Favorite Fluoro
As I said many times, except for 2 techniques every combo I use is either Sniper or Shooter and have been fir years. I’ve tried almost every other premium brand sold but kept coming back to Sunline. Tatsu is the best overall flouro you can buy, but the overall difference between the two isn’t enough to make a change. Mike

Technique you used to hate but now grown to love
I’m more to the point where I want to hone my existing skill set than to experiment with baits, techniques and equipment to see if I like something better. For me, experience is the greatest teacher. There is so much to this that taking the time to experiment and go through the pits and fall and inconsistencies of starting over with something I hate to do or use is of no value. Mike

100% Fluorocarbon Question
“You get what you pay for” Its 100% true when talking about and comparing fluorocarbon fishing line. You got good advice, no need to repeat what’s already been said. Other than flipping/pitching in the heaviest of cover and frog’s anywhere, every combo I use has either Sniper or Shooter. Tatsu is the most expensive because it’s worth it. For me Sniper isn’t too far off. Mike

An Old Forgotten Rig
If memory serves that rig was popular down here around the time I first moved to Florida in ‘79. Don’t really remember using it but do remember it being used by some very successful fisherman I met along the way. When I first started I did the same I assume everyone does, learn what you can about your waters and everything that goes into that.. Seasonal patterns. weather adjustments, spawning cycles, different types of vegetation, equipment etc etc. It takes a while to figure out what you’re good at, then refine it to the point you don’t need to think. Just put the pieces of that moments puzzle together and go. That for me is the swim worm. Specifically the Magnum and standard size Zoom UV Speed Worm (only in June Bug) that I use for different conditions and presentations. And the Rage Cut R (only in Honey Candy) for a certain change of pace if warranted. A swim worm regardless of how you rig it can be the most effective bait in your box. Figure out the what, where and how to use it, then refine it for your waters. Mike

Anyone else get burned out on this site or social media stuff in general?

Anyone else get burned out on this site or social media stuff in general?
Personally I have no problem with any rules on here or the way the site is moderated. I agree sometimes it’s hard to find an interesting enough thread to contribute to but only because I’m not into deep, clear, or finesse anything. I just scan and move on until something interests me or I feel I may be helpful. It’s good that you’re back fishing again! Mike

What line for jigs and Texas rigs?
Fir me straight braid is a specialty line (punching and on top) not as an all purpose do everything line. That’s what fluorocarbon is for. Mike

A sturdier weighted underspin?
The Gambler Duz-It is not a jig head. It’s worth checking out if someone is looking for a hook with an attached blade that can be moved if desired Mike

Your Dad
Papa was a combat engineer in WW 2. Other than telling us that he built runways in the Azores and Aleutian Islands he would never talk about it. A few times when the subject came up at a family function or whatever, he always did the same thing…. He’d put his head down for a few seconds, got up and left the room. He bought a lot of land from the General Development Co from the back of a Life Magazine in 1952 for $10.00 down $10.00 month. After working for Ford Mo Co for 33 yrs he retired built a house on it and moved to Florida. He was a 1st generation Sicilian American who loved the city of Chicago, Mayor Daley, Sicilian cooking, Cubs and Bears. Hated the White Sox and didn’t understand hockey. My Pa was a very quiet and reserved man who never ever showed any emotion regardless of the circumstance. It was amazing how he never let anything bother him. I always thought he was afraid to do so. He was absolutely fiercely loyal to his family and our heritage. Papa was the strongest man I’ve ever known. Mike

A sturdier weighted underspin?
@ol'crickety Check out the Gambler Duz-It Swim Bait hook. I’ve been using them for years on most all swim baits and never had the problem your having. The spinners come in either gold or nickel and can be adjusted on the shank to fine tune the running depth you want. Mike

How to fight a bass - wear out vs horse 'em in?
When flipping/pitching into heavy cover or frogging there’s no playing around. I want her head up and out. If hooking up in moderate or open water it’s basically the same but concentrate more on keeping her down and not letting her break the surface, which will wear her out enough to minimize coming unbuttoned at the boat or shore. Keeping in mind I don’t use light line on a spinning rod, if I did it would be different. I get no joy just playing with them when which I’m sure they don’t either. The destination is more important than the journey. Mike

Cleanliness
I own a ‘65 GTO National show winner that I’ve had for 32 yrs. It never goes out in the rain or even the threat of rain. I keep it covered in the garage. It hasn’t had soap and water on it since I had it restored as I use a specific wipe and dry product to keep dust, pollution etc off the paint. Is it excessive? Of course Do most people understand it? Nope But I don’t care, she’s worth more now than my first house! ? Mike
