reservoir and love the fact that i can spool up only 60 yards of fluorocarbon to fill the shallow spool on them. That way i can buy a 200 yard spool of line and get 3 spools worth for $18.00....and they cast like a dream....like the small profile also.
  2. Yep...I'm 52 and believe me, you need to stretch a lot and learn to cast both left handed and right handed. I used to only cast with my right arm, ended up with tennis elbow (or fishing elbow) so I had to use my left arm because my right hurt so bad....but after about 2 weeks I became very good with my left arm....so after the right elbow healed up, I just started switching back and forth and haven't had an issue since....but I do stretch everyday, arms, legs and back.....and as some of the other guys have said, learn to cast correctly....let the rod and reel do the job. When I pitch, the only thing that basically moves is my wrist. I use the rod as kind of a slingshot. Need to have the right equipment to do the job easily.
  3. I've been reading a little on the new St. Croix Bass X Rods that will be coming out around November......another $100 to $110 range rods to look at. That price range is hot right now and these look like they might be sweet rods according to what I have read. I can't help myself....I love trying out new stuff.....
  4. I've seen pictures of the new $100 St. Croix Bass X rods and they look nice.....anyone else heard anything about them.....not anything on the St. Croix website.....i believe one website says they are suppose to come out in November....might be interesting.
  5. Hey guys, i've fished a lot of reels in my day and was wondering if the new graphite reels like the new Lew's Mach SS MCS Baitcaster (shown at iCast) are better than the older types of graphite frames like Daiwa and other manufacturers used to make. I didn't know if the process is the same or if the graphite is made a little different. I know that graphite can fracture and aluminum is a little better but for the price i was wondering if it would be worth a try. I just like trying the new stuff.....bait, rod & reel monkey always gets me.
  6. I have 3 70's and love them for pitching......I also like the fact that the spool doesn't hold much line. .....i can fill all 3 reels with one 200 yard spool of 15lb Seaguar Abrazx Fluorocarbon and be set for the season.....Makes the $20.00 for the spool of high quality fluorocarbon seem not so expensive.
  7. What's up fellers! I'm usually on the other parts of the forum and just now came upon my fellow Indiana brothers on here....how the heck is everybody? Just my background....I fish Geist, Morse, Summitt (the dead sea) West Boggs and a few other lakes around Indiana. Geist is my honey hole though.
  8. Sorry if I offend anyone but some of the You Tube fishing stuff is just so dumb.......un-boxings.....wth? You mean I can't look at the same stuff on fishing tackle sites or my 5,000 catalogs I get in the mail every year? I have to watch some dufus open a box and describe what he bought? And how about the big fella who used to be on here and now is "teaching the world to fish"? Ummmm....that's what all of the fishing shows have been doing for the last ooohhhhh say 50 years.....The Outdoor Channel, Bassmasters, FLW, Major League Fishing, Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston etc. etc.....I love it when someone thinks they are showing everyone something "new" when they are just repeating what has been out there for a very long time.......And how about the junkie? Claims to be a fisherman but his boat which is a few years old doesn't look like it has a scratch on it.....My boat is about the same age and I go 4 wheeling through brush, trees, shallow rocky areas, stump fields and anything else to find those little green fish.......bet I've caught a few thousand more fish than that guy because my boat gets used for what it was made for.......so looks like I will stick with the pros and the guys who really know how to fish......Just a silly observation on my part.
  9. Yeah I don't get the Savvy bashing...I have 2 and I also have 2 Champion XP's and there isn't that much difference in sensitivity....besides, when I pitch my finger is always touching the line and I'm watching the line where it enters the water to see if it jumps or moves in a different direction for bites. Just my opinion.
  10. Don't you just love the pros who in the past said that your crankbait had to run true to get strikes but now they all say they are looking for a crankbait that "hunts" and goes all over the place. Sounds like crankbait sales were down for awhile to me. Gotta have that hunting action fellas! Sometimes I do bend the eye to get the bait to run sideways under the docks....maybe i'll come up with the Dock crankbait! "You don't want the crankbait to run straight or hunt....you want it to lean sideways to get under the docks!"
  11. I'm part native American too but d**n, those are some messed up chompers!
  12. Had a USA Bassin tournament today in Indiana and got to try out my new Dobyns Champion XT Split Grip 735C fishing rods......oh my....i'm in love.....they are very nice....used them for pitching a jig and my own homemade creature bait.....only bad thing is now i want to switch all of my rods to the Champions......that might be an expensive want. Think I'll ask the wife....or just slowly drain the checking account one rod at a time..... .
  13. Yes it is.....I make some of my own plastics and jigs. Not bragging (OK...i'm tooting my own horn) but my plastic creature bait that i make has been on fire the last two years and its not an exact replica of any other bait out there....My tournament partner and I have done really well on them. It is fun catching bass on your own creation.
  14. Hootster.....I love the smaller reels....they can take the stress just like the bigger reels. I just bought 2 Curado 70's and 2 Scorpion 70's and all 4 will be used for my pitching of jigs, creatures, tubes etc.
  15. I have a new Scorpion also and have it on a Dobyns Savvy 7'3" Medium Heavy Rod for pitching....not that it matters but the color scheme matches perfectly with the reel. Love it for pitching light baits.
  16. I loved those days....all of the info you needed on the pages....you could take it anywhere with you and flip through it and mark what you were going to buy.....I don't like having to go to the website to find all of the information.....I want my catalogs with all of the info back! It might have to be a thousand pages but who wouldn't like that!
  17. Yep, I've got 2 (Scorpion 70HG's) ....and yes just like Brantley5 said its just a curado 70 with a different color scheme....i've got both kinds and love them both....very compact, great for pitching.
  18. Don't get discouraged about the boat traffic on Geist.....there are still some coves you can get away from the traffic....and also you can go to the other side of the bridge right next to the boat ramp....that is all idle zone and shallow....there are some good fish in there sometimes too.....there were some kayaks out there last weekend when i was fishing a big bass bonanza tournament. No problem Brian....and don't tell anyone but on Summit sometimes a 4 inch green pumpkin senko either wacky rigged or texas rigged might catch a bass or two.....or a smoke / purple / tube has caught a few there too.
  19. Ummm...i'm from Indiana too....and i see you like to fish Summit....I've fished tournaments there and its basically the "dead sea" lol.....You can catch some sometimes there but its not what it used to be....It was great and they introduced walleye and it hasn't been the same since...and i very rarely see walleye fisherman on that lake so i don't get it. When you do fish there, remember that it is very clear so you have to be very stealth like and throw finesse baits.....There is usually a little more color to the water in the cove with all of the trees and stumps. If you want to possibly catch a lot of bass, head over to Geist Reservoir during the weekdays. Its fished hard but still produces. During the weekend tournaments there are always 4 to 7 lb bass caught. But fishing in a kayak during the weekends wouldn't be very fun due to all of the boat traffic.
  20. MIne just came in the mail today! Bought 2 of them.......woo hoo....only took 7 days from Japan after i ordered them.......
  21. Thanks for the review....i've got 2 Scorpion 70's on their way right now....i did buy one of the Curado 70 models and will be testing it out today.
  22. Yeah i do it....I use Lucas SlickMist spray wax.
  23. Yeah that kind of technology (Hydrowave) sure helped KVD during last weeks Classic.....
  24. Just got my first one.....i wanted to try it out before i decide whether or not i will get another one.....seems pretty nice....handle knobs are a little small but i can deal with that.....bought mine online.
