Internet tough guys
Totally agree! You won't "win" a thing. At best you would make a real enemy of someone you sought out and confronted when you can just move on. At worst..Well You get my point. Being "old school" doesn't mean purposely walking into a situation where the circumstances could be something you're not prepared for. Block him or move on.. The world is a different place than when you went to school. Mike

Mike There's no reason why we couldn't have one down here. These aren't site organized like they used to be. I thought about bringing it up a few times to gauge interest but then forgot about it. Mike

Nail weights: tungsten or nails or screws?
As long as they fit and it's the weight you want it doesn't matter what they're made of. Cheap finishing nails work best for me. Mike

What is a good reel
My jerking combo is a Loomis 7' mh/f GLX MBR 843C with a Chronarch 100SF. For cranking I use a Phenix X11 composite rod with a JM Signature reel.

Remembering
I know what you guys mean and I feel for you. For me This is the best time of the year but also the saddest. Our family has many traditions including some that were started by my grandmother when she arrived on the boat in the 1800's. Too many to list here but the one that gets me the most is my Dad would always have the place of honor at the head of the table for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner. Nobody sat at the end but my Dad. As the oldest, when he passed it was assumed by everyone that would be my new place. Can't do it. On Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Papa's chair remains empty with a complete place setting. Mike

Traveling tips
3 months after retiring I bought a motorhome to do the same thing. Granted We're not sleeping in a car and don't have a boat but I have heard, seen, experienced and learned some things that may help you. 1) Personaly I would not stay at a county or state park if I was gonna sleep in my car. Too many transient's. I would look for private rv parks that have long and short term rates, but preferably ones that have permanent residences. Those folks tend to look out for each other even if they've not met. The downside is the cost obviously and one may be a little farther away but the security and peace of mind is worth it. 2) If it's not below freezing stay out of the car as long as you can before going to sleep. Get yourself a battery operated lantern and small table. Read a book, play on your phone etc. You want to be seen for as long as you can be. 3) Introduce yourself to your neighbors within a minimum of 3 sites around you. Again you want to be seen. 4) Install alarms on you rod lockers. 5) If you have a boat cover use it. Connect Christmas bells to your tie downs. 6) If your boat cover doesn't cover your motor also, get one. 7) Disconnect all electronics and put them in the car with you. Now, you may laugh and shake your head at some of these and that's ok, but these are what I've seen some people do who fish their way around the country. Have fun and stay safe Mike

Has the term "flipping" replaced the term "pitching"?
I use the same rod for pitching and for flipping. The only difference in equipment is that the reel is locked throughout the flipping process for every flip, whereas when pitching it isn't. Mike

Set the hook.....Fast!
All good comments and advise All I know is if I'm useing any type of bottom contact plastic and I feel or even think it was a hit, I'm swinging. It takes less than .08 sec to reel down and swing. If I miss her, I miss her. Mike
