50 or 65lbs Braid?
I would think 50 would be more manageable and if "it ain't broke, don't fix it"

An enjoyable morning
Nice fish! Nice pics too. Thanks for sharing.

Daiwa Peanut II - great lure, shiza hooks
So I learned an important lesson about these lures last night. The stock hooks are the cheesist, most worthless kind on the market... I actually smooshed one with my fingers. I have the white one and the blue \ chrome. They produce nicely but the fragile hooks are a serious flaw. :-[ Live and learn I suppose.

Low Memory Line
Power Pro 15# is fantastic... I just can't see it. Red Cajun 8# that has been spooled properly and treated is also elite.

best under rated lure
The small Storm Hot n' tot in silver. Bass murder it consistently.

Shocking: CAUGHT OVERBAGGING, 141 SMALLMOUTHS!!
It kills me that people do things like this... Bunch of Morons. On a side note, where is the spot?

Tyger leaders for pike.
When Pike are around I use American Fishing Wire. I just tie it using a uni knot and away you go. The coating does start to come off after a bit though. http://www.americanfishingwire.com/smsupreme.asp EDIT - This guy seems to have some knowledge in this area. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1245625390 ^ He was using a Fluro leader.

To net or not to net? This is the newbie's question.
When shore fishing, no net... Always fun when you get a big Northern or bowfin on and its upset about having a hook through the lip. <<-- N'rly My son wants me to buy a net and me thinks he might be right.

Your fishing flaws
LOL - the close bite rules. One of my foundest memories is my son reeling in and letting his lure sit right next to shore. He's looking around and goes to pick up when a Northern Pike rips into it and takes off... He just about crapped his pants and was lucky to hold on to his rod. It was like a scene from JAWS. ahh memories.

New PB ~ Northern Pike
For sure. That one is quite fat and at 35 inches in would be 10+ easy. Most people say 15 and up is a huge Northern. Anything over 10 is a great time for me.

Anyone have any luck on Lake Champlain yet?
Nice. I'm pretty familar with LC, lived and fished here my whole life. Pretty soon its gonna be awesome!

New PB ~ Northern Pike
Nice fish and great pics. I hunt Esox quite a bit in VT. How much did she weigh? I snagged a nice one a few weeks back but no scale with me.

Smallie from last night...
Heck yeah! I'm in North Colchester. Snow has dampened my spirits but looks like a good fishing weekend! Thanks for the comments everyone!

Extra Large Baits
I had good luck last year with the giant Xrap jointed in bleeding olive flash. Caught more than a few Northerns but also some real nice bass as well.

New Guy from NH
Welcome. This place is awesome!

Your fishing flaws
I also suffer from this one... Always seems like Northern Pike will hit topwater during the middle of the day though.

Anyone have any luck on Lake Champlain yet?
Shameless bump! although its snowing like crazy here at the moment... > Walleye opens on Saturday as well.

Using Live Bait for Smallies
Last year my son nabbed a 4.5 pound smallie on a nightcrawler... Here I am throwing a $14 LC. I just prefer lures; for me its a personal choice. I love fishing minnows, crawlers and frogs with my sons though. Although that more mentor, teacher type thing than fishing. It still beats work, any day of the week. Did I mention I'm rocking 10.5 inches of snow right now What the hell! Suppose to be 80's this weekend. Gotta love NE.

Walleye lures
I just caught a nice walleye from shore using a large Jointed rebel in gold. Couple of my buddies are walleye fanatics and swear by Rapala Deep Tail Dancers in some pretty strange colors.

Anyone have any luck on Lake Champlain yet?
Greetings from Vermont! Was wondering if anyone had any luck this year on LC? I've been out a few times and besides for a 9LB Northern Pike I haven't had much luck. The rivers in Vermont have been a different story but Northern Lake Champlain has been a bit slow for me thus far. I normally fish from shore but my buddy has a boat now so that should change. When it gets warmer I use a canoe or kayak. Thanks and kind regards.

Your fishing flaws
Does your structure bite or something? ;D LOL - Only when I cast too hard and my lure becomes part of the structure.

Braided line
I love my mitchell. Really nice reel for the money. I'm using Power Pro 20 right now, my only complaint is that I can't see it...
