  1. Ill buy what I take a liking to at the moment or find a great deal on. No brand pays me to use their product so no loyalties to any of them. I have a preference for Japan made reels though due to never having an issue quality wise with one. I have had numerous non-Japan made reels that have let me down with durability issues.
  2. For instance 50mg7 7:1 28ipt vs Ch CI4 7.6:1 32ipt and retrieving 3/4oz kvd spinnerbait. Spec wise lower gear and ipt the 50mg7 should do better but it lags and nearly a chore to reel the lure in. The CI4 xship handles the weight drag of the blades much easier. Plus with fighting a fish CI4 reels them in more effortlessly making, size for size, fish feel smaller.
  3. I was editing my post as you replied but I do use for bottom contact as well. Ikas mostly but running senko along bottom and jigs as well. Now with 3 rods I cover top to bottom and the bottom contact with this rod is what I like about it. I rarely throw cranks. The casting with ned?? Well with casts recommended being short 35' and the SV105 with 10# braid being able to cast the weight very well and easily, actually nearly 3x farther, just another fun way to fish it. My aim/accuracy/control with casting is better than with spinning. Plenty of people finesse fish with bc reels. A 1/20 or 1/10shroom and 2.75" TRD weighs .212-.283oz so in the 1/4oz range. My Smoke rod will cast 1/8 better than my ML/XF LTB rod.
  4. Range from 1/8 spinnerbaits to 3/4 lipless cranks, but 3/4 is its limit. With my 50mg7 mostly Ikas set-up. The SV105 is going to use 3.8" Swing Impact Fats with 1/8-1/4 jigheads. Currently the SV105/Smoke combo Im tossing ned rig with braid. The CI4 is the multi purpose reel that I will toss most everything else 3/8 jigs senko 1/8-1/2 spinnerbaits even crankbaits that run 1'-8' 1.0 1.5, arashi 3,5,7. Frogs is the point at which it starts to falter power wise but baby/smaller size frogs it can handle.
  5. My favorite combo Core50mg7($360) on a Quantum Smoke 7' M/F rod($100-$130). The Smoke rod is very light weight 3.4oz yet balances very well with the lightweight 5.5oz reel. The rod has very good sensitivity as well and power to boot for a Medium power rod. I havent found all these features combined (length, power, weight, price, sensitivity, balance) in another rod, yet. I just picked-up my 3rd 7' M/F Smoke rod today. Reels using the 50mg7, CI4 and SV105 on them. I have Avid, LTB, Elite, Black Cumara, Helios rods to compare but the lower priced Smoke impresses me the most.
  6. If you have a Gander Mountain that has them in stock you can get $30 off til the 19th with reel/rod trade. Get your hands on one if possible. I was going to get the 893 e6x but with a CI4 on it was rather tip heavy, balance was about 3" in front of the reel.
  7. No right or wrong on this really. Each person has different values they place on products. Ive used lesser priced reels that have absolutely impressed me and been disappointed in higher priced reels, and too the opposite. Same with rods. Basically a person should get in where they fit in.
  8. If you can swing the extra $$$ I say the SV105 over the Tat. You can get the SV105 closer to $200. lighter, better form, Made in Japan, casts lighter baits better. Takes a bit of use to start noticing the performance but its casting my ikas pretty far now. The weight saving and form is big enough difference to me for the extra price. I'd say it would compliment your Tat well.
  9. Yep the best purpose for mono is to use it as backing for good lines.
  10. The man himself said to use braid for the ned rig so change to 10# braid and use your Fluoro for a leader and line twist worries are mostly unlikely.
  11. Some people feel its unethical to sport fish period. Should only fish to feed ones self. No need to fish at all, be vegan. Cant please every person so please yourself. Ill buy my license and fish legally and fish where /when for whatever in a legal means.
  12. washed up has been hack
  13. But what technique are you mastering in that 10,000hrs like frogs 10000hrs to master senko 10000hrs to master spinnerbaits or whatever. Each one to be a master needs 10,000hrs.
  14. Ive rigged my Croix LTB6'9" ML/XF casting rod with Daiwa SV105 10# PPS8S with the ned to see how that combo will perform. And have a Cumara 7'6" ML/MF casting to try afterwards.
  15. The best use for mono is backing for braid. Most prominent quality lacking with mono is sensitivity and my pov of this is during the retrieve. The fight you get with mono is lacking the feel of what the fish is doing. With mono the fight is dull and subdued. With braid the turns twists wiggles diving rising rolling every little movement the fish does is greatly enhanced. This aspect is what makes using braid so much more enjoyable to me. Not to mention the better line management and ease of use working presentations through weeds.
  16. Spinning--St Croix Legend Elite 7'6" M/F 8#nanofil, rigged 1/8oz jighead Casting--Quantum Smoke 7' M/F 12# FC Sniper, rigged 1/4oz jighead Casting--Okuma Helios 7' MH/F 30# Smackdown, rigged 3/8oz jighead
  17. So has mine for over a year now, I dread going in and fixing it
  18. for spinning 8' ML/Mod StCroix Avid with 6-8# nanofil
  19. yeah cause it catches fish so easily on its own, no need to go big on set-up
  20. Tossing out ideas Smaller 3" ikas?http://www.overstockbait.com/Gary-Yamamoto-3-Ika-10-count-p/92-10.htm For similar smaller presentation there are 3" Damiki Hydras Here a size comparison dont have the 3" ika to show. A person could take the skirt off the ika and put it on the hydra body or buy ika skirts to put on. regular 4" ika - 3" hydra- tiny ika
  21. SENKO 5" 10.323g 0.36413oz KEITECH SALTY CORE STICK 5" 11.468g 0.40452oz Keitech stick a little heavier if you want to give those a try.
  22. scratched the ones Im not that guy never been, left the ones I am. I color my green braid with green marker at times and brown with brown. I beat the banks over and over on the same small lake day after day year after year because its very close to me and so go there most often. I do get knowledge though and have experienced the increase in average size of the bass over the years.
  23. Well when you turn a pin brake on/off the pin is still there its not taken away. The pin just wont move outward. The weight is still there to keep balance. Ill run one pin on with any of my casters that use them see/feel no ill effect. I will say when/if I run multiple pins I equalize the spacing 2-opposite and 3 in Y pattern.
  24. If the Zolo doesnt workout here is another lightweight. I have an Okuma Helios MH/F rated to 1oz and weighs 3.5oz and balances well with core50mg7. Balance point maybe an inch from reel. They can be found for $140 so a bit less than MSRP.
