I have tried several weights and I have caught more bass on the black and blue 1/4 oz swimjig than all of them combined. when I want to change up I will go from a single tail to a double tail grub... and if I really want to bulk up I will go with a skirted double tailed grub... my personal best came on a swim jig with a single tail grub... I have a couple of favorite brands... Brovarney out of Wisconsin does a very nice swimbait... but a bit on the expensive side. I also scored 20 of the KVD BPS swim jigs when they were on sale for .99 and 15 of them I got in 1/4 oz. AL

Well I am back, SORTA, still homeless but staying at the post lodging in Fort Stewart as I type this, Made the 1k trip with the wife, two daughters AND the Siberian Husky (also a female!). we brought two vehicles, I drove the 95 Cavalier with the wife drive the 04 Jeep so my drive was OK and hers was MUCH nicer hahahaha. She doesn't like driving in traffic so going thru Nashville during rush hour as well as Atlanta was a real acheivement for here even and I am very proud of her even though I swear my bumper has an imprint of her license plate because she was following so close thru those towns! hahahahahah It only took 2 days and the first night in Hinesville was a real exercise in Patience as I had a VERY HARD time finding a place that is "pet friendly" especially to a Husky as anyone that has one knows how they shed ALL the time hahahaha. Lets just say if any of you ever decide to stay over night in Hinesville do NOT stay at the Sunset Inn *shaking head* what a dive. Anyways we are here safe and sound and looking forward to HOPEFULLY signing for quarters next week. thanks for all the prayers and well wishes for this trip, because of them this trip went by quite smoothly and I still have some of my hair left. I am off now on a 4 day weekend so we decided to go to Tybee Island today and all I can say is WOW!!! I can't WAIT for my fishing equipment so I can hit the waters.... AL
  7. most of the money is re-imbursed... they will pay for 10 days at the lodging BUT its out of pocket to begin with and they pay me back... just like the nights in the motel going out there... and gas... they pay like .17cents a mile but you pay it and they pay it back... its not a big deal as long as you don't go over... like if my stay in the guest house takes longer than 10 days I start paying completely out of pocket... NORMALLY when you are at a post you can go to finance and get your DLA (dislocation allowance) early but since I wasn't on a "post" I didn't have a finance to go to so I have to do it once I get to Fort Stewart... it will be ok... just if I don't get housing right away then I will be kind of mad because that is money I could have used for a deposit... its like everything in life... its all about making the right decision... I will know more next week when I get to housing and get on the list... but yes I have to agree that it does suck... I have a "government issued" credit card that I use when I am "on official Army orders" but I can't use it because a PCS move falls into a different category... *shrug* luckily I can afford it... a specialist or Private First Class making his first PCS move might not have it so good... thanks for all the good wishes AL
  8. yes I am homeless... I am currently on my PCS (Permenant Change of Station) move from Wisconsin to Fort Stewart... Currently staying with the in-laws till the 7th then we are taking off for the 1,100 mile drive and HOPING that there isn't TOO long of a wait for Government housing... *sigh* so please wish us luck on that one... at $56 a night in guest housing its going to add up quick waiting to get housing... according to the lady in Post Housing I should have housing in less than a week! AL

  11. hell I freely admit I SUCK at fishing... nothing average about me! but I sure do have a passion for it... I am lucky my wife allows me to spend a portion of my paycheck every now and again on fishing stuff so I am VERY lucky... I have picked up some nice stuff over the past year... so I guess the best advice I can give is buy the best you can logically afford... any less than that and your going to wish you had just given in and bought it... any more and the better half will "get ya" hahahaha.. AL
  12. ;D Gman, with a rod like that, if you have to ask, its WAY too expensive for my budget! ;D at least in MY world that is how it works! AL
  13. just don't treat him any different than you normally would... just be understanding if he feels a bit "distant" at times... thats it... I am sure he will want to fish if he used to fish before he went... I know Iwanted to do all those things when I got back AL
  14. glad you get to go fishing with your son soon... I am sure he is looking forward to it as much as you are... just be prepared ok? he may have become a man while he was gone... but he has expierenced and seen things that very few people will EVER understand... its going to be tough for him to transition to being in the land of the big px... just give him a lot of space and the oportunity to talk IF he wants to... it took me a long time to talk to anyone about my time over there... good luck and God speed AL
  15. OH SURE... been a member of this site for HOW LONG? and not ONCE did I get to go fishing with anyone *sigh* hahahahaha just messin.... SERIOUSLY listen... if y'all are SERIOUS about taking a soldier fishing.. here is what you do... call your local Reserve Center... explain to the Unit Administrator what it is you would like... give them your number... they will contact a soldier that just got back from Iraq or something and there you go.... BOBS YOUR UNCLE! AL
  16. lets throw another little bit into the mix... everyone talks about how light either rod and reel is... but then they throw a couple more ounces onto it to balance it... while when its neutral balanced it does feel lighter in reality its NOT... could this effect you with your casting all day long? and FYI... I have both, balanced and unbalanced and I really don't see much difference in the two when it comes to my lack of catching fish ;D AL
  17. I have "known" MikeD for what about 1 1/2 years now... not personally but online thru Lunkerville and NY Bass... I can tell you that he is a genuine and very NICE GUY... If he ever makes it down my way I will make sure I meet up with him just to shake his hand... his show isn't a cut and splice of catching big ole fish... its not fake... it reminds me of MY fishing tournaments... I can go out and whack them in prefishing.... but come tournament day... I would get skunked... I have a lunkerville sticker on MY car... AL
  18. good scores there... gottal love when someone squares you away AL
  19. Thanks, I got it before I got big into fishing... I wish I could afford this AND a truck and boat hahahahha it sucks not being rich
  20. this is MY baby... I have posted it several times... its a 95 with a 6 sp
  21. just wanted to give a quick update... today I recieved a package that made right the errors on my origional orders... I am very pleased with the outcome and I have already ordered more baits from them without hesitation... AL
  22. If it doesn't leak I would pay $800 for it... no problem... I hope I can find a boat like that when I get to Georgia.. that is perfect for what I am looking for.. heck I don't even need the gas motor... I will just put a trolling motor on the back too! if it doesn't leak I would definately go for it..
  23. congrats on the new lunker... its always wonderful to reach a new plateau isn't it? AL
  24. I emailed them, and the guy that emailed me back was VERY nice... he said he was going to look into it and get back with me... the next day he did saying he was very sorry yada yada yada and that he would make it right and then ASKED me how I wanted him to make it right... VERY COOL! I emailed him back and I will let y'all know when this is fixed... I am VERY optomistic that its going to work out great... Pete Wolf (the guy that emailed me) seems like quite the stand up guy! That is how customer service should act! AL
  25. a lowrider for $69 is a very good deal! I have the weightless worm one and I really like it a lot AL
