Which of these 3 ~$80 casting rods would you buy and why?
unfortunately i missed out on the BTD sale... to late haha. However a quick google search can net you a $20 off a $100 purchase at gander mountain!!! Veritas if you are leaning that way are 99.99 so you will have to find something for about $1 to get the 20 off!

Cabelas
I've never ordered from cabelas.. however i am fed up with bps shipping. takes forever for me to get the things i order. usually takes close to 6 business days. I ordered 2 scopes from gander mountain this year. Searched online and found a 20 dollar off coupon and both scopes shipped the day i ordered them and were here in 2 business days. They have definately earned my business. P.S. think shipping was only 5 bucks both times ;D of course it was a special on shipping but hey im cheap like that!

Fluke
yeah the weighted swimbait hook works really well. seems to make the tail flutter as it goes down. if they are in say 15 foot or so of water and coming up hitting a fluke try the weighted hook. will get it closer to them faster and some of the lazy ones might pick it up to

dicks sporting goods clearance sale
some of the reels left alot to be desired there. but hey they are half off. i looked at a couple and was trying to talk them down to 75% off. but the big manager wasnt there to talk to. if you looking at a reel just look it over carefully the ones i was trying to talk them out of were missing the spool tension knob.

Bay Springs Febuary?
have fished there a couple times. i've never done much good in that lake. Everyone talks about a place called five fingers. might be able to recognize this on google earth if you look around. It has some deep spots in the lake. and a ton of coves you can run back in but be careful they tend to shallow up quickly in spots. some of the coves can be full of stumps. I think we have put in at mcferrin (something like that) and there is a nice drop off not far from the boat ramp there. when u leave the ramp and head out to the main channel there is like a small island kinda to the left. there are several ledges and drop offs there. drops from 3-5 to around 22 quickly. other than that im no help. remember i said i havent had much luck there!!!!

Abu Veritas- I'm impressed
i bought one at the end of the year last year. used it a couple times. i absolutely love mine and cant wait to fish with it this year. coming from the original ugly sticks. so sensitivity and weight are wonderful to me. Picking up on bites i would have never felt before. only complaint i might even think about having is setting the hook they seem to have a small pop at times. of course im a hard hook setter. trying to break that habit but its hard to break something you been doing for 15 years lol. Im going to be adding several more of these this year. i cant say enough about how impressed ive been with mine!

Here's your next fishing boat!?
i wanna see what happens when they hit a log floating at pickwick in that thing lol

Got the Veritas!!
yeah i was gunshy at first. my rod made a little weird noise first couple of hooksets. kinda had me a little scared.. but still holding strong!

Veritas
Braid is all I use. Mine is holding up just fine!

line wedge in opening of hook

Anybody fish the Alphabet locks on the Tenn-Tom?
yes sir. i live about a mile from C so i fish mainly C,D. i have fished a couple times from ironwood bluff but havent had much luck in that area. Have caught some nice fish from C. The grass has been terrible the past couple years. making it almost unfishable at times. but this has been a blessing cause the fish are starting to come back bigger and healthier. Ive had great luck fishing worms, lizards flukes jigs. just look for cover and have fun.

The sad saga of a Pickwick basser
yep wednesday was great for us. and the idea you had on rock banks and gravel beds is right on!

Line breaking!
ill mention a problem ive had with braid! may not be your problem. but i have gone through a spell of the eyelit on the hook not being completely closed. and the braid itself being small enough to slip through the gap! even if the gap is closed on the hook ive been fighting the fish and it somehow get the hook in the perfectly wrong spot and then it get off reel in no hook and knot still there. it's made me start tying a snell knot. so far it's worked for me! like i said this may not be your problem but it will cause a head scratcher when it does happen!

Abu Garcia Veritas

Baits For Fall
either white fluke or electric blue ( i believe) for me. smallies come from deep water to hit them!

using soft plastics! help
Are you talking about when you are say using a worm and you pull the rod tip up and then reel back down with say a slack line. The line that is winding back on the spool is loose when going back on the spool? Therefore being easier to dig on a hookset after a couple fish. If it's bad sometimes after a couple cast you might just throw it out and reel straight back in to get it tight on the spool. or maybe use your fingers in front of the reel to keep the line tight as it spools back on. If this isnt it then just disregard ;D

Mono or Braid??
I absolutely love braid. it's all i use on spinning and baitcasters. Cant beat it in my opinion. some people will only use fluoro or mono. Different strokes for different folks. One thing i keep in mind with braid is you dont have to have the grandpa hookset! Also remember to keep those hooks sharp!

Bass following jerkbait to boat
I have tried to let the bait seemingly die in the water in front of the chasing bass. Also seems like this never works. Quicker jerks to make it look like the bait is fleeing from the bass seems to get more bites for me!

Pickwick Fishing Report
i just seen this this morning. we had a great day on wednesday got to jp coleman around 550 and didnt leave till almost 8 lol. water temp was 72 on wednesday wind wasnt to bad just figure out where want to fish, go past it and let the wind push you along. think we caugh around 50 bass. caught 12 or so that were 18 inches and over biggest one was 21 inches smallies and largemouth mix. i've really got to get over to yellow creek and indian creek. I've never fished either one. We find it very hard to leave thegravel beds and the brown fish ;D. I did however get to see something ive never seen wednesday night. After the sun went down the shad/shiners whatever they were. They were about 2 inches long and jumping everywhere. It's all you could see if you looked down the channel. I expected the bass to be busting the top after them. But the bite completely died when this happened!
