Techniqe specific rods (is it needed?)
Do you need technique specific rods? no. By all means you can do all your fishing with a MH/F pole. But certain people prefer different rods for different styles of fishing. Like for T-rigging I like a M/XF, while the next guy might like a MH/F. Its all personal preference dont go by what your rod says. But i wouldn't recommend doing like your dad and buying alot of poles in only 3 variations. If you have the money and the bait monkey on your back. Get a different rod for every technique. BTW, ugly sticks are a good cheap crankin rod 8-) Collin,

Kistler Z-bone
I'm thinking about getting my dad a custom built rod for his birthday. I saw the Z-bone builder on kistler's website and it looked really cool. Would it be a good idea to get a custom rod there? How are Kistler's blanks compared to Loomis? Thanks, Collin

Ardent reels
I hope so! I really like their flip and pitch reel, but i only flip-pitch with lefty reels, so i guess i'll have to wait.

Baitcaster: round or more aerodynamic shape?
I prefer low-profile for bass fishing. Anything heavier with larger lures i like round reels

Spinning vs. baitcasting....dont kill me
Or the BPS Carbonlite, Its the exact same thing as a Pro Qualifier except its like 3? ounces lighter and its a different color for only 20$ more. Plus it has Nice EVA Foam grips!! But as stated above, make sure to take your time when buying your first baitcaster. For your first reel, do like everybody else is saying and get a quality reel, its much more easier to learn with! I wouldn't really spend less than $80 MSRP on a baitcast reel, especially for your first one. It will make baitcasting enjoyable. When I was 12 i started out with a Wally World special for my first BC. Bad idea. I was backlashing every cast because the spool stunk, and all the knobs barely functioned. Also try for a bc with centrifugal AND magnetic brakes so you can figure out which one you prefer. (I find most guys are centrifugal fans though 8-)) And remember, make sure when picking out rods, to bring your reel for balancing. Its a must for me. For the $100 price range, i'll recommend a Falcon Bucoo, And ~$150, get a Powell Max or a Dobyns Saavy. For your first rod i'd recommend a MH/F or MH/XF

Where to buy tackle? Online, BPS, Cabela's, Walmart, Craigslist?
For when I need a pack of Gammies in a hurry: Wal*mart For when I need a bi-monthly stock up: Tackle Warehouse or BTD For right around Febuary, March when I spend $500+ on fishing tackle, I take the hour drive to BPS. 8-)

Shimano Castaic (ca-200)
My uncle gave me a Shimano Bantam reel but i dont know what kind it is, all the paint has worn off. It feels like its graphite. Can anybody tell me if that is the reel?

Hooking up on the first cast--Good or Bad?
Because when you catch a bass on the first cast, it never is a good day.

Tying new line to spool?
Alot of people do it and it is a pretty common way people tie to get rid of braid slip. Personally i just use the tape it comes with, or electrical tape, because I find it pretty hard to get the line through those little spool holes. But, yes, you can run it through the little holes.

What to ask for my birthday
Falcon Bucoo with a Carbonlite reel. I own 1 and it is a good combo for your money.

Hooking up on the first cast--Good or Bad?
At three different places i have caught a fish on my first cast, and I have never caught a fish at any of those bodies of water since. Me and my father are convinced that the 1st cast curse is real. Along with having good or bad joojoo on the way to the water.

Magnetic braking reels, need suggestions.
Mine is perfectly fine and i love the EVA grips btw. Although you live in Florida where im assuming things rust faster because of the saltwater.

How much do you spend?
I get a fishing allowance of 3 lures per week from Wally world instead of money. Lol

Did I severly hurt my line?
There's no nicks or abrasion though, my line is just in a really tight, small coil i cant seem to undoo, even with KVD's help.

Did I severly hurt my line?
Yesterday me and my Dad spent the whole day fishing, basically pond hopping. Each time we left a place i would take my lure off the line and reel in the line so i could put my neoprene cover on my Carbonlite reel. When we arrived at our last spot just after sunset i ran the line through the guides and tied on a Zoom horny toad weightless, which i've been using all day. So my first cast started nice. Went fine for about 20 feet, then would suddenly stop. Causing a large backlash, but not crimping or cutting any line ( GOTTA LOVE INVISX 8-)). This proccess repeated 7 more consecutive casts, inbetween each cast, checking for something wrong with the line or spool each time. And i knew it wasnt the brakes because I hadn't touched them all day and was doing fine. Then, on accident I glanced at my guides with the light from my dad's lighter and saw my second guide, I had gone through the guide, and then came around and went through the guide again, causing a loop around the guide. that was my problem. But from those 7 or so casts with the line wrapped on my guides, my line ( InvisX 15#) has very small tight, almost looking like spool memory, but way too small. (Penny sized curls.) So my question is, is my line still useable? or should i trash it and respool. Thanks in advance for all your advice, and sorry about me making a super extra big post. 8-)

Topwater line
Make sure to treat it with KVD line and lure because I find it to be non slick on the cast, thus creating friction with your thumb, limiting distance.

Need Advice on Rod/Reel Combo for Plastics
I think you will be very happy with that setup for plastics.

Topwater line
I have never used Lucky Craft line, But, I can suggest Sufix Seige 17# as it has performed well for me on topwater. Edit: I recommend 17# because the more surface of it on the water the better it floats

metered line?
To my knowledge, yes
