For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
I was lonely out there Monday, thankfully the fish were keeping me company.

Medium moderate crankbait rod for poppers?
Small poppers I fish on a 6' 2" M/XF Avid. I can make them do things with that rod that no other rod I've found can make them do. The 75 plopper could be fished on the cranking rod, but I like to fish mine on a 7' M/F rod and braid. No hookset required, I just crank into them and let the hooks dig.

Poor Rod Packaging
Cardboard TUBES are almost as safe as PVC. Cardboard BOXES are not. I've had a few I bought from online outdoor retailers that were primarily golf/hiking/biking/running/ect stores that had some fishing gear for really cheap. They shipped in long cardboard boxes and my stomach always turns when I see that because I know the odds of them being undamaged are not good.

Wire Tie Over Jig / Spinnerbait Skirt Band ?
I also just slide the band down a bit and tie in the place where band was at.

black spinnerbaits
Black and copper spinnerbaits have kind of a cult following here. I've caught some big ones in the spring slow rolling a single Colorado bladed black spinnerbait during the day.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Rapidly dropping temps, rapidly building winds, off and on drizzle, beautiful day on the water Monday ? One other boat at the ramp when I showed up. He told me to go ahead, he was going to wait for a minute. I launched, he waited a few more minutes and then just left? Only other boat I saw the 6+ hours I was on the water. With the wind and clouds, seemed like a moving bait bite would be going, but that wasn't what I found for the most part. I got 2 on a squarebill, 1 on a jerkbait, the rest were on a Ned or shakyhead. The most important fish of the day was on the squarebill though. Built like a brick, barely longer than my 18" board and 5lbs right on the button. Took a while to dial in the slow moving bite, and it was painfully difficult to do in 20+mph winds, but I was really working them over for a while.

Spotted bass or largemouth??
Same, the tooth patch thing isn't a clear identifier IMO.

Hoping I can get back on the water in full force come spring
Take care of yourself, the fish will be there when you get better.

Cold water speed cranking
I was fishing a squarebill pretty fast Monday in 50* water. Only got 2 bites on it, but it's winter time and when 1 of them looks like this, I'm okay with it.

Why is this true about wind and moving baits?
Wind was calm in the morning yesterday. Only bite I got was a 5 pounder on a squarebill. Once the wind started howling 20+mph they were chewing a Ned and shakyhead. Usually the wind helps a moving bait bite but they wouldn't touch it yesterday. Instead of forcing it, I gave them what they wanted and had a good day of catching.

Flipping hook vs. EWG for texas rigs
Straight shank for braid, EWG for fluoro and copolymer.

Replacing hooks on suspending jerkbaits
Get a digital kitchen scale and weight the hooks to get the best results. I swap most of mine to the same size Owner ST-36 trebles and they'll stay close to where they were suspending before.

Looking for a baitcaster suggestion
How old is it? Might be worth contacting Diawa directly if it's been taken care of and happened during normal use. That's not something that should be happening.

Zoom Zlinky- New Stickbait Contender?
They had the Z nail, which was kind of a tapered Senko/stick worm. It was a really good bait but they quit making it for whatever reason.

Bent split rings, broken hooks, and broken dreams
It stinks after spending all the money on them, but swimbaits are no different than almost every other bait I buy. As soon as they come out of the package, the stock hooks come off and upgraded hooks go on. I'll echo A-Jay on the hyperwire split rings and Owner hooks. The trick with glide baits is getting the right weight to keep the proper balance to not effect the glide of the bait. A digital kitchen scale can be a big help.

Come On Man !!!
C'mon man! If I'm paying premium for tungsten sinkers, is it too much to ask for them to have the weights printed/stamped on them? I've seen a few with them, but not many. Honestly would be nice to see on lead sinkers and baits as well.

Black Friday Order Possiblely Stolen
That "one piece" part is the big key factor. I'd never had a rod come in broken, then something like 3 of the last 7 have been DOA.

Black Friday Order Possiblely Stolen
We get emails at work all the time asking for help identifying porch pirates from pictures taken off Ring cameras and other doorbell cams. If my boys were young enough to still be in diapers, I'd be putting out boxes with dirty diapers on the porch for anyone that wanted to steal some packages. It's alive! Apparently I just needed to complain about them not moving for so long ? Looking for a baitcaster suggestion
Which bearing? A spool bearing is super easy to replace and is a DIY job that can be done for 1/3 that price. I just replaced both spool bearings in an abused 100B Chronarch for about $25 with nice ceramic bearings.

Another glide bait build
That 6-7 inch range seems to be the sweet spot for glide bait sizes that bass like to eat here. I think since they mainly eat gizzard shad and those are the best size as far as easiest to handle while being the biggest gain.

My Roid Rat that I be designed and build.
Great looking bait! I love throwing rats, fish hit them harder than anything else imo.
