  1. my question wasn't on the spinning reel, I set that one. I was just stating the huge difference between the two drags. One won't let line out, the other resists but still spins a bit. I've only owned a diawa and quantum and don't remember the daiwas drag much so I have nothing to go off of.
  2. do you guys prefer magnetic or centrifugal? All I have is centrifugal so I don't know what magnetic feel like.
  3. if I crank the drag down on my quantum accurist pt, I am still able to pull line out, although it's harder, it can still be done, but there is resistance. Now, with my spinning reels if I crank them down, the line will snap before the drag lets line out. Why is this? Is something wrong with my reel?
  4. Ok. First question. My 2001 quantum accurist pt has a drilled out spool, but the holes don't go all the way through. Will this be suffecient for tying braid to, or do I need a monofiliment backing? Question number two deals with line more specifically. I just got #20 berkley fireline which has a diameter od 0.30mm. My reel is recommended to use #12, which I have in berkley big game and has a diameter of 0.36mm. The big game works fine, but I want to spool up braid at some point after I teach my brother and girlfriend on it, or spool it up and use it, but that's being debated in another thread. Will the 0.06mm make a huge difference as far as the line digging into itself on the spool and stuff? I don't have any money to buy new braid, so I'm asking if it's a go or no go, in which case I'll just spool up my spinning reel with it. I created this thread to be more specific and to keep on topic with my other one, hope it doesn't rub anyone the wrong way.
  5. My Berkley Big Game #12 i use on my baitcaster right now has an average diameter of 0.36mm and the #20 braid i just got it 0.30mm. Is that difference big enough to cause issues? I converted the big game over to mm because it's 0.014 inches, which equates to 0.36mm :-).
  6. Yeah, I was eventually planning on picking up some #55 braid, but my grandfather was kind and went out and bought some for me without me knowing lol. So i have what i have. So you guys think it will lay into itself and be a waste on my baitcaster?
  7. Does the diameter difference between the 20lb braid which is actually 8lb mono and the 12lb they suggested for my accurist make a difference in casting? I bought 12lb braid which i think is like 4lb mono when i first got it and kept having an issue with it snapping off and laying over itself. My spool has holes drilled in it, but not all the way through. Should that be good enough to hold it or do i need backing?
  8. I used to practice in the back yard with a plug or beat up lure with no hook. Figured i'd try and do the same for them if its easier.
  9. Ok, so if braid is easier to get the backlashes out of and doesnt get damaged or kinked from them and doesn't backlash as much (probably due to no memory) my next question is, should i bring them to the water or use it in the back yard? Will the line fray from repeated drags across the grass or should it be fine? I dont want to throw 20$ worth of braid away, but i also don't want them to get frustrated.
  10. I don't really mind the price lol. Just whichever one backlashes less so they don't give up as quick. Here's links to the line I have Berkley Fireline Fused Original 20lb http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/line/superline/fireline-fused-original Trilene Big Game 12lb http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/line/960
  11. I have 12lb mono and 20lb braid (8lb equiv). I want to teach a few people how to cast, but i dont know which to put on. Does braid backlash more if they dont thumb the spool, i'd think not since it lays flat. But i don't know. Which should i spool up with?
  12. How many of you use brakes on your baitcasters whether it's magnetic or centrifugal? I keep on at least 4 weights (quantum accurist. Freespool/4/6/8) which is the minimum before freespool. Am i just slow to use freespool or what?
  13. I use a Q-tip and simple green, then clean the outter part of the guide with paper towel & simple green (both with warm water mixed in)
  14. -Buzzbait -Spinnderbair -Hula Popper -Jitterbug -Black worms
  15. It's 33% or 1/3 the test (same things).
  16. So less is more? In my spinning reels i tend to overlube because i don't want to keep taking them apart, and i grease my bearings because i want everything to last, this will be the first reel using oil on. Do i just put the grease on the teeth?
  17. So, I know it suspends, but doesnt it float or sink when i cast it?
  18. Hey thanks! How many cleanings can you get out of it?
  19. Personally I wouldn't use either on Hybrid PT bearings. But with that said.... 8-) Both are/can be hazardous to your health even in small amounts. Use them wisely in a WELL ventilated area. In my shop I use Safety Kleen degreaser (none carcinogenic) which is filtered, I also use gloves and a mask for the deep cleaning. So no matter what you use be as safe as possible.. Keep both away from flame! Tight Lines! i thought you said to clean, then relube them lol. im confused!
  20. I know how to set the spool tension knob. By mint I meant that it wasn't too tight or loose. I will most certainly relube the bearings, does lighter fluid work as good as acetone?
  21. So, my girlfriend just went out and bought me a #8 husky jerk in silver while she was out at the store. Suprise! So, what's the best way to fish these and do you guys have success with them? I like rapala products but this is the first husky jerk i've had.
  22. I got my philwood grease when i worked in the bike shop. I used the blue loctite when i built wheels lol, it stays when you true!
  23. .RM. is most certainly a standup guy. I'd just like to put it out on the forum and thank you, really. It's a great help! I'll repay you somehow. Thanks again.
  24. I'm dying to tear into this reel lol. I use phil wood on all of my other reels and it smooths out over time, but stays where put. As far as the oil goes though, i don't know anything about quantums performance tuned bearings or anything, so i hope someone chimes in soon.
  25. And the oil? This is what I have on hand http://www.philwood.com/products/greaseoilhandcleaner/ (the first green squeeze tube) http://www.hoppes.com/products/lubricating_oil.html (second bottle from the left)
