  1. Believe it or not, I have pulled bodies from the water. When flight 800 went down off the Long Island coast, I was on a commercial boat just putting out for a trip, but when the captain learned about what had just happened, we immediatle went to the crash site to help look for, well, anything. We hauled up a lot of parts, seats, luggage, and one body. To this day I am kinda freaked about pulling that body aboard. It wasn't really identifiable as a person, except for the general shape, but the rest was so badly burned it almost seemed fake. To this day, I will wake up some nights with that vision in my head and just not know what to think or where I am. I sincerely hope that no one ever has to go through that process.

Screw that, you're a jerk... Ah, who am I kidding, we all know you're a great guy, Muddy, and I wish you the same happiness for the holidays.
  3. Get some motion lights for the outside of the house, and like Unabasser said, get the security system fixed and subscribed.
  4. Yikes, what a mess! Weeks and weeks it will take to figure out all the damage, and then maybe longer, like when the spring thaw comes. I worked at a marina that has a "high and dry" system, where basically when you're not using your boat, rather than keep it in the water, a forklift picks it up and put it in a rack. Some years ago, in late March, we had a huge dumping of VERY wet snow. Needless to say, the whole rack came down under the strain of the weight and about 25 boats were completely destroyed. Those boats were a bit on the smaller side, no larger than 35 ft., but to see a big pile of boats like that boggles the imagination. I hope everyone there is able to come out of this ok and hopefully they and the marinas have plenty of insurance.
  5. Fuhgeddaboutit. Youse mooks what likes dem Mets is just jealous, see? Dere aint no way deys gonna put a statue of Bonds next to Da Bambino, and if dey does, I knows a couple guys that will make sure it don't stay up long.
  6. Yep, that's about the way it seems to be going. What a great thing this "new sensativity" has become.
  7. Like all above have said, WELCOME! Have fun, and don't be afraid to ask questions!
  8. Oh, c'mon, you're gonna dis Omar like that? You Mets fans would have nothing in the last couple years without Minaya running the team... Not that Muddy wouldn't be a good GM...
  9. Ick, what a mess! As a window cleaner, I know exactly how big a pain it is to remove dried egg from a surface, and the best I can tell you is LOTS of HOT, SOAPY water. Just soak it, wait a few minutes, scrub some, soak some more, scrub some more. As for the windsheild, you can use a razor blade to scrape it off, but deffinately do not use it on the paint. Maybe a plastic scraper, but even then I'd be worried about marring the finish. The only other thing I can tell you is to hold your nose, 'cuz its gonna stink...
  10. I HATE bull frogs. I don't know how many times I've had to pull a hook out of one of those slimy things. Not to mention hearing "Brrrraaappp Brrrraaappp" all night long in the summer. I suggest cutting off the legs and deep frying 'em. MMMMM MMMM
  11. Not to scare you or anything, but I was that sick about a month ago and still its lingering in my system. I have been on antibiotics, cough medicine, pain killers, you name it. What helped me the most, though, was taking some Thera-Flu. The warmth helps the throat, as well as the aspirin in it, plus there's a bit of a sleep aid in there, I think, or at least it almost always knocked me out within 45 mins. of drinking it. Hope you feel better, guys!
  12. Oh, man, does that bring back great memories! I haven't been skitching in years, but I always loved it! I don't know how many pairs of skis I ruined doing that, but I know it was fully worth it! Maybe next time you'll get some wetter snow to pack and make some nice ramps for jumping.
  13. Not a bad idea, here's some that I know... LOL - Laughing out Loud LMAO - Laughing my a$$ off probably - Probably ne1 - anyone These are more geared towards IMs (Instant Messages), but I have seen them in other places. Ne1 got ne more? probably Muddy will have some that will make us all ROFLMAO (Rolling on the floor LMAO)
  14. Being around boats and fishing all my life, I have heard of many different superstions and sayings regarding the things that happen while at sea. Here's some that I can remember: Never whistle in the wheel house; you're calling the wind up Never look back to the dock as you leave Never bring bananas on board, nor a woman, a dog, or a sinister minister Never say the word "knife" on board, say blade instead Dolphins riding with you on the way out is bad luck, when you come back, they're good luck I'm not sure where any of these came from, nor if there's any validity to them, but I do actually pay attention to them. Like I said, I'm superstitious, and if keeping my eyes to the bow as I leave means a better trip, well, who am I to risk a bad trip because I simply couldn't keep my eyes from the dock when I left? Anyone know of any others? Or maybe if you've heard of these, perhaps where they may have come from?
  15. I have never been one to take pets on a boat, especially since my cat wants nothing to do with being in a canoe (Trust me, I have the scars to prove it...), but I also don't think that dogs are a good idea on the water. There is an old fisherman's superstition that bringing a dog on a boat is bad luck. Is it true? I dunno, but being a superstitious guy, I'm not one to tempt fate Hmmm, makes me think about starting a new thread (Look for it in the "Everything Else" forum...)
  16. SO, my landlords recently bought a peddle boat (or paddle boat depending on how you look at it) and said I may use it in the lake whenever I want. I've used it fishing a few times, and I like it alot. Moving around is relatively easy, easier than a canoe, I can stand without fear of tipping, and there's enough room for two people to be very comfortable fishing as well. The thing is, I think it may make too much topwater noise to be conducive to fishing. I try to be quiet as a mouse when moving around, but that damned paddle-wheel still makes a big ole "flop-flop-flop" noise, which I think in turn spooks the fish. I can't say my productivity has been better, if anything, its been worse, but I also wonder if I'm on a bad streak since I'm not really catching much when I bank fish either. Anyone have any opinions or thoughts on these things? Ever use one for fishing? Have you noticed any differences between peddle boats and say a trolling motor? Just wondering... (BTW, the reason for the peddle boat is that the lake owner's association will not allow motors of any type on the lake... I learned that one the hard way when the DEC showed up after an "annonymous" tip...)
  17. Does this mean it wasn't the summer of love, but the summer of bad pasta? All these years I thought you hippies were on drugs and now the truth comes out! Not Owsley, but Chef Boyardee? Next thing you'll tell me is that you never ate the pasta, you just tried the sauce once, eh?
  18. That's some nice work, there. ;D
  19. I like that. That's the new "Bond" car isn't it???? I think they used an earlier model in "Die Another Day", but in the new movie, he gets the dB5.
  20. Well, when I was your age (*ahem*), I was all hopped up for a nice little Jaguar XJ12 or the XKE http://www.jaguar-e-type.net/ . Then, as a graduation gift, I got a "put-me-back-together" '66 Mustang Coupe, and I'm pretty well still hooked on the ponies. I have to say I really like the Stage 3 Rouch upgrade to the new Mustangs, very similar atmosphere to the old Shelby Mustang. Now that I'm thinking of it, I guess I'll make a list of my "wish" cars: 1: '67 Cherry Red Mustang convertable (I'll take the fast-back if I have to, though)http://www.mustangreview.com/1966gtvert.htm 2: '05 Lotus Elise (I got passed by one on the highway and just fell in love with that car)http://www.puresportscar.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=999 3: 427 Shelby Cobra (No brainer)http://www.conceptcarz.com/view/photo/1913,826,0,0/photo.aspx 4: '69 Buick Electra 225 convertable (Just a big 'ole pimp mobile)http://www.chooseyouritem.com/classics/files/97500/97960.html 5: '63 Aston Martin dB5 (C'mon, who doesn't want James Bond's car?)http://www.donrose.com/DB5.html
  21. Redline- I LOVE THAT SPYDER! What a beaut, I'd love to take that around the track for a few laps just feel the wind in my hair at 150 mph! (That is if it'll get up that much with the top down ) As for other forums, well, I'd have to say I've been on my fair share over the years, most relating to online gaming. My current fave, next to BassResource.com, is www.B-e-e-r.org . Great bunch of geeks with a penchant for drinking good beer. The thing I like best about these forums is that I now have friends all over the world from Portugal to England to Brazil to Australia. Some of these guys are as good as people get and I consider myself fortunate to be their friend, as well. I have been to PLENTY of forums that are an absolute waste of bandwidth, though, where every post ends up being some kind of flame war or shouting match. I don't hang around those very often. When it really comes down to it, the quality of a forum/bulletin board is directly dependant on the moderators and how much they are willing to put up with. During a rather long stint on one of these gaming forums, I was made moderator for a while, and let me tell you it is no easy task to keep up with everything that was going on. It is a testament to Glenn for establishing a great set of guidelines and to LBH, RW, and Five bass limit for keeping us all in line. No doubt this is the best run site of all that I've been involved in.
  22. I'm not so sure about Clemmens being on the juice. Though I don't personally care for him, it is widely known that Clemmens has one of the most brutal workout regimens of any ball player. Every article about him, especially where they interview other players regarding him, says he is constantly working out in one way or another to keep in shape. If I'm not mistaken, there was a small amount of buzz surrounding him and Pettite using 'roids when they were on the Yankees together ( I can't remember who came out with it, but it was a big thing this summer). Only a few days later, the allegation was withdrawn and no one has impugned him or his abilities since. I'm not saying he is above scrutiny, but I do doubt that he ever used any illegal susbatnces. And now, for the latest Yankees report: Moose has been signed for 2 years more on the hill. A great signing, as it gives the Yanks 2 starters locked up for the upcoming season. Johnson is still iffy due to yet another back surgery, and the others, well, maybe they'll be able to help AAA Columbus, but I don't think much will happen on a major league level. The winter meetings are coming up in a couple weeks, lets see how things shape up then...
  23. If you look closely, you can see the brown stain developing in his pants! Yikes!
  24. Reminds me of another of my father's pithy sayings: The are no atheists at sea.
  25. Well, I'll have to let you know when I'm up there, then. I can start going to my share house now, but I don't think I'll get up that way until the first week in Dec. seeing as there really isn't any snow yet. Once the white stuff gets going a little more and the temps drop some more, I'll probably be going up every other week until the share is over in mid-march. I'm looking to put in around 20-25 days on the slopes, so that'll mean around 10 trips up to VT. I'll certainly keep you in mind and mebbe we'll get together for a couple beers at the Pot Belly.
