  1. Does anyone own hot maps premeir for their gps unit? I recently purchased it for my humminbird 767 unit. I have not been able to get it to work yet. I have been working with tech support from humminbird but, it has been a slow moving process. The last I have heard is that I may need to update the software on my gps unit. Anyone have any hints. I knew I should have bought the 947C.
  2. I like to stand or lean on my pedestal seat. I find it a lot easier to control the trolling motor if I am leaning on the pedestal seat. While standing, I can see the water and presence of cover or fish better. I am a better caster from the standing position as well.
  3. Yeah right...WE know. You just wanted to hold onto that thing as long as possible so you could catch another hawg.....and you did. ;D ;D
  4. Thanks RW. That is what I thought you meant but, just wanted to make sure. I always appreciate your comments and the time you dedicate in sharing your knowledge over and over again. People say that I live close to a great small mouth fishery (Missouri river). I just don't feel that comfortable navigating on it yet. Lots of channel changes and moving sandbars. One of these days... I'll get out there and get some of those bronzebacks.
  5. Could you clarify this statement for us slow south dakota boys? I just don't follow that. thanks
  6. Was this to apply to bass mainly or all species of fish? I fish some pretty stained and muddy water. Sometimes I wouldn't be able to see the cup in a foot of water and still catch fish in 4-5 ft of water. hmmmm.
  7. I would be a liar if I said that it has not crossed my mind! ;D Talk about Mojo.......Wow ... This charm is beginning to look like it has some supernatural fishing powers that it passes on to anyone who has come into contact with it. Can you hear the Twilight zone music? Listen real close....woooooeeeeeuuuuulluuuuunkerrrrrrrrrr
  8. Heck, send that thing to south dakota. I want some of the mojo it left with Captain Cali to land him that double digit bass ;D ;D Lets recap, CC has the charm on 8/5 and then lands the big fish on 8/10...hmmmmm Just for clarification. CC, was it in your possesion when you landed big momma? Not trying to take anything away from your fishing abilities, CC but, you can't tell me it hasn't crossed your mind.
  9. WCCT, Yeah I had my eye on one of those viper corals, it would have been my first choice but ,the age and cost of the one I had located just didn't work. As I recall, they are no longer being made and that was too a concern for me. Definitely a sweet looking ride though.
  10. I bought a used 2001 procraft 215 combo (fish and ski). I have had it for a year now and I love it more every time I get on the water. Cart is right about the limitations of "fish and skis" for die hard fishermen, as we have mentioned in other threads but, for me and my family it works. My wife is finally coming around to it too. Just last week we were out on the lake with our four kids and I asked her if she was still unhappy that I bought this boat? Her comment, " I like it a lot better than when you first bought it". I would buy it all over again.
  11. I have a procraft 215(21.5 ft) fish and ski, It does have limited rod storage but, I can use the ski storage area for rod storage I just don't choose to. The back deck is a little small but, certainly big enough for one angler or two small anglers. I do have to lay my spare rods up against the windshield when fishing. Not ideal but it works. I have snagged a rod or two while casting :-[, nothing broken yet. Overall storage is great for tackle and incedentals. The coast guard placard says I can have up to 7 people or 980 lbs on board. It has a 225 merc on the back with a 5 blade power prop. I have had it up to 58 mph (gps). Plenty of speed for me. It has a little deeper v hull than a standard bass boat and handles the waves very well. My kids love it, I like it, my wife still thinks it is a fishing boat and points that out on occasion, although I think she is finally warming up to it. IMO if your wife does not fish, she will always think a "fish and ski" is a fishing boat, and she'll never be happy with it. So be prepared for that issue. I like my boat and would buy another. Mine is a 2001 I found used off ebay for about $17k, purchased last fall. It was a fair "deal" in my eyes. Boat is in excellent shape. Do a search on ebay for fish and skis and look at the expired listings. You will find a lot of them out there that did not sell and are still available. your challenge will be delivery, due to your location. I am in south dakota and most of the boats that I liked were in the southern tier. Good luck with whatever you do.
  12. I have a 21 footer, fish and ski, works great for every application except the one lake that is full of flooded timber. It makes it hard to manuever around there without hitting every peice of timber and making a lot of noise. That is the one time when I wish I had a smaller boat. I was going to fish that tourney as a non boater this year.
  13. I live in the Tri state area where Iowa,Nebraska and South Dakota come together. I fish all three states and the Missouri River which borders all three. I did spend 2 summers in oxford maine(87,88) teaching little campers how to swim and water ski on Lake Thompson.
  14. No. Challenge your guy as soon as you know who he/she is. That way he has most of the month to complete his challenge and report back. I think that last month, guys were waiting to complete their own challenge b4 they made the challenge to the next guy, in that case it just takes one person to stop the whole process. No by all means, challenge the person asap. just my 2 cents. Rob
  15. RW, ARe you saying that you fish methods 2-5 in water deeper than 12 feet?
  16. I would use a jig, c-rig or deep crank on the ledges that goes from 5-25 feet of water around the dam and boths sides of the point just to the right of the word "camping" where the water goes from 5-20 feet pretty quick. good luck
  17. Wow, That was a steal, and so was yours, bghunter. Good work guys. I thought I was being patient, when I bought my fish and ski but, apparently I was not patient enough. :'(
  18. I bought the maxx pro this spring replacing the motor guide that was on the boat. I previously owned an auto pilot on a different boat and chose the cable control over the powerdrive due to the response time needed for turning. The reason for this, is that where I fish, I may need to make some quick changes in directions with my trolling motor. The cable controls of the maxxum allow for this, the electric motor of the powerdrive/auto pilot do not. If your style of fishing does not require quick changes in navigation to avoid rocks or other hazards then I might recommend the auto pilot style. There are times that I miss the auto pilot for shooting straight down a long bank, but if you want to work in and out of the docks and other tight areas, you would be better served with the cable foot contol. IMO You might do a search on this topic under "minn kota" There was more discussion on this earlier this year.
  19. Thanks, It's a shame she sits there most of the time.
  20. I would be targeting the white perch, In my opinion they will be the easiest to catch and the odds of catching a tagged one are better. For those I recommend: in this order 1. Black or yellow beetlespin. 2. 1/4 ounce hair jigs, in black yellow, brown or blue/white. 3. Roostertails or mepps spinners, which you have same colors as above. The spinnerbaits I would start off with a medium to fast retireve. If no fish then, slow it down and make it a little more stop and go retrieve, if still no fish I would reel it just fast enough to keep the spinner blades turning. i'm sure your dad will know how to work the jigs, if not someone here will let you know, as I can't seem to put it into words right now. Good luck
  21. I wanted to get a fishing boat and to keep the peace with my wife, I did have to get a fish and ski boat. Although I do enjoy fishing out of it, I can appreciate some of Cart7's negatives of them. Specifically the, rod storage. Don't get me wrong, though, fish and ski is better than none and I am happy with my boat. The thing that gets me the most, is that my wife still complains that it is just a "fishing" boat cause you can only get 7 people in it by law. My advice is get what you want, because they will whine about it anyway. That way one of you will be happy.
  22. humps, submerged islands, and rocky points/ledges
  23. That's why they call him "cool hand Luke". Swindle is just practicing for his debut into "WWF". He's probably going to need to bulk up a little first though. Madhouse, Thanks for the update. I get the channel but, never get to see it. I need to make a note to watch the last few matches. The Houston v Clunn should be awesome.
  24. If it were me, I would get a small to medium size inline spinner bait(mepps). This would allow you to target every species listed. You might also try a beetlespin or mimic minnow. I would think they would all be good for this application. If you knew how many of a certain species were tagged, that would also help, as you could choose a bait that suits that species. How many acres is the lake? Hey Tex, Fall starts August 1st in maine.. ;D ;D
  25. AZ, So far this year I had been mainly fishing softplastics, t-rigged with and without weight. Jig fishing is something I have rarley done, so just this last saturday, I decided to try jig fishing. I put on a 3/8 ounce black blue jig with a black chunk trailer and within about 90 minutes boated 2 bass and lost one. The feel was not much different than that of a weighted softplastic and the bites felt very similar as well. The big differences were the fall rate and degree of weedlessness. A Jig, in most cases falls faster than t-rigged plastics. By adding a trailer you can slow the fall rate a little Be ready to spend a little time pulling weeds off or getting use to keeping the jig just above the weedline. Anyway, I didn't notice the bite that different. Just go give it a go and tell us what your experience is. Good luck.
