  1. Silas It is no laughing matter what you folks are putting up with there. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm sure noone minimizes what life threatening situations you faced. As I said in my post, being smart about it and by taking proper precautions we still can face what we're up against and try to live as we once did. My best to you and your family. Mike
  2. Thanks Fellas I thought the rod over the line would be the consensus. It sure was a lively debate at the meeting Mike
  3. Black or june bug for stained. Watermelon or pumpkin for clear That's it Mike
  4. Eat a sirloin to rare and your arteries will shrink...Eat a salmon! Wearing your pants too tight will give you hemmoroids...Loosen your belt! Tie your shoes too tight and you'll get an in-grown toe nail...Wear flip flop's! Walk in the Everglades at sunset naked in knee deep stagnet water, past a Boa laying on shore, while watching a 14 ft gator swim between your legs...Buddy now you got a problem!! Be smart, take precautions if you're worried about it and GO FISHIN! Mike
  5. Guy's At one of my clubs last meeting, there was a discussion about crank bait rods vs line. One side feels that if you use mono on a fast action graphite rod, it would be the same as useing a med or moderate action rod, as most use. The logic being that mono [most in this club use Big Game] would stretch enough to get the job done, about the same as a crank specific med action composite or glass rod useing floro would flex, thus not requiring the added cost of another rod. We talk a lot about all pupose equipement on here, and I agree, an expierenced angler can make just about anything work for just about anything...But to me flipping/pitchin and crankin are the 2 that do require thier own set up to do it right. Maybe useing mono on a fast action action rod would work just fine, but personally I feel that my crank rod with floro gives me what I need. Thoughts? Mike
  6. Ditto... I've never owned and don't see the need for an extra fast action with a high quality rod. But that's just me.' Mike
  7. Agreed, Palomar will not slip if done right. Few suggestions based on what I do... 1] When you thread threw the eye of the hook be sure the lines are not crossed before you make the overhand. 2] When done and ready to cinch down pull the main line till snug after wetting, being sure there is not a small loop when done. 3] Pull tag end to cinch tight. Mike
  8. I fish tourn all year long, salt and fresh.. As a few already said..Here in Fla it's non stop no matter what you fish for, no matter where you live. Just grap a pole and go! Mike
  9. Thats it The key for me is once the cadence starts don't stop. Keep it going with slack in your line. Keep doing it, you'll get it. Mike
  10. I started useing the EWG Skip Gap hooks instead of the offset type. I like them much better... Just saying Mike

You're excately right Hootie. And at our age the simpler the better...You hear that kid's? :eyebrows:
  16. If you close the bail by turning the handle it will allmost allways cause the line to twist. By taking out most of the slack in the line before you start to work the bait, the line will spool straighter and tighter. Mike
  17. First, be SURE to close the bail by hand everytime, at the same time raising you rod tip up a little. Then before you start to retrieve, be sure there isn't an inordinate amount of slack before you start your retrieve. Mike
  18. Excellent Sam! Mike
