  1. Maybe it wasn't westmoreland, I can't remember, but I do recall that the guys biggest smallmouth was 9 lbs and change. It also seemed to be a fairly current taping, they did a flashback to 1975 when Mckinnis had him on the show back then.
  2. yes, I think it was Billy Westmoreland. Thanks for clearing that up.
  3. I was watching Espn2 last Saturday morning and they had on a "Fishing Hole" program hosted by Jerry Mckinnis (might have been a rerun). Anyway Jerry was fishing with an old buddy of his who he titled "the best smallmouth fisherman alive" I can't remember the guys name, although I think it might have been Bobby Spencer. He must have been about 70 years old, he was a retired telelphone lineman. They were fishing some lakes in tennesee. Live bait on a bobber about15 deep. RW, I couldn't help but think of you, thought maybe this was your fishing partner or maybe you knew of this guy. Have you seen the program or are you familiar with the name? Just curious.
  4. Back in the 80s I used to teach water skiing. Our boats were moored out overnight. If it were to rain the boats would fill with water. They had no bilge pumps, so we would just take them out and pull the plug, get the bow up in the air and hold that speed so that all the water would run out the back and then stick the plug back in. Just don't panic. There were a few times when we would forget to put the plug back in and I was sure we were going to sink a boat due to the amount of water on board, but once you get that bow up in the air and the boat moving you will be amazed at how fast that water will go out of the boat.
  5. I was one who got hooked on this show. It was great head to head competition that was a great format for finding a bass fishing champion. The winner was truly versatile and won some of his matches, including the final from the back of the boat which was a testament to his versatitlity. Of the matches I saw, all the constestants were true gentlemen as well. Great show.
  6. Great insight. Do you know how far north the threadfin lives?
  7. Does anyone else hear the dueling banjos?
  8. Or if you already have a pistol, you can just buy the "snake shot" shells for your current caliber of gun. That way you don't have to buy another gun. It shoots a wide pattern sand like shot good to about 10 ft range. I have a 40 cal, that I use when bird hunting in the desert. I would agree that avoidance would probably be the best but, sometimes the dogs don't always agree.
  9. About 12 years ago me and buddy were staying at his folks house who lived on a course in Caledonia, Michigan. I think it was Candlestick or candlewick. His folks belonged to the course and lived on one of the holes. We took the cart out one late afternoon and went from pond to pond just hammering the fish on limited tackle and bait to choose from. My buddy caught the biggest bass I have ever seen, my guess somewhere 6-8 pounds. We fished unitl dark and caught a lot of fish, I'm guessing 50 or more. the next day we played golf in the morning and went out fishing again that afternoon, after about an hour the golf course staff came out and told us "sorry" no can do. That is some of the best fishing I have ever had. We still talk about it.
  10. I belong to 3, one local, one for the ABA, and this one. This is pretty much the one I use on a regualr basis. The other ones I look at about 2 times per month, which reminds me that I had better check them out, its been a little while.
  11. How do you know what shapes represent the different kinds of fish? Do you have a camera to drop down or just lots of experience?
  12. Just bought a hbird 737 for the bow and a 767 for the counsel. The bait monkey has got a hold on me in December and aint letting go, atleast until my wife leaves me. :-* Heck, if that happens he'll move in.
  13. finger nail clippers are handy for me too, but I like the idea of the solder for weight. Seems like that might be a little tough to get in the worm without bending the solder.
  14. Hey guys, Did you catch them yet? I think this would be an ideal testing ground for the biosonix. Does anyone have a biosonix unit they could borrow?
  15. Like ddBasser I'm in a rebuilding year that has got me way in the hole, even if I would have won every prize in the only tournament i fished, unfortunately I did not win a single prize. It helps when you weigh a fish in. ;D
  16. Nice video!! Looks like you had fun making it.... some beach. Do you think they will bleep that?
  17. Basshunter, I pull my 21 ft procraft with 225 merc with a toyota tacoma 4x4 double cab. I live in south dakota and fish on cold days where there may be ice on the boat ramp. Four wheel drive is a must in those situations. In most cases I never have to use it, but if you are going to a lot of different boat ramps where the water level may be changing, it sure is nice to have 4 wheel drive because you never know what you may find at the ramp. I guess it depends on your local ramps, weather and how many different places you travel on whether you need 4 wheel drive or not. I would go for the 4x4. ;D
  18. I am doing some research on fish finders, this on looks appealing to me. Anyone out there have any experience with one?
  19. Every time I try to open my storage compartments for my my tackle boxes it about breaks my fingers, so I'm looking to by some new pull handles. Any pros or cons on the hardware I should be looking for? I'm am looking at the ones that have a T handle and ones that have a ring. Which one do you guys prefer? Do I need the lock? Thanks in advance for your replies. Rob
  20. I recently purchased a used procraft 215 combo that is equipped with 2 eagle 240 fish finders. One on bow and one on the console. The console also has a zercom flasher unit. Are these eagle units good units. I want to spend about $1000 bucks to up grade them both. Have been looking at getting a unit that has gps on the console unit. Does anyone have some suggestions in that price range? Do I need to upgrade these units or is the baitmonkey just whispering in my ear at night? I know what my wife says, but I need the advice of the forum members to set me on the correct path ;D.
  21. [quote author=hydrillagorilla the windshildes is what turned me off- they can be like a sail if the wind is blowing. your right, this boat weighs 2300 lbs and I was fishing this last weekend in about a 5-10 mph wind, and I kept thinking, "dang this thing is moving a lot" > I wonder what it will be like in a big wind.
  22. She works well so far, If it could only teach me to fish.
