  1. After seeing how much High-end aluminums have went up, I have narrowed it down to either a ranger or triton more than likely and 03 or 04. 19'6". WHo runs what and why? RIght now the biggest selling point is the abundance of FLW/BFL events in my area.
  2. I dont give them the chance to jump....or i dont make them jump.... All the flyfishing i used to do has something to do for it.
  3. I dont give them the chance to jump. Flyfishing for bass so much when i was in college has something to do with it... A bass rarely jumps on the fly.
  4. Lake Burton and Blue Ridge have them. Hard to catch from what i hear. No way to really pattern them or catch them consistently is what I have always heard. Have heard from old timers that Lanier was one of the best smallie lakes in the south before Spots took over. Do your research and there are places in western NC that you can catch them wading...Thats how I caught the smallies I have caught on a flyrod. I just cant give this info out though.
  5. For what you want, A Hummingbird piranha or bottomline will work fine...I have a piranha on the console of my aluminum boat that works great for what it is used for. I would not spend more than $100 ....Check out Basspro.com they have several in that range and some were onsale not to long ago.
  6. With 3 boats and about to buy another one, Havent bank fished in a long time.
  7. Get used to it.Thats the way people are. Which is one of the reasons I fish alone unless i fish with one of 2 guys I fish tournaments with. Everybody else i have found just wants to use me for a boat, fishing spots, duck hunts, etc.. Since i had foot surgery last month, i have been avoided like the plague, I havent heard from any of my other former friends. Until one(the one with the new boat that everyone hates to fish with due to forgeting you are back there) had a tournament on the lake i fish most and needed advice, he called exactly when i knew he would, i didnt answer....and as i predicted He called to brad about his little check he won and I just hit my voice mail button....
  8. I was thinking about Dodge co, looking at the post time, i was a little impaired ....Was it really open in 92?? ....Where is Ocmulgee at? Looks like fun. Have you been to Lucas yet? thoughts?
  9. ONly way to catch spawning carp is bowfishing, which is fun..... I think for some reason the fish are just now thinking about staging in Ga's big water other than seminole and part of sinclair. I am out of commision right now but everybody I talk to is yet to see any beds or notice fish anywhere other than shallow feeding when conditions allow and periodic bites on points that are usually loaded this time of year with pre and post-spawn fish.
  10. 10.2- T-rigged black trick worm. 9.5lb on chartruese popper on 5wt flyrod. 6lb spotted bass- C-rig junebug senko
  11. NIce fish. If I am not mistaken the PFA has only been open to fishing for a few years. It was built and then stocked in the late 90's.
  12. He was leading after day 2.
  13. As far as the line breaking off at the lure.....ALWAYS wrap the line around the hookeye, etc. twice!!!!! then tie your knot. Unless you fish clear water, a leader isnt needed. When you add a leader, you add another knot that WILL fail at some point, alot of time the braid will eventually cut the mono or flourocarbon. I use an Albright knot when i do add a leader.
  14. I pretty much live on an almost 20000 acre lake that has a generating dam between it and another 15000 acre lake. On both lakes when they pull water either way.....THE FISH BITE!!!!!!!!! and alot of times they will bite faster moving baits. During the extreme weather summer or winter, When they are generating is the only time the fish really bite. Big crankbaits on humps where shad are present will really catch some hawgs when they are pulling water.....Some dams you can look up in the phonebook and call. I have never really had any luck getting accurate info as far as lakes go.
  15. a 6'6 pr 7ft MH works best w/ at least 12lb line. You can fish a shakeyhead about anywhere. Here we do best around and in brush, docks, rocks, and wood. Doesnt matter where you fish it....if the bite is tough, it will get you bites you wont get otherwise.
  16. Here's what I think and have learned, I am sure i am gonna catch some heat, but i dont care. People that go out and cant catch fish on a given day, love to blame tournament pressure. Unless its an FLW tournament(200-400 anglers prefishing and 3 day tournament) on a small body of water, the fish really dont get that pressured and beatup...If you fish alot, you will start to notice that most fish move on and off areas where they can be caught almost in shifts.....You may catch fish on one spot only at certain times and then it may go dead a little while and then you might catch a few more there a few hours later. Fish 200 days a year and you will notice this stuff. Most Tournament directors will not release dying fish, I have found that most complaints about tournaments are over exagerrations of people that live on the lake complaining, because they think they own the lake too. With a 100+ events a yr on the lake where i live, the landowners most who dont fish complain about everything. The same ones bombard the DNR main office complaining about the noise at blast off, the people fishing around their docks, and whatever else they can think of.....Which nothing is going on illegal, they just dont like people on "their lake." We had one guy shoot at guys fishing his dock during a night tournament. Its ridiculous, we even have people protesting boat ramp upgrades, because they think it will bring more people to "their" lake and more tournaments that they dont want.....Yet they dont want to pay the extra tax money they would have to make up the revenue generated by fishermen and tournament anglers.... Other than being able to see fish in clear water, bedfishing is tougher most of the time than any other type of fishing. These fish are not hungry and most times will not bite without alot of harrasment. Amazes me how people cling to and repeat ignorant things that they hear others say. Unless you are fishing in a lake with low fish numbers or streams, catching a bedding fishing and weighing it in a tournament isnt going to really affect anything. No different than hunting deer while they are in the rut, turkeys during the spring, etc....if we interfere with an animal at all, we are hindering its ability to reproduce, live normal.....And in my experience, 9 times out of 10, the fish that you really want passing on their DNA are the female hawgs that spawn in 6-12ft of water, that you will never see and rarely get to bite.
  17. How much tackle do you carry when you take out 2 people? Which rods/reels? etc. What do you pack? How much tackle and rods do you need to guide fulltime? Any other tips or any info will be helpful. If you dont guide or know what you are talking about please dont post.
  18. Thanks Catt. Those weight figures pretty much helped me make up my mind.Best info I have gotten on this site in a while. Now to find a dealer that actually wants to sell me a boat. I couldnt even get a price yesterday on the phone. I noticed the fuel tank sizes yesterday when I was looking around online. I am looking at either the SVX or a X19TS or X20TS. Just got a price on the X19w/ 200 yamaha- $32,500 They have went up since last year....
  19. It doesnt really make a difference to me. New Bassmaster talks about Fat Ikas, and rigging them upside down...and how well it works...So enjoy it while it lasts.....that is all..
  20. If I could afford a new Ranger, I would buy one......I think the Xpress is going to be the way to go for me. Have heard nothing but good things. A few FLW series guys run them and they have no complaints.
  21. Revo, hands down....The new curados are a rip off.
  22. Is the condition of the motor the biggest consideration when looking at used boats other than the usual things? I am in the market for something with at least a 175. I am leaning towards one of the new Aluminums like a Express because that way I will be getting a new motor w/ warrenty and such. If I do decide on a used fiberglass what should I be concerned with as far as the motor goes? I cant afford to spend 15000 to 20000 on a used boat only to have to spend 5000 more to get the motor back going right after the tourist season really picks up here.
  23. I am looking at 19 and 20 ft bassboats with 175 to 200hp motors. Anybody have ro rode in one of the new aluminums like a Express. I will be guiding and fishing tournaments around the southeast out of the boat. I fish shallow and up creeks and rivers alot. The new Express seems like it will fit the bill. Yet I am still considering a used Triton, skeeter, or Ranger and a few others. Like the price of the Aluminums especially having a new motor as compared to a used motor i know nothing about. What are the pros and cons of each?
  24. I have some Team Allstars, I like them. But I am going to buy a few Dawia Light and tough rods in the next few months. I have looked at them and they are awesome and a pretty good price for what you get.. Split grip too. And only cost between $110 and $130.
  25. baby brush hog Super Hog Brush Hog Cold steel Worm-Lizards- Cashed some checks last year with these.
