  1. those old Lews were the reels that trick-caster Shag Shahid used....I've never seen anyone who could cast like that guy.....saw him at the boat sport and travel show as a kid and he was amazing.....better than any pro i have watched.
  2. The FR 663 for pitching my home made creature baits.
  3. Oh I agree they are good guys trying their best with limited budgets and I know there are some guys who like to walleye fish but at least at the lakes I mentioned in Indiana the bass fishermen bring in the most money to those areas....so I would think the people in charge would want to build the best bass fisheries they can to keep the money coming in.
  4. Geist Reservoir in Indiana.
  5. Tried out my fathers day gift today....the Dobyns Fury Rod.....first thoughts.....light, seems strong, looks good and right action to it.....Caught a couple of small ones on it and it seemed sensitive and strong......so far so good.....If it continues to impress then I might have to get another one.
  6. hmmmm.....interesting stuff here in Indiana. And maybe other states have this issue also but here goes........It seems like the lakes the DNR take care of and decide to stock with what they think is appropriate, are not nearly as productive for bass as the lakes they have no control over.....for instance, the DNR has stocked some walleyes in lakes that had great bass fishing....after a while those lakes seemed to not produce as well for largemouth.....but reservoirs such as Geist & Morse, which are run by the water companies, continue to put up both numbers and big fish....Monroe isn't as good as it used to be....Summit Lake used to produce great bass but after stocking it with walleye, down the crapper it went.....the DNR still states that Summit gives you a great chance for a big bass yet tournament after tournament all you see is small numbers and maybe a 3 to 4 pounder as big bass.......you guys in other states have this same problem? Its not a cyclical thing either because you aren't seeing some of these lakes any different from 10 years ago.
  7. Yeah I'm kind of a dork when it comes to that....some of you guys probably know how the abu revo series thumb button discolors from the original fake chrome making it look cheap.....so I ordered some black thumb buttons from Lews and they are perfect to take the place of those cheap looking things....I also like to have my rods and reels with the same color schemes.....I think it helps me catch more fish...NOT REALLY.....but at least I looked organized.
  8. Hootie, caught one just like that 2 years ago....he was around 4lbs. Butt ugly.
  9. Hey guys.....if anyone has been wondering about the Lews Custom Speed Stick Rods here you go: I have the 6'9" Squarebill crankbait rod and after having used it on 4 trips now all I can say is wow.....This is an awesome stick. I love the balance, the weight and the action. I have it paired with a Shimano Chronarch 200E5 and can cast lures a mile with this setup....the rod has the perfect forgiving backbone to hook and play a bass. You can feel everything your bait is coming in contact with also.....great sensitivity.....I feel that it is worth the $129.00 price tag and would definitely be a steal during a 10 to 20 % off sale at one of the big online retailers. I'll be getting a couple of more soon.
  10. yeah they are pretty good...I've still got 5 of them stored away....maybe I will break them out this year too.
  11. I had to learn to pitch with my left arm due to tennis elbow. I did it for 3 days straight and started to get pretty good at it.....now my right elbow is healed up and I pitch better with my left....it really doesn't take a lot of practice....just stick with it.
  12. Don't bother trying guys.......I bought everything they had in their warehouse....there is nothing left.
  13. Yes, bought one right when they came out and they are very impressive.....even the $99.00 model is amazing for that price. They are lighter and even smoother than the previous models.
  14. Hey guys, For those who have the new Curado I, how do you like them so far? Are they better than you expected? Thanks for the information
  15. Yep..i've been killing bass on these for the last 3 years....last year I bought an aluminum mold that is very close to the Super Hog and have been making my own with extra salt and scent....my tournament partner and I only use these to pitch with now. The ones I am making use a different plastic that makes the tail section stand up when they are on the bottom.
  16. Thanks Rippin'....It is a Shimano, i figured its no different than other reels who just use the anti reverse bearing. Did Shimano do this just as a backup in case the bearing failed? Just wondering.
  17. Hey guys, if a reel has the anti reverse claw and the anti-reverse bearing, can you take the claw out? It has been making a clicking noise and I have lubed it really well but it still makes noise. Just thought I would take it out. Will it affect anything?
  18. Alright guys, Jacob Wheeler fishes with us guys here in central indiana quite a bit out at Geist Reservoir....whenever he is home from the tour he is out there...and if you want to see a guy locate and catch fish like crazy, this kid is something else....everyone here knows how good he is and now everyone nationally is getting to know him.....He has won the Forrest Wood Cup, finished 2nd this year in the cup, just won the FLW event at Chickamauga a few weeks ago and now.....won the Ultimate Match Fishing title for this year.....unreal.....if you can locate and catch the bags of fish he does here in central indiana, you know he is good. Will he continue his way to the top? Don't know but all we do know is, if he is not on tour, he will be on a local lake here in central Indiana slayin em'. Sure is fun to watch. By the way, he's only 23.
  19. I still have some older Daiwa Graphite Baitcasters that I have had put away for awhile. I broke out a couple the other day and fished with them, pitching creature baits around cover....they still work pretty good....no instant anti reverse but these things still cast really good and they are light because of the graphite. Do any of you guys use any of these anymore?
  20. Finally figured it out.....just for anyone's curiosity, it was the main gear.....I happen to have a spare one, so it was the last thing i tried and it fixed the clicking sound...must have had a bad tooth on the other main gear. Thanks for input guys.
  21. Hey guys, I've taken apart and completely cleaned everything with this reel, bearings, gears etc....but when reeling i keep getting a clicking noise. It gets worse the more you tighten the spool tension cap or have a load on the spool. It doesn't make much noise if any when in free spool....any ideas? Thanks.
  22. Hey, RM, DVT or Franco I've got an older Chronarch that has a clicking noise when reeling....I have completely torn it apart and recleaned everything, bearings etc. Then noise gets worse when you tighten the spool tension cap or have a load on the spool. It doesn't make much of a sound when the spool is in free spool, just when cranking and use more tension....any ideas? Thanks, Kevin
  23. Awesome.....nothing better than seeing the fish come out and hit it......that's the magic.
  24. Alright, got the scoop from BPS themselves.....they said they took the ones off of the website that had sold out during the sale because it was going to be more than 30 days before they get in a new supply....so it looks like there will be more in the future....
