  1. I was really hoping to see how the got it through the hole. I caught an 8lb channel cat through the ice several years ago and we had to chop the hole bigger with a hatchet just to get that through the hole, no way that big head was fitting through the holes they had drilled.
  2. Cold water months when baitfish are really schooled up have been the best times for me, like October-March.
  3. What you have done there is create a jigworm, basically the predecessor to what we now call a shakyhead It's just a worm or other plastic ran onto the hook with the point exposed. It's very effective but tends to snag a lot so it's best fished around weed lines, gravel, sand, mud, or small rock.
  4. Bone, chrome, and clear are the only colors I bother carrying. If they're eating a Super Spook Jr at all, one of those colors will catch them.
  5. I've used Megastrike to keep the claws on the Flappin Crawz from sticking together, so I know it will work with that at least. JJ's is a no-no for sure though. They make dyes for Elaztech baits though.
  6. Were any of the craws you found recently molted (softshell)? They'll often be a different color after molting and bass love softshell craws. The smaller craws are likely much easier for bass to handle but if the bigger craws are more abundant they may be more used to eating them. It's worth trying both for sure.
  7. Skitter walk in the larger size it appears to me like, probably weighs close to an ounce doesn't it? I have one of the large ones in silver mullet, thing is loud and it casts a mile. Only reason I keep it in my box is for jump fishing. It kind of looks like the golden mullet color but not as reflective. Possibly a color that is no longer made or something.
  8. Back on topic , only pair of smallies I have a picture of. Wife caught the bigger one, I unhooked it and was measuring him and getting ready to take her picture with it when she hooked up with the second one
  9. Getting to fish a new lake is part of the fun I'd think I've fished all of them at least once so any questions you or anyone has about them I'll do my best to answer from my first hand experience.
  10. I catch more than my share of drum every year, it was nice to not be the disappointed on this time. That Bull Shad is a 6" slow sink.
  11. Bass or what were they? What's the water temp?
  12. Welcome to the forum from another KS member Here's a couple links you may want to check out http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/41660-for-us-kc-area-guys-fishing-reports/page-181 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/129650-kc-spring-get-together/
  13. I bought a Save Phace at the Classic last year, don't know how I lived without one for winter fishing. Even though my little tin boat only gets around 30mph, when it's in the teens it's really painful to run too far without it, even worse if I get any spray over the side like I often do. Really nice for night fishing too if there's lots of bugs out, you think rain hurts, take a junebug to the face while you're running
  14. 2 of the pictures actually One is a hoodie I guess from 2 years ago when they won the conference. She graduated from Pitt, as did her little brother, and her little sister is about to graduate from there this May. I don't know if I would have gotten anything done if I attended Pitt, not with all those strip pits down there to fish!
  15. It'll all be worth it after the little one gets here, pretty awesome experience. Well depending on how many people show up and if Jon's family allows us stay at their cabins, there may be room for them to stay there. Other than that, the city of Grove is the best option of places to stay. There's quite a few options close by that are reasonably priced. There's also Honey Creek State Park that has camping for a cheaper option.
  16. Those tournaments won't seem as important when you have kids, I can almost guarantee that. I'm use to going at least 3 times a week until our little guy was born just over a month ago, I've been once in the pass month and it hasn't bothered me at all like it would have before he was here, priorities change big time
  17. Going to get this started so all our discussion about it doesn't get lost in the other thread. First is the proposed 1 day deal in March. I think we have 2 real options, 1 Melvern and 2 Lake Shawnee. I don't think that Wyco is a real option because of the price of the boat/fish/trout permit. I think if we do Melvern it should be the end of March, if we do Shawnee it should be more mid-March so there will be more fish still in the lake. I think at Melvern you obviously have the potential to have another cold spring like last year where it could be really tough at Melvern. Shawnee as long as it's thawed the trout should be biting. I'm thinking we just take a vote again like last year for anyone wanting to be there, either post up your vote or send me a PM so I can tally them up. I'm going to put mine in for Lake Shawnee, maybe like March 15th? Melvern-4 Shawnee-5 Second is the 2 day deal. My thinking with this is for us to go somewhere that is too far to do a single day trip. I think we should go somewhere with camping or hotels so everyone has the option to stay where they'd like. Like always, the main goal is for everyone to have fun and catch fish, which I think should be taking into consideration into where we go. I think having some stuff other than fishing to do would be a plus for anyone wanting to bring the family along as well. I think the 31st of May/1st of June was the weekend that was working the best for everyone. Again, like last year I think we should vote on it so everyone gets a say in it. I'll make a list of some lakes and if anyone wants to add any to the list just let me know. I'm going to put mine in for Grand Lake Grand-6 1/2 Table Rock-1 1/2 Stockton LOZ Bull Shoals Melvern Milford Beaver Hazel Creek Mozingo Wilson
  18. The backing isn't just about not using as much line to fill the spool. Braid is very slick and if you fill the entire spool with braid and put a lot of strain on the line the entire spool of line may not grip the spool and spin. You can do the same thing with a wrap of electric tape also.
  19. For me the C-rig is for covering water and the drop shot is for fishing very specific pieces of cover or structure.
  20. I have tons of patience teaching people and kids to fish. I used to teach some kids fishing classes at a private lake and had a lot of fun doing it. I even had a 9 year old girl who'd never fished a lure in her life catch a 4 1/2 pound bass while I was teaching them how to fish a wacky rig, that was pretty cool.
  21. On the rare occasion we have the day off together my wife often is my fishing buddy
  22. 2 bags of trick worms (killer blue and muscadine), bag of baby brush hogs (killer blue), 2 war eagle spinnerbaits (coleslaw and spot remover), 2 warthogs, 2 stx jerkbaits, 1 bag of magnum finesse worms (gp/blue) and a spinbait 80. Also got a Terminator Thumper spinnerbait out of the free grab bag
  23. Anything really but some of my favorites are beaver style baits, brush hogs, and magnum finesse worms.
  24. I was impressed. I managed to only spend $60 though Not a huge warehouse but tons of stuff no other stores around here carry and prices are very competitive.
  25. P line C21. I use it for moving baits when it doesn't matter if my line stretches. It's very strong, abrasion resistant, and cheap.
