BAM
Rule # 6 This thread is for married or previously married folk. No offense to you single guys living the carefree life of fishing whenever you want. I got married so I didn't have to chase it anymore, problem was, I didn't realize I would now have to fight for it. It's always cheaper to rent than to own.

Is Minn Kota Auto Pilot worth it? Please respond
I had one on my old boat, when they first came out. Cart sums it up pretty well, they have slow reaction times for making quick turns to keep you off the rocks. That is why I bought the maxxum for my latest boat. But boy there are times when I do miss the auto pilot, when it is not too windy out and you are on big open water and just want to slowly cruise the bank, they cant be beat. Too bad they can't make a tm that has the reaction time of cable control and the automation of the auto pilot. Sooner or late they will.

Which used boat would you buy for up to $7,000?
For that price I would think you would be able to find a good 16-18 ft bass rig, ntiro, procraft, astro, etc... with a 150 hp engine, in the 1995-2000 year range. Go to ebay and look at the ended auctions for bass boats, that will give you a good idea what price things are selling at. Take a look at the Amercian bass anglers website for boats. Seems there was some great deals there on 2-3 year old boats, with guys trading up to brand new. I think you might have to be member to look at their forum though.

Online boat purchase?
I found this boat listed on ebay in the expired listings. I sent an email to the guy to see if He still had it available. He did, we were able to get together on price and delivery, so far it has turned out to be a great boat. One thing I did not do, is drive the boat prior to delivery. Looking back, that was probably not too smart(never been accused of that). I'm just thankful the lord looks out for idiots like me. Part of our purchase agreement, was that if anything wasn't as described, I did not have to complete the deal. We were each driving about 500 miles to make the transaction, so if he was willing to come that far, I figured he was on the level. I did have to send him $500 deposit. I think I got a pretty fair deal.

rod worth fixing?
I have an old casting rod 5'5", made by mitchell for the advent of spiderwire. One of the guides is broken. What would it take to repair this rod and can it be done? If I could do it for ten bucks or less, it would be worth it to me.

Mecury Optimax 200
I also had this problem with my motor one day. I found out that the trim controls at the bow of my boat had a wire pushed up against the switch, which was constanly putting the motor down. I just moved the wire off the switch and voila!!! Hope yours is that simple.

why do people hate this guy?
I think it is great to have an actual tournament fishermen in the basscenter studio. He brings more realism to the commentary. There is no doubt in my mind that he has that job due to his stint on the "batchellor". That is the way Hollywood works, they see a way to link our sport to a part of the world that may never have watched. Now, if my wife happens to be in the room when I'm watching basscenter she can actually recognize someone and maybe relate to the show. I will say that I was not excited about Byron in the beginning(due to my dislike of the batchellor batchellorette shows)but, I have warmed up to the guy and I think he has done good job. Unfortunatley for him he will always be an easy target due to his batchellor gig.

BR.com/LBH clothing line. Opinions pls
I would like to get some tournament shirts. I have never owned one but, of all the ones I have seen on tv or mags, they all look so stiff and uncomfortable. That could be my misconception as I have never seen or felt one in person. RR maybe you set me straight on the comfort and cloth weight of those tournament shirts. I have looked at the one on this site but not willing to experiment for $90, and my personal fashion consultant told me those are not my colors. Sorry Glenn, no offense intended towards you or whomever designed them.

Best Boat Insurance
Good post. Just got me thinking so I had to call my Farm Bureau agent. I have a 2000 procraft 215 with 225 merc, boat and trailer are $210/year with a $1000 deduct. For $258/ year or $48 more per year, my deductible would drop to $250. With my poor driving and trailering skills I probably ought to change it.

That is a painful story. I don't even want to get my boat out after hearing that.

how long would you leave your rig in the water?
I was wondering the same thing, Thanks for asking the question. I am contemplating putting my boat in a marina for the season ( may to october here). They want $1000 for a slip with no lift or $1800 for a slip with a lift. Other than staining and a dirty boat is there a down side to leaving your boat in the water for that amount of time? I'm having a hard time swallowing the $1800. thanks

What is your favorite Foot Control System......
I used to have an auto pilot power drive. I liked the auto pilot for certain situations but, the power drive steering is much to slow to react if you need to make a sudden turn to avoid rocks, wood etc.. My latest boat came with a motor guide with cable foot control. I like the cable much better for the reaction time on manueverability, but, this does not have a "constant on" switch, which I did find valuable in certain situations. I plan on replacing this motor guide with a minn kota maxxum pro, It has the cable foot control and I think it has the "constan on" switch as well. If not, I would much rather trade the manueverability factor for the "constant " switch.

minn kota maxxum pro with lift assist
Looking at getting a new trolling motor. I am down to the minn kota maxxum or the maxxum pro. The main difference that I see is that the "pro" has the lift assist feature, which is supposed to be easier to lift the trolling motor out of the water. Does anyone have one of these? The cost difference is about a 100 bucks, just wondering if it is worth it. I haven't been able to find one mounted on a boat to try it out. Thanks for any help.
