My dad is out for my promotion and we went fishing twice... I threw every plastic I owned and nothing... wow... this bites... or should more fitting doesn't bite... my dad did catch a huge bowfin though .... grrrr ugly fish I have to tell you, but I can't complain too much.. its nice having him out here and just spending time with him... AL

need to take a good attitude too... tournament fishing is a lot different than going out and fishing with your kin... I go soooo frustrated when I first started tournament fishing that I almost quit the club... I couldn't BUY a bite... but I figured "bump it" and just didn't sweat it and enjoyed being out on the boat with my buds and next thing you know... I have a trophy on my mantle and a check for a couple of hundred bucks... just my .02 AL

*sigh* now I will just be glad when us common folk can pick it up at BPS... they really missed the pitch on this one... AL

*sigh* that is awesome... my kids wouldn't ever think of something like that... granted they are girls 15 and 13... but *shrug* that is simply awesome... if my family even had someone custom build me a rod like that I would be beside myself let alone one of them actually MAKE IT??? fogitabout... you did good my man .. you did VERY good... I know what you were talking about... and that is round about why I said what I said... the kids with the give me stuff... they need to understand the "pay if forward system" or volunteerism or something along that line.. dip your toe in the water of "promotion" and before you know it you will have your first sponsor.. and giving true ROI AL

Why not check out Falcon rods? the new Cara's are amazing from what I hear.. I will be able to tell you first hand after tomorrow... AL

the ceremony is at 1000 today... my mom and dad have flown out for it... its going to be very special to have my dad put the rank on my chest for the first time... AL

and btw hopefully in Feb or so I can get a company and be a First Sergeant...

Dang... that guy ^^^^ is smart! only took 18 years.. but Thursday is the Promotion Ceremony which is effective 01 September... My Mom and Dad will be flying out and attending the monumental occasion : Then I am sure the wife will have SOMETHING for me to do just to show that SHE is household 6! AL

this is my current hat, its a Falcon Rods hat... its VERY comfortable... and I have had lots of good luck with it.. AL

"stuff" is cool and has sentimental value like the bracelet... but I tell you.. the memory and the knowledge of someone going out of their way to help me out or do me a kindness means so much more... prime example is LBH going thru the trouble of collecting hundreds of stickers for my desk I had in Iraq.. it killed me to leave it .. but it wouldn't fit in my ruck... ;D but I will forever have the memory of that desk and typing home to my family daily on it and looking up and seeing all the "love" stuck to that desk... priceless... way to go guys... heck since its still making its rounds... put me down... I will throw some Senior NCO and Georgia MOJO on there there.. AL

I don't have ANY sponsors and I am returning a lot of businesses investments... here is how.. and this IMHO is how someone might want to think about getting started... I have become known in my unit as the "fishing nut" some folks joke about it... but 1/2 dozen or so folks have come to me asking for advice on what to get and how to fish etc. Right now I have 3 folks that have asked me to take them fishing. They don't have ANY equipment so they will use mine... I have the WHOLE gamut of rods from the $40 rod to the $250 rod... reels I pretty much only have Citicas or better for bait casters but my spinning reels (which they WILL use) is much more basic... but when we go out... I teach them some basic stuff... I will show them what works... I tell them what I use and then I will take them to my place and get them online and show them were to buy them... ie: ***, Falcon Rods, Shimano Reels.... I point them in the direction they need to go for a beginner. I warn them about going overboard and buying 5 cheap rods... because anyone that is hooked on fishing knows... those cheap rods will be traded out easily in 6 months for a bit better of a product... so while NO I don't tournament fish here... I will tell them what to look for and I also ask in return that if they think about it... just mention that I was the guy that turned them on to the product... not because I want something free in return... but to let them know that their faith in me was well founded. Eventually it may just turn into a true sponsorship..I am very active in promoting the sport and catch and release and protecting our resource. NOW having said that... some companies who will remain nameless at this point have been VERY good to me but its not that they expect a return on the investment... I am just a NICE GUY ;D and the way I show my thanks is by promoting their product... IF its a good product.. which it is... AL
