  1. So you think that the bearings are poorly manufactured causing the noise? When i greased it up when i'd cast a lure that wasn't so heavy it wouldn't make a noise, where as before it would, or it would randomly stop for a few seconds. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. They're shielded (sealed) bearings all over the thing, theres no way to lube them up is there? What stumps me is its smooth as butter and the bearings were fine when i checked them. I never would have guessed them though, but i was going to lube them until i saw a shield!
  2. mine seems to do it anytime there's a heavier lure like a spinner bait or a fish on. Hmm.
  3. Try some type of a frog or a spinner bait. The frogs will allow you to get into the lilly pads and stuff while the spinnerbait will allow you to get down to the depths and get the fishes attention. That's what i've been using lately.
  4. I agree. I have a newer one that's also jointed, and my dad had an older jitterbug with felt or something on it, that one seemed to just work better. Mine skips across the water sometimes and just doesn't creat that bubble plop plop noise like the older ones.
  5. OOPS! It slipped my mind, i meant to put in the manufacturer. It's a Spidercast Tarantula 2200 spinning reel (i think was made by mitchell). My grandfather bought it as a combo at a local tackle shop, it didn't come in a box. I'll look and see if it's scraping, but i don't think so. I did a quick look, but maybe i'll have someone reel it in and i'll look. Like i said, it only does it under pressure. Thanks for your help, hope to hear some back from ya if you have any new ideas.
  6. Hey guys. When I reel in my new reel (used it the first time today) with a lure on it, it makes a scraping noise. I can describe it as the same noise a CD makes when in the CD player and it gets smooshed and grinds. I can't really feel it in the handle, but i can hear it. If i just sit there with the line in the line clip on the spool and reel it in it's as smooth as butter. So what i did was I tore it down (literally ever piece, even the bail wire!) cleaned it all up, regreased the entire reels contents, put it back together. I put a wiffle ball on the line and casted out. In the driveway it makes no noise, but if put in the grass under some tension it will make the noise, a bit fainter, but still make it. In the pool under constant pressure it makes it. Are they supposed to make noise when under pressure? It did it before with any weight on the line, now it only does it under pressure. Help! Edit: Two Vids. First ones it without any load on the line, second is with load on the line. Click the images to go to the vid.
  7. What kind of frog are you using first of all?
  8. Most of the time on pads, a bass cant distinguish a frog from a mouse from a piece of turd, so you just need to make it known that it's there. Bass will follow under the pads and once you get to the side of the bed, will most likely strike. I've had quite a few hits come from the pads themselves but they take in weeds and spit it back out.
  9. Try throwing it into and around lilly pads. When i throw mine i throw them as far into the pads as i can and slowly retrieve to the side. I give a pause in open pockets of water, or on the last pad right before it enters the water, then give a jerk and let it fall in, wait a few seconds and continue the retrieve. Throw it also on the side of the water and retrieve in. Give pauses, twitches or just reel in slow. Quick jerks and pauses work good too. Remember to wait a few seconds before setting the hook. What frog do you use? Spro frogs work well I guess, i use a plastic frog with curly legs which i can swim as a buzzbait as well as any depth of water. I've also used bass pro shops type frogs with the thin dangly legs and huge bodies, i get lots of hits on them. I guarantee you your fishing will pick up! The only bait i've used that was better than a frog, got hung up less, had more hits and more hook ups was a chartreuse mouse with a black tail and a huge treble coming out the back. I'll show you a pic of all 3 types here. Mouse Thin leg frog Curly leg frog Here are some links. The bass pro shops ones are the closest i could find to my baits, i bought the mouse and thin leg frog YEARS ago at walmart. Haven't seen em since. Good luck! http://www.caseplastics.com/case/product_info.php?cPath=27_69&products_id=398 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_29941____SearchResults http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_37014____SearchResults Here are the spro frogs i mentioned. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_73278____SearchResults A little tip i learned is drill a small hole in the back of the bait so that you can squeeze the water out because it will go in by the hooks in the bait and it's hard to get out otherwise, and bend the hooks out a bit to improve hookset.
  10. That looks extremely simple.
  11. That knot looks like it achieves a similar result to the clinch knot. Is it stronger/more slip resistant?
  12. Ok so I know these basic knots: -Arbor knot (use to tie line to spool) -Palomar Knot (mainly use) -Clinch knot & Improved (seems to slip a lot on the 10lb spiderwire mono i use, any idea why?) -Albright (used to tie 8 and 10lb together) -trilene knot (barely remember) -Rapala knot (use a lot) Are there any other useful knots i should learn that are easy to remember. I can snell a hook also, but i don't know if you consider that a knot.
  13. I actually have a mitchell avocet silver series spinning reel. What exactly do i check for?
  14. Is it possible to switch a spool on my new spidercast tarantula 2200 reel? I looked at the 2300 and the spool won't fit on my reel due to larger sizes of certain parts. I was wondering if i would be able to get a different spool from elsewhere. My current spool holds 100 yards of 6lb test (i use 8 with the same diameter as the 6 specified on the spool). I'd like to be able to spool up a bunch more line than 100 yards. Would it have to have the same width (where the line is spooled on) as my current spool so the reel doesn't over run on the top or bottom, or can it be wider? I'd think i'd need to keep the same width where the line sits but just have it deeper to hold more line. Am i wrong?
  15. Does anybody here own one of these rods? I haven't gotten to get mine out on the water, but i know not too much about graphite rods. I bought my first graphite rod this year and it ended up snapping under the strain of a huge pickerel (no lie) because the drag on my walmart reel (strapped for money this year) kept skipping. Is it as sensitive as other rod materials? It's a two piece. I also have a question about 2 piece rod design. Most of the rods i've owned have the top half sliding into the bottom half, but this one has the top half sliding over the bottom half, is there an advantage to this? Is this rod a decent rod? It's a medium light, i like mediums, but have kind of taken to a light rod i've been stuck with for the past month. It has cork grips and the same guide inserts that my shimano rod had, and i love them.
  16. I agree. I especially hate seeing yards and yards of discarded fishing line everywhere. Or worm containers, syrrofoam, beer cans, lure boxes, etc. I always pick up my line if its longer than an inch or two, those pieces usually fall and i can't find them.
  17. Yes, my accurist is 5 or so years old. Oops!
  18. I have an accurist PT, very similar. I love how smooth it is. The drag is awesome, the spool tension knob takes micro turns to adjust, which i like. It covers a wide range of line sizes and the flippin switch is pretty sweet. The side bayonet is also useful, as are the brake controls. I think if you got one you'd have no complaints.
  19. I'm guessing it isn't popular or nobody has any information lol. I was looking online and found it was made in 2002. That's all i've come up with so far.
  20. My girlfriend and i were fishing and she happened to hook a sunny just right and a nearby 4lb bass had liked how the fish was in distress so it came to investigate. Upon her bringing it in, the bass grabbed it and ran and when my girlfriend went to set the hook it tore out of the sunny's mouth and into the throat of the bass. Well, then her line snapped. So i go OH GREAT! in my head lol. Hooked her up with a large circle hook, hooked another sunny for her, setup the line and let her cast out. It took the bait, again, and when she set the hook she brought the bass in. I grabbed the hook with pliers and patiently worked it out as to not injure the fish. No blood or anything, and that fish still gets caught to this day. She's healthy as ever and put on some weight. I've also seen fish with half deteriorated hooks in their mouths, they do go away after a while. I'm sure it's fine.
  21. They make spinning rods in light, medium light, medium, medium heavy and i believe heavy, but i'm not sure on the last one. I have used light and medium, i have yet to try my medium light i just got the other day, but i've stuck 5 lb 22" largemouths with a 5'6" light shakespeare rod i found in the garage. It's all about hookset and your tackle. My quantum accurist pt is on a 6'6" medium action baitcasting rod. If you want to get into baitcasters, it's really not that hard to learn and it's so much smoother. You feel like you have a tiny winch in your hands and it's a more balanced feel. I use spinning stuff most of the time because i trek through the woods to a few spots and bringing a 1 piece 6'6" rod is just not on my list of fun, so i throw the spinning stuff in a backpack. How are you rigging your worms exactly? Pics? I use #10 spiderwire supermono xxx but i used to use #12 big game. I now have #8 spiderwire super mono xxx, i'll see how this stuff holds up. I think your line should be fine.
  22. Is it good? Its flawless n seems brand new.
  23. My grandfather bought me a rod and reel combo from a local tackle shop. it's a Spidercast Tarantula STSP2200. It has 8 ball bearings and will be spooled up with the spiderwire supermono xxx that he bought with it (same diameter as 6 lb test which is recommended for the reel). The rod is a 7' ML graphite megaforce by daiwa. it seems very nice, but i know nothing about these two products. It will be used for largemouth bass, trout and probably hook into a pickerel unintentionally. Do you think i have a good setup? It's smooth!
  24. That's what im hoping. Thanks for the compliments, i kind of has a vision in my head and just kept checking on symmetry as i went along, trying to keep it balanced. The clearcoating leaves a lot to be desired, and next time i'll seal it before painting. Hopefully it'll be a better one next time.
  25. I'm not famaliar with H2O, how much better are they than my previous selections?
