  1. Really thete should be something on here stickied. If someone wants a good spinning reel at a good price it's always a president. That's is like maybe the only thing almost everyone on here is in agreement about Even just a list of quality rods and teels both casting and spinning pinned somewhere would be amazing.
  2. Ya I agree totally about msrp. There is now way I would ever pay the $119 I think they are. You can get tatulas for less. At their actual price there and much much better reels available. But for $60 it's pretty hard to beat I think.
  3. As for bonnets for treble hooks. My favorite are the soft yellow plastic ones from BPS. You get a lot of them and for a good price. The only problem is they take up a lot off room in your box as they are bulky.
  4. I was killing it on one today. Fishing it through a bunch of spotty grass anb mats. Change the hooks out to weedless wacky hooks and game on. It goes anywhere now.
  5. It has a little piece that comes out to grease the gear right? Did you out three obv screw in there? It is to long and the hear is hitting it.
  6. A bottom dredge? I would be lucky to get those things to run deeper then 3 feet.
  7. Not have enough money to just buy anything I want.
  8. I see. And as for they non twist lock weighted hook they for sure make them and I have a bunch. I don't ever really use them though. You actually don't want to use non twist lock hooks on frogs. They have a 90 degree angle where it bends to the eye and it can and will catch stuff. The twist locks have a 45 degree or whatever it is and slips right over the stuff.
  9. Ya but not for $60. At that price it can't be beat. Someone looking to get into casting reels and looking for a first reel then that is the deal.
  10. Ya you would like to think production means they are cranking them out and ready for you to buy. That is definetly not the case though.
  11. Your not supposed to use a weighted hook with them. There is actually a really old BR video on here somewhere from when they first came out. It's talks all about what hook to use and how to rig them.
  12. I picked one up a few weeks ago an DSG. They for sure walk like crazy and that is one of te thing I really like about it.
  13. That makes no sense. Twist locks and what you use to make a bait last longer. If you use a non twislock hook it is going to rip out the bottom of the nose really quick. I have been there done that and have a buch of toads that are still good they just nee the nose fixed. Twist locks make them last much much longer.
  14. So I just saw on TW they have the lexas on sale for $60! They only have 3 models though. One model is right in 4.3 or something and then two ad left hand in 6.4 and that 4.3 I think it is. They are not the most high end reel but for $60 it's hard to beat if you needed a plenty good enough reel at s great price. It's over $50 too shipping is free.
  15. I don't know who is using a Lexa 400. Those things are insanely big and heavy. I couldnt imagine holding it and casting one all day. If shaq needed a swimbait reel that's the one he would use.
  16. If he plans on getting his rod in the next 6 months I would look else where. It's a wait to get your rod when you order one. I actually use a LDC M/H for I think most of the bait he mentioned. I am not 100% sure but I think a M/H is rather up to 5oz. They are not super stiff rods and excell at baits with trebles but can still throw whatever. When it comes to throwing like a hudd 68 or something I use a stouter rod with more sensitivity.
  17. I am left handed and reel with my right both spinning and casting. I don't switch hands or any of that when casting with either. I want my dominant hand "my left" working the rod. It seems like that should be the case for everyone. Any one can turn either hand in a circle plenty fine. But when it comes to precisely working a bait I would think you would want your best hand doing it.
  18. Well of course not. That would defy physics. But a palomar is a actual "knot" things like a uni or sdj are slips. The more you set the hook or apply pressure the tighter it gets as do all knots. But a palomar the lines run across each other and it can dig in. That is probably why it is not recommended for flouro and people break off with it. People are going to tie what ever knot they want to tie. If a palomar is your thing and you have no issue keep at it. I just don't like it anymore. I can't say I have really had tons of failures or issues with it. I have just kinda graduated to better knots.
  19. This ^^ It's probably a push bite where they come up behind it. Chances are probably pretty slim the bait is flipping over or something. If you should be feeling you bait and now you don't all of a sudden. Or it feels different like heavy or mushy set the hook. More often then not when it feels like it's caught in the weeds or something it's a good fish. Their mouths are so big the bait never hits the side to give you that thump.
  20. I really don't know whatr advantage it has over any other knot. I don't think there is one. That it is easy to tie? I mean ya with braid it is but lots of those knots on a mono/copoly would of been questionable for most peopleanbd they probably burned the line. It is just a pita and I don't miss it. Getting annoyed tying it on a bait with trebles and it keeps catching on. Or it was a long bait like a jerkbait and you didn't leave a big enough loop and now your trying to pull it bigger without pulling the tag end out. No thanks.
  21. I use to be a palomar for everything guy but not anymore. Now it's a Uni or sdj knot. I know tons of people love a palomar but I think it's a junk knot and the longer you fish the weaker it becomes.
  22. Ya a good pair of side cutters will do it. I like a pair of linemans for heavy cutting as they just have more power. You can get a decent pair of cutters at a reasonable price but a pair of good linemans are not cheap. They can easily run $40-50 or more.
  23. They make a deps 175 and I think 250 in blueback herring.
  24. How heavy if baits are you talking about throwing? You kinda want to use the lightest line you can get away with. Even more so on a glide as bigger heavier line can dampen the action. I don't really throw anything that weighs over like a deps 250 but I use 20#. Anywhere from 12-20# for my swimbaits. When your talking about line like CXX in say 20# its not the same as normal line so it's a bad conparison. It has a thicker diameter and is way stronger then 20#.
  25. Chicken livers are probably the best for catfish. Well bluegill are actually better if you can catch a couple small ones and don't mind using them. Salt the chicken livers and let them sit in the sun a bit. It will keep them from flying off your hook and make them more appealing to the cats.
