  1. My dad has a couple of they're 80 dollar combos which he likes tremendously, but then again thats the best rod hes ever used. Personally i would rather buy a Falcon over any Gander Mountain rod ( Including the X Factor ). Also they are not very comfortable but thats all personal preference!
  2. Theyre both made under Pure Fishing so theyre might be, but not noticeable.
  3. Your welcome! if you have any more questions you can send me a PM! 8-)
  4. Have you tried the Falcon BuCoo's? I picked one up the other day with a carbonlite reel and man it is a Light combo! But i think the rod is very comparable to the carbonlite (never owned a carbonlite rod but have used one ).
  5. For your crankbait setup using the items you provided ~Rod: Cherrywood Graphite rod ~Reel: Shimano Callisto ~Line: Stren Original Clear in 10 # ~Why?: For the rod i chose the Cherrywood because in my experience it has a little more of an easy bend ( I Used to own a Berkley pole or two) which will help you from ripping the trebles out of the fishes lips. And for the reel i would suggest the Shimano Callisto. One because your with cranks your going to realy feel the rod vibrate and you wont notice if your reel isnt butter smooth, and also it has a lower gear ratio, so your hands and wrists will feel better after a long day of cranking. As for line i picked Stren Original Clear in 10lb because ten is just about right size for cranking and the stretch of the monofilament will also help not to rip the treble from your fishes mouth. Also you can use this setup successfully Next best possible setup; Worm And Small jig ~Rod: Shimano Convergence graphite rod ~Reel: Browning Citori ~Line: P-Line X-tra Strong Hi-Vis Fluorescent 10lb (If you can pick up some Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon (gold box) from walmart. Its only like $10 a filler spool ) ~Why?: I Picked your Convergence because i think it will be the more sensitive of your two rods, something greatly needed for this application. Also i say the Citori because i think it will be alot smoother than your Callisto, something i believe is important for worms and jigs beacause if its not smooth your rod can vibrate sometimes, causing you to misinterpret your rod. I Picked the P-Line Hi-Vis because when the bite is light, it helps to see your line, Say a fish just picks up your worm or jig, you only have little time to set the hook, and you probably wont feel the fish. So this way, you can actually see your line moving in an unnatural direction. I Hope i helped and didn't confuse you with my blabber! ;D
  6. BPS Carbonlite ! Its a great value for 120 (100 on sale). It performs like a PQ but only weighs like 6.7 ounces! I own one so i can personally vouch for it!
  7. I Would say get the Falcon BuCoo in 6'6" MH/F paired with a PQ or a carbonlite in 6.4:1. They are probably the best rods in the $100 price range and are SOO SOO light and sensitive. Nice balance to them also! Also they are made right here at home in the USA 8-)
  8. Wow! i was looking at the Curados but i couldn't quite squeeze my cash that far! lol
  9. Today at bass pro shops i went shopping for a new combo for my late birthday present. I went in with a clear head of knowledge, knowing which rods are tip heavy, balanced, over and under rated, and a grazing eye ( Im not loyal to any one brand like the shimano daiwa guys ) I walked in, took a quick glance over the rods and reels, and found a nice saleswoman to help me. There was this suspicious pro qualifier reel there, called the "Pro Qualifier Tournament" It was 20$ cheaper than the normal PQ. So i asked what the difference was, and honestly she replied " The color and the internals are different because you can feel the difference." Ahhhhhhhhh I found me a nice, honest sales-woman (unlike gander mountain who says everything is top of the line [Over priced too IMO] ) So we got to talkiing about the different reels and what we use them for and why etc etc. And she asked me if i was going to buy a pole today? I said i was and by that time i was decided on the Carbonlite RH 6.4:1 or the PQ RH 7.1:1. so we took the reels with us around the store looking at rods and balancing them blah blah blah. First we went to loomis and well, my budget didnt allow it. So next stop on the list, St.Croix! We got there and oogled at the avids for a while but,, it was $13 over all my money i brought. So next on the looky list was The BPS carbonlite rods, and Falcons (which i knew was a good brand but had no intention of buying) So we couldnt find the Carbonlites!!! I don't understand!? > Turns out every store on the East coast probably wont have any for like 2 weeks. So my options were limited then , I could get a St.Croix Mojo (which was terribly tip heavy ) A Vendetta (Which was terribly heavy and quite too flashy for me) So after that on the way to the Falcons we looked at Shimanos and Daiwas, none were what i was looking for. And on tho the Falcons, which i was guessing i wasnt going to get. So right now im feeling kind of bad i have to get a Mojo or a vendetta or some other rod. But the sales-woman said try this Falcon BuCoo. It was a 7' H/F rod. (I was looking for MH/F) And she said its more like a MH than an H so i slapped a carbonlite on there. Let me tell you it was like a dream! It was such a light combo, balanced nicely, ( The colors didnt blend very well but who cares?), And the thing was SOOO sensitive! each little tap on the pole felt like electricity running up my arm! I couldnt believe it ! I had gotten a pretty sick combo as another salesman pointed out to the others for only $220! Then tax was a *****. pushing it to like 235-ishh. So i bought a reel cover, rod sock, Fuji EZ keeper( because the hook keeper is really nothing special ) And a couple of spinnerbaits, Some Sufix Seige 17# Camo color, and an Ardent reel cleaning kit. Boy, let me tell you I was extremely happy with my purchase and the service at Bass Pro, Its so nice to talk to people who ACTUALLY KNOW about what they're selling, and will actually say that some of there product sucks. And I will be going out fishing and then too dinner with the nice sales-woman next week
  10. Me and my girlfriend love to fish together! (even though she outfishes me a lot) She basically told me on a date, "Will you take me fishing ?" cause she knows i go just about every time i have off. So step #1: Include her in it and take her with you when you both pick out her gear; (because women do love to shop) Let her pick out whatever pole or reel she wants, even if she only wants it because it looks cute Dont be serious about it; its about having a good time together, not winning the bassmaster classic (unless she's a serious angler) Let her get first casts at all the nice looking spots; because its no fun to sit at the back of the boat and not catch anything. There are rules though. Like... Her tackle is HER tackle only. MY tackle is OUR tackle She DOES NOT touch the fish, ever. And no areas where snakes might be. Sometimes i swear my lady knows more about fishing than i do. She may lose all your tackle, snap your stick and catch all the fish; but at the end of the day she's happy; you still love her; and you had a great time When you find a woman who enjoys fishing just as much if not for than you, keep her, they're hard to come by!
  11. haha soak your line in butter, oil, and some KVD line conditioner (p.s follow the instructions! )
  12. I use baitcasters exclusively for jigs mainly because i like to use heavy line and i feel like baitcasters have a lot more backbone to pull piggies out of the salad bar. That and spinning gear is quite uncomfortable for me especially when i need to work the jig slow. But if it works for you thats cool! I know my dad only uses spinning gear because its simple and he doesnt really require any coordination (atleast what he tells me )
  13. His Revo didn't look bad but that reel is plain ugly! And i think he could've found a better brand to make his reel, Seriously a Revo to Wright &McGill? In my mind thats like switching rods from a Loomis to an ugly stick (dont get me wrong uglies aren't bad i own a few )
  14. BPS makes a nice stick called the NITRO. Its on sale now for 99 regular price is 130. I'd reccomend the 7 H/F. Very nice guides and inserts also they hold up extremely well with braid ! Edit: If you are throwing lighter jigs like mentioned above you can downsize the power of the rod to maybe a MH or M
  15. I personally had a banana experience of my own this past week on vacation at the OBX. (Have you noticed no posts in a while?) We were fishing live bait at the Avon Pier and that morning fishing was a super dry spell. My dad then pulled out his breakfast from the cooler; a d*** banana. So i hit the banana over the railing and as soon as it hit the water..... clikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclik.... I had a 323 Pound Marlin on the end of my line (: Needless to say i landed him with me and 3 other people pulling the net up! 8-) I now am a banana believer
  16. I throw my 11' jon boat on top of my mom van all the time but depending on how much you got to spend you come across a good deal for boat and trailer ranging from $400 to $600. $27 for boat registration and title for anything under 16'. http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/boating/registration/ Ahh Thank you so much! I will be keeping my eyes peeled for any boat trailer combos My moms van has a V6 so she can pull it ! ;D
  17. Thanks guys! I really want to get a boat but what size would be able to fit on top of a mini van? My dad had to sell his truck, when the gas prices where extremely high. So i dont want to get like a 15 footer, because i cannot afford a trailer. And also how much is it to register a boat in the State of Virginia? ( I only have to register if i use a motor of any sorts ) So would registering be worth a trolling motor? :-?
  18. Welcome to the boards!!! ;D Yeah ive been reading the same, and ive been eating ramen noodles and laying tile floor so i can get one hopefully on the 12th!( My 15th Birthday!! ;D 8-))
  19. So guys basically Ive spent about 30 hours laying tile floor in a basement for my moms friend, and she's paying me $10 an hour! ;D Not bad by any means for a 14 year old kid! But me and my dad love to fish, but were really limited to where we can fish because we dont have a boat :-[ Basically we can only fish at 3-5 places, and were limited to only so much casting room. So my question is, should i buy a nice brand new combo? Or should i buy a used Jon Boat off craigslist, ebay etc. ??? :-? Edit: Almost everywhere near where we live has a boat launch!
  20. About the Mojo Bass, for its price, i've heard it is a good pole, but there are always people who will say a pole is crap unless its a Kistler or Loomis. Im not one of those ;D However alot of peopole say the sensitivity difference between the St.Croix Avid and Mojo is night and day, so if your budget allows it, go with the avid
  21. they do have excellent warranty service ;D ive taken back numerous reels back for new ones even after i knew its been a year ! (no oxtended warranty) ;D
  22. Another one i have is that in the car ride to the water i have to sing this song i made up, Its sort of a spoof to "Rock'n Me" by The Steve Miller Band. " I tossed out a (insert any lure here) maybe 50, 60 yards reeling slowly now finessin' pigs, Theen one big 'ol largie came out of the weeds and inhaled my lure deep down, Keep on a haulin' 'em piggies, keep on a haulin' 'em piggies " It doesnt sound good unless you can get the tune right
  23. Thanks for all the input!!! I really wanna get a PQ over the Revo STX mainly because of the price difference. But should i get the REVO instead? are all the differences going to make a large difference in performance? :-?
  24. I Knew It ! So basically the PQ and revo are comparable model?
  25. Similar except for the magnetic brakes position
