  1. And yet, through all this postulating by the Bush administration, I am still paying $2.45 per gallon here on Long Island.
  2. The retreiving ramp has been closed for repairs. It is being handled in a combined effort through Dept. of Traffic and the IRS. The project has been separated into 4 phases. Phase 1, completed last century, consisted of arriving at the site and having a cup of coffee. Phase 2, also known as the second phase, is a continuous project consisting of 5 guys standing looking at a hole and then getting a cup of coffee. Phase 3 had been started, but due to improper forms being signed, has been stopped so the crew can go get coffee. The last phase has no scheduled start date, but as soon as the new guy gets back with the coffee we'll look into it. Thank you for your patience and we expect the work to be finished by 2038. Why does anyone ever believe a sports figure when he says he's "retiring?"
  3. Though I haven't done it with a can, per se, I have seen it done with a pint glass (like a margarita) and then some people will add tobasco or another hot sauce. I've also seen people put jalapenos in the neck. There are names for these, but they escape me at the moment.
  4. I've always wondered about what makes a body of water a lake or a pond. The dictionary says a pond is smaller than a lake, but I know of ponds that are bigger than some named lakes. I've also heard it said that lakes can be fed by some other source, but I know of some ponds that are fed by streams and springs. Anyone have a DEFFINATIVE answer for this? Or is it just a problem with who names the water?
  5. Bah, AA is for quitters (No offense meant here, I just think that's a funny line...)
  6. Now that's a holiday I can believe in!
  7. Anyone catch the State of the Union address last night? I wonder if Dubya has been reading this thread...
  8. That bumper sticker should read "I don't brake for Yankees fans because they are always so far out ahead of me that the Sawks can't catch 'em with an F18"
  9. I have a small coin collection, both US and foreign, but there is no organization to it, just two big cups filled with coins. I have been collecting elephant jokes for about 15 years now, kinda weird, but I know quite a few and every time I hear a new one, it goes into the "collection" in my brain. I used to collect comics, but I haven't bought anything in years. Got 'em still, wrapped in mylar and cardboard. The best 2 are Punisher #1 first printing and the complete Spiderman "symbiot" series Marvel put out in the late 80s between 3 different titles. Finally, I used to have all the Ducks Unlimited decanters, many of which were VERY hard to find. Very valuble, that is until my mom bumped the shelf 4 were sitting on and them smashed to the floor. I kinda lost the impetus (and money) for this collection since.
  10. Well, look what happens when you don't pay attention to a thread for a while... First off, let me say that just because people don't live in a certain area doesn't mean that oil drilling won't affect the ecology is a load. The earth is a preciously balanced place, with symbiotic relationships throughout. Take for example the Brazilian rain forest. Not too many people living there, but we all should agree that over cutting of this area will jeopardize the world wide ecosystem. Its my belief that any wide spread industrialsation (sp?) WILL impact not only the immediate area, but will also have huge global impacts. Another example would be from a major volcanic eruption in, say, Indonesia. Its not anywhere near the good ole USA, but all that ash and debris in the atmosphere would certainly affect us in the long run. Not to be all namby-pamby, but perhaps some fore-thought is a good thing. That being said, I do think that if its done concientiously and ecologically, drilling US soil for oil is a good thing. Not only would it help us to be less reliant on other countries for oil, it would also offer many jobs fo Americans which puts money into the economy and hopefully works the trickle-down theory to its best means. For all of us quoting statistics on either side of the arguement, just from reading this thread it should be obvious that there is an abundance of "support" for both. Statistics are designed that way. What skews them is who's interest is in play when the statistics are put together. If the oil companies pay the statistician, they will get favorable numbers for their cause, and the opposite is certainly true. Environmentalists can hire people to make the numbers and results favor their views. Remember, statistics don't lie, statisticians lie. This has become a very good thread, and I'd like to see more debate on this subject. The one thing we all agree on is that gas prices currently suck.
  11. I've been using IE7 since yahoo gave it away a feww onths ago, and I've had zero problems with it. It took a little while to get used to, but I have to say its not a bad browser.
  12. Muddy, ya beat me to it...I knew there had to be a joke in here somewhere
  13. So, I'm watching the news a couple days ago, and I see a pundit discussing the price of oil, which is "down" (giggles) to $55 per barrel. The jist of his speech was that, though oil barrel prices are down, its going to take a couple months to get that cheaper oil into our gas tanks, so the gas prices will not come down until then. HUH? Did I get that right? Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but as soon as a barrel of oil goes up in price, the prices at the pumps reflect it THAT DAY, not months later when the more expensive oil gets to the stations. Anyone remember what happened to gas prices right after Katrina? That was instantaneous, not "months later" when the shortage would have been easier to absorb. They make it sound like gas is so cheap now, anyway, but do you really think $2.45 for gas is cheap? What total crap! I am so sick of oil companies lining their own pockets with hard earned American money and then having the gall to try and placate us with the idea that "Soon prices will come down." I don't have any exact figures, but I know that of all the companies in the US in the last few years, oil companies have posted the biggest gains, yet they all cry to the bank with pockets full of money. I'm fed up. I'm gonna buy a horse while grain is still cheap.
  14. I just read the story on the web this morning (skipping the usual Dubya diatribe) and found it to be very hopeful. The first thing that came to mind was a Law and Order episode (I love that show!) which dealt with exactly the same thing. What was most interesting about the show is that after "living" with his abductor for so long, he no longer knew who his family was, and indeed looked at his abductor as his father. I hope for the boys' familys' sake that truth doesn't follow fiction in this case.
  15. That was pretty neat! Anyone else catch themselves "leaning" into the turns?
  16. Guess I got lucky that night in Cleveland when these two largemouth and me were throwing back shots until 3 AM!
  17. This is going to be one of those VERY long threads, I think, and no 2 people are going to have all that similar faves. I've got MANY, but I've picked these 10 for a start: 1) The Story In Your Eyes- Moody Blues 2) Box of Rain - Grateful Dead 3) The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin 4) Freewill - Rush 5) God's Own Drunk - Jimmy Buffet 6) Ramblin' - Marshall Tucker Band 7) The Wind Cries Mary - Jimi Hendrix 8) Tear The Roof Off - Parliament 9) Green Eyed Lady - Sugarloaf 10) Things We Said Today - The Beatles Like I said, this is a completely incomplete list, I could probably list another 50 at least. Does give me a good start for burning a road disc, tho...
  18. I've had the steaks there, but I can't say I was all that impressed (thought I didn't have the filet). I'd much rather Peter Lugers As for favorite foods: Mom's Lasagna (She's pretty good for a non-Italian) Leg of Lamb (loaded with garlic and pepper. So easy and yet sooooo good) Pot Roast (always better the second day) Chicken Alaska (They make this at the restaurant where I bartend; don't know exactly what's in it except a great cream sauce and cheese over chicken breat and linguini) Grilled Swordfish (I only eat it once a year since its so scarce, but MMMMMMMMM) Reuben from Carnegie Deli (THE reuben to which all others must live up to) Now I'm hungry....
  19. Lol, I guess I should have looked at this post before I made mine...
  20. We've sure got a HUGE number of new members here, and rather than choke up the forums with a bunch of little "welcome" messages, I'm saying HELLO and WELCOME to all the new guys. You've found a great site for information and people to meet good people. Just when you think this site can't get better, it will, as can be seen by having Doug Hannon here. Have fun, ask questions, tell stories, and don't listen to a thing that Muddy Man says...hehe (Ok, so ya's caught me...I'm just being lazy with this post....)
  21. Although I pay attention to how different techniques work, and sometimes I'll simply bring 1 lure to see how I do with it, I am more often than not just happy to be out fishing.
  22. What a blessing! Congratulations!
  23. To All Bassresource.com Members, Although I feel like this year round, I thought I'd take the time this holiday season to put it into words. I feel truly blessed that I have found this place. The people here are about as good as they get in the world, and I mean that with no hyperbole. Though I have never actually met any of you in person, I consider all of you my friends, and would welcome you into my home any time, but I think we'd have a better time in a bass boat! May this season find you and your families safe, happy, and healthy, and of course full of the love of the spirit of Christmas. And for the New Year, may our best days of last year be our worst days of the next. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! Adam

This is why this forum works so well, nothing but good, kind-hearted, loving people. Makes me sad I'm not on the Fork trip this year, but I've already decided that I am in for next year!
  25. Ya know, I don't know what line you're using, but maybe think about going a little lighter in strength. I know this has been a hot topic of debate in the past, but I am a firm believer in the idea of line "spooking" fish away from striking. Also, I can saw with all confidence that I personally do better when I use Vanish vs. using XL.
